Wheel recommendations? 70 Camaro
I have been trying to find some wheels for about $2,000 and have had no luck. I am probably going to go with Hugger Orange or Black for my car so I think black with a polished lip would complement the orange and just polished would go better with the black. I love TT2's but I want someone different, seems I might have to turn to those though because of the price.
I wouldn't even mind something used if anyone is selling anything. Anyone have any opinions? Can't find any decent wheels. Looking for 18's.. |
I am in the same boat with my 73 and I am thinking I need to pony up the cash for some nice boze's, budniks, or rushforths...
|
what size do you want to run? 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 or 20"? By how wide?
Give up a size idea and the forum can suggest. I am sure some of the wheel distributors can help you out as well... |
18's. I am sure all of the distributors here are too rich for my blood though.
I don't know much about wheel width, but I was 295's to 315's in the back and 245s or so in the front. |
18 inch wheels

Trey, I have a couple different options for you. Feel free to give us a call to discuss.
|
I am in the same boat. I am looking in about the same price range but there's not alot in the range. I love the weld rts but I am sure they will be out of my price range also.

The only thing I don't like is the 4-6 week wait. |
wait? order now while you are repairing the car! Showing off again huh Trey that always gets you in trouble with a car J/K.
|
Nah lol got ran over by an 18 wheeler, I was in the Trans Am though. I like how I can hit 170 mph in the car but I wreck it going 3mph.

Just from my own personal experience, give paradise road rod and custom a call. I'm going to order my budniks through them in a few weeks, super sweet price and there probably the nicest guys to deal with
|
Take a look at CCW.
170 mph....really, in that car?? If so, I sure hope you weren't doing it on the street! |
Whatever you do , steer clear of polished aluminum.
They are a MAJOR PITA to polish annually. I'll never buy again. I got my last set of Foose Legends from Jon @ DriverzInc and I'm MUCH happier with the painted, powdercoated design with the polished lip. You won't find a better price online.......and if you do , he usually matches it or beats it. |

Why's that? I heard the lead time was long, 10 weeks or so, but hadn't heard anything else.
|
Her's mine with a set of Rushforth's. Picked them up used for $2000 with tires. 245/40/18 and 275/40/18. There are deals out there. If you want a cast set Boss Motorsports 338's are about $1500 with tires new.

Can we get some picture posts of wheels you guys have on your 2nd Gen F-Bodies? I might be looking for wheels also if this deal with my 93 Saleen goes through. I have a guy local that might trade me for his 73 Camaro that's almost completely restored, but to stock. The car will need to be lowered and needs the wheels changed out. I would like to get some ideas by seeing some 2nd Gens with wheels. Thanks guys. |
A word of caution: what fits a Bird will not fit a Camaro you can fit more tire on a Bird

I like the CCW 505a's but would there be any problem running a 2 inch spacer? I like the Rushforth Livewires too, kind of a toss up. What's the widest rear tire I can fit on a 18' with reasonable mods? Don't mind a little cutting but I am not going to tub the car. TT2's are cool but I wanted something different. |

Wtf, do they not want to sell wheels, I may rethink the budniks then, thx for the heads up
|
We usually see wheels ship between 10-12 weeks right now from Budnik.

I guess I am going with the Rushforth Livewires from Driversinc, just want to make sure that is what I want first though...
|
I love my Live Wires. I wish I went with the Chrome or polished finish. I have the Titanium finish. Looks good but, I like chrome but only on the wheels.
|
I think Rush Livewires are great looking wheel. Good choice. Now don't be shy with the pics when you get them either :) .

The Rushforth line is a great wheel line.

Before I make my order does anyone think I should run 17's on the front? I have 235/65/15's on the front and they rub a little as it is. I also think the 18's might look a little big up front.
|
I went with 18's for the extra inch of height.
John hows this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4hlIeToDmM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKEDPuKNofQ |
I like a 25.5" tire in front and a 27" tire in the rear of these cars, fill the wheel wells nicely. 71RS/SS396 has it nailed. These cars look good with a inch more rear tire, or a inch of tire and wheel stagger.
You could do it either way, if you do 17s with a 25.5 tire you will have slightly less rubber around the tire front then rear (which is OK, anything but more rubber showing on the front then the rear) You save a couple hundred dollars doing 17s up front, and tires are a tick less money too. Also, I want to add, if you are apprehensive about 18" front wheels being to big, you probably better go 17s. If you do not think you like 18s up front now, my experience says you won't like it once you own them. I am kind of a bigger wheel guy. I never try to talk anyone into a larger size wheel then they think they are comfortable with. |
I agree. The 17's fit the Camaro way better than the Firebird. The Firebird has a much more round wheel well opening. The 18's are easier to get the wheel well filled. If I could have received the same look with 17's I would have went that route. Tires are lighter and less expensive. Both a plus.
|
I was really more concerned about the tires rubbing but no one has 18's on their car to even compare. I think the 18's will look well though.
|
If the backspace is right and the tire diameter is right, no worries on running a 18" tire
|
Just put my order in, thanks guys!
|
Glad we could help Trey!!
