iPhone apps

Okay I finally entered the year 2010 and got a "smartphone"...... upgraded my AT& T to an iPhone 4....

I've browsed alot on iTunes etc an found some cool apps....

So....for those guys out there with iPhones....what are the best apps you've found out there? Things that are cool but also practical...stuff you actually use...

Any cool car related apps?

Ask your local teenager... they know everything about this stuff!! LOL

Seriously... I love my iPhone... but I'm not an "add apps" kinda guy... I've found the stuff included is about all I need. Weather - stocks - alarm clock (you know - for those O'dark thirty hit the road wake ups!) - Euro clock - email - maps...

:woot:

T_Raven 07-03-2010 09:04 PM

My sudoku app comes in handy when I'm on the can

I've been wondering if there are any good car related ones too. Has anyone used this?

Pizza spot. It locates all the Pizza places near you.

Shazam. If you hear music on the radio that you like but don't know who it is, it listens tells you who it is and what album and asks if you want to buy it from I-tunes.

Lightsaber for you Star Wars geeks that need a handy weapon.

Charley --- Open up the Maps app -- in Search -- just type "pizza" -- or Mexican food - or whatever else you're looking for... it drops pins at all the locations around you. Touch the pins -- it gives you phone number - address - website if one exists... and "directions to here"...

No need for a special app for that...

Jay Hilliard 07-04-2010 09:59 AM

Here are just a few I like and are free......iheart radio, sportacular, fandango, ebay, camzoom, ifirstaid, facebook and a banking app.

BlackenedRR 07-05-2010 07:30 AM

Hulu Plus, iMovie, Audi's Truth in 24, Flick Fishing (this is a MUST HAVE), Mixologist, Kitty Kannon and Paper Toss. I've looked into some of the vehicle performance apps, doesn't look like they're getting the best reviews just yet.

Stuart Adams 07-05-2010 01:15 PM

E Bay, Scorecenter is great, Around me is a must.

uk68327 07-05-2010 01:27 PM

As mentioned before, Shazam is an awesome app :) There's a starbucks app (if that's you favourite coffee shop - sure there are others too). co-pilot, or Tom Tom satnav software. Aroundme is another good app, if you are looking for any random places around you or something specific.

I also use XEcurrency - to keep my eye on US$ / UK£ exchange rates ;)

Another app that I use for a few other forums is called Tapatalk.......would be good if Lateral-g signed up for that - calling all forum admins

Pandora, Google Earth, Angry Birds, Dynolicious...

Theresa 07-06-2010 08:29 AM

Angry Birds is a fun time waster

Words with Friends (scrabble with friends or strangers. I often kick Bill Duty's ass at this game  )

Card Star (get rid of the key ring barcode cards for stores & enter them all in one place)

Red Laser (scan a product at a store & you'll see if there's a better price at another store)

Unblock Me (game)

Around Me (great for traveling. It picks up your location & gives you a list of local restaurants, stores, ATM machines, shows, etc)

What to expect when you're expecting (LOL, well, maybe not that one for you)

TV.com App (can watch your favorite TV shows)

Shazam

Word Warp (game)

Open Table

Dragon Dictation (you can speak into your phone & it converts your words into text instead of having to type it all out)

Nick.V70 07-06-2010 08:12 PM

Already some great aps listed but here is one I really like.

CraigsPro+ Very easy to use and easy to find what you are looking for in many area's around you with out going to each city to search.

Rhino 07-09-2010 10:37 PM

Shazam - Listens to music playing and determines Artist, Album, and Title of song.
Tweetdeck & Facebook - Social Networking
myWireless - ATT application for account management (# of minutes used, Data used, ect...)
UrbanSpoon & Yelp - Finding awesome local restaurants no matter where you're at.
Kindle App - Instant access to any books you've downloaded to your Amazon Kindle.
Oakley Surf Report - Worldwide surf conditions. (Don't get to use this nearly as much as I'd like ;) )

The absolute most used 3rd party application on my phone is "Sound Level." Over the years I've experienced a little noise induced hearing loss and a moderate level of Tinnitus. (Caused by loud vehicles, high powered stereos, and guns.) Due to that I'm very sensitive to insuring I'm within safe dB levels. Any time I'm in a situation where I'm not sure of the sound level, I break out the phone to insure it's safe.

Theresa 07-29-2010 12:24 PM

Here's another very cool app that I just found out about - (good for Droid and iPhones)

It's called - Knocking Live Video

If you download the app (it's free) then create an account, you can add your friends (who also have to download the app) and you can stream LIVE video to their phone from anywhere in the world. They can see whatever you point your phone towards.

If you were somewhere and thought "I wish so-and-so could see this" - they can see it - LIVE - with you.

It's really cool.

(I think it's great for things like - - if a child is lost, they can stream their surroundings to a family member to find them; or maybe share the great concert seats you got with a friend, or stream live video of a newborn baby to family or something)

There is a neat app called IGasup, which will tell you where the closest gasoline is and the prices, BUT the main reason I got it is because you can tell it to show you only where Diesel is available.

GregWeld 08-31-2010 05:24 PM

Just found this DYNO app for the iPhone!

Here's a link to it:

I always have been and always will be with Verizon. I just got a droid 2 and love it and as far as I know you can get most of the same apps. I have an itouch though so I use it for apps and the phone for calls and checking emails and stuff.

clill 09-01-2010 07:36 AM

OBD 2 diagnostic scan tool...The app is free but you need to buy the cable on Ebay for 99.00. Cheaper than comparable scan tools. Turns your I-Phone into a scan tool.

Same here brother!! I hear they have something in the works with that. But then again, they have been talking about this for a while now. But, if Verizon ever becomes an option for service, I'm all over it.

The iTouch is killer. I bought one earlier this summer and I LOVE it. WiFi enabled and it runs pretty quick. The mp3 player is awesome.

I used the GoLink OBDII on Sunday to clear a code on the 55 Post / LS2 car I built. It was showing #1 cylinder injector issue... so unplugged that connector - reconnected -- cleared the code with a one button push... BINGO! Done no more code.

The "interface" on this thing is pretty dang good! You can scroll down and see all the functions - and get details on each function. TPS - ECT - Exhaust temps - everything.

Since I was having a "terminator party" (end of season bbq) at my house... and we were doing this -- there was quite a crowd around -- and EVERYONE was amazed you could do this with your little handy dandy iPhone! It was pretty cool!

THANKS CHARLEY!

I just downloaded a new app called COLORSPLASH It's $1.99

Here's a picture of my new little 32 Ford done with it. You do all of this with your finger! So you take a picture - or select an existing picture - and ColorSplash turns it all grey -- then you just paint the area you want back to it's original color with your finger. There is a video that comes with the download that walks you through how it's done. Super simple and kind of fun.
