70 Camaro HO

I just picked it up today for $5,000. It is a LOT nicer than the 454 LT 73 Camaro I had. It has a rebuilt 355 with a 350 trans. Runs really well and drives great. It also has A/C, radio and new tires. The car doesn't have much rust, just a little bit at the bottom of the right quarter and a little bit here and there. He said the car was originally orange because you could see it in a few places plus it's the same color code that's on his other 70 Camaro. I wanted to go with black but his other Camaro looks awesome in H/O..

Plans are to lower it, 18 inch wheels, LS1/T56 swap and paint it orange.

Good deal Trey! His Orange car looks nice....anything done to it other than wheels? What's the story on the 67-8?

Not sure what else is done to it, didn't look under the hood. It is really nice inside and out but he took it to the store one day and someone kicked in the door. The 67 he just bought and has no motor or trans but the interior looks nice. The body is done and he needs to paint it. The 67 is his, the orange 70 is his wifes and the one I bought was his sons.

I have met plenty.. I busted out the window of a truck one time because some fags were throwing stuff at my car. I keep a rock in the cup holder because usually I get pennies and bottles thrown at me about once a month.

markss28 07-11-2010 08:50 AM

what city do you live in so I know never to bring my car there?

CRCRFT78 07-11-2010 11:06 AM

How long are you keeping this one before its up for sale?

Lol I am actually going to fix this one. I wanted to do the chevelle but it was filled with bondo.. This car is nice and shouldn't take much for paint. Plus my boss is going out of town so I should be able to have it painted pretty quick..

TreySmith 07-24-2010 02:43 PM

Started tearing into the quarters today. I was thinking oh no biggie, some fiberglass over the pin holes and were all good. But under that bondo was some nasty holes and some horrible patchwork filled with bondo. The left quarter wasn't too bad but the right one was nasty. I cut out quite a bit of the right quarter and patched it but I still need to patch the trunk drop offs. Of course we have the ****tiest welder in Texas so all my welds look horrible. I spent an hour just trying to set the damn thing up but the welds are good and the metal isn't going anywhere.

This week my friend is going to grind it back down and clean up my work and then we will smooth it out with filler. But I got a lot done today, all of the hard work is done now and will be smooth sailing from here. I just ran out of time which is why the patch work looks ****ty but it will be cleaned up soon.

Trey I was wondering since you had that big piece of sheet meatal in one pic, how come toy just did not take whole low section out and weld in that other piece? Nice looking car though!

I don't know, guess I just wasn't thinking at the time. I could have replaced the whole right side in one swoop instead of multiple pieces. I can't wait to get my wheels in though, going with Rushforth Livewires in 18's.

TreySmith 08-02-2010 06:06 PM

Got the spoiler on today, looks great!! The bodywork should be done Wednesday, just paying my friend so it will be done before boss gets back.

Also just put in the order for my wheels, can't wait! 18's all around. God I hope I don't regret not going with 17's in the front..

You won't as long as you ordered the right backspacing. A 235/40 fits on the front with no problems.

TreySmith 08-04-2010 07:49 PM

The bodywork is pretty close to being finished. Found some rust at the bottom where the door and quarter is and also a pin hole around the back window. The car looks like hell in the pics but the bondo is very thin and not caked on since the body was really clean. Only old bondo was on the fender where it meets the door and a few other random places like the sail panel. We painted a cool blue today but I think it's going to look too "ghetto" with the big wheels and what not.

It won't look " Ghetto " if you lower the car and get the stance right.

TreySmith 08-06-2010 09:34 PM

Bodywork done but the damn transmission went out today.. Hopefully it's a quick fix so I can still get it painted next week.

My car was dusty and parked overnight in a big parking lot a long time ago, I come out to my car in the morning to find shoe prints from the front of the hood all the way across my roof to my trunk and back.... no damage but still, who the hell just walks on a car??

TreySmith 08-14-2010 03:26 PM

Finally got the car back yesterday. A couple gears exploded and the fluid looked like silver spray paint with all the metal. He said the torque converter went bad throwing metal every where and destroying the pump. The car also had 6 cylinder internals and there was no way in hell it was ever rebuilt.

The car drives great now and the steering is awesome since he tightened up some of the front end components.. Maybe next week it will be painted.

srh3trinity 08-14-2010 03:35 PM

Any hints on what wheels you ordered or did you say that somewhere else in the thread?

TreySmith 08-14-2010 07:23 PM

18 inch Rushforth livewires with brushed centers. I'll put up an example pic in a minute.

srh3trinity 08-14-2010 08:11 PM

Nice choice. Are you still thinking blue on the paint? That would look great with a brushed wheel.

TreySmith 08-17-2010 11:18 PM

I was thinking about a dark blue, I will get you a pic of a car we painted yesterday and see what y'all think.

Here's what the wheels will look like..

TreySmith 08-25-2010 07:27 PM

Hey guys I had the bondo start to crack on the sail panels. Anything I can do to stop this other that SFC's? Not too big but I noticed a 1/4 inch crack on the drivers side.

Also it should be painted any day now, just still sitting in the paint line but I have been driving it every day for like the past week. I love this car.
I got a call for DriversInc and my wheels are ready. Should be here next week!! :woot:

The car is coming along very nice. I can't wait to see the Rushforth's on there!!!!!! Great job Trey

TreySmith 09-09-2010 06:18 PM

Looks good! Yep, that's a lot of black! Get the new wheels on there and see what ya think! Might need a silver or white strip....might not!

TreySmith 09-09-2010 06:56 PM

I am going to repaint the grill black and get one of those lower front spoilers, it's going to look sick all blacked out up front! Especially when I get the wheels on and the rear end down.

Also I just got my lowering blocks in thanks to Ma72z!!!

srh3trinity 09-10-2010 07:25 PM

Looks great! Maybe some Gran Sport stripes?

TreySmith 09-10-2010 07:36 PM

I'll see once it's lowered and has it's new shoes on. Unfortunately I am at that point again where I am like "Now what?"

Hopefully I won't wreck the damn thing lol.

Ron in SoCal 09-10-2010 08:27 PM

IMHO, two ways to go w black. Murdered out or contrast with brushed/chromed/polished parts. Get the wheels on and see what it looks like. Hard to beat Livewires on any car...

awr68 09-11-2010 08:59 AM

Personally I would go with the contrast look...especially if you ordered the wheels in natural finish. It will be more timeless and be much easier to sell when the day comes!

TreySmith 09-11-2010 11:00 AM

I knew if I went black I would have to contrast it with the brushed wheels, but this will be sort of a mixture. I love the way the front end looks all black with just a hint of chrome and headlights. So I will get a black chin spoiler and black out the grill. Maybe leave the chrome around the grill at first to see how it looks.

awr68 09-11-2010 11:46 AM

I have not studdied the 2nd gens a lot...well that's not totally true as I've always loved them since I was a kid...the neighbor had a killer red w/ white stripe and white interior 70 r/S....I loved that car!

My thought is that if you are going to run the chin spoiler then you need the larger of the tow rear spoilers....but that's just the way I think! If you want a cleaner look - then no front spoiler and the one piece rear spoiler...which that look has grown on me. :_paranoid

TreySmith 09-14-2010 06:19 PM

Here it is wetsanded and buffed, it's almost too shiny. Kinda ridiculous lol..

Not yet lol.

Idk, they took the final payment a few days ago and he said they would ship when they were paid for but I haven't gotten a tracking number. Tried to call today but they were closed.

Ron in SoCal 09-14-2010 09:24 PM

Paint job looks great. Get those wheels on there and you'll be one happy camper. Oh, and post some more pics!
