Ugh. I can't help myself. I promised my wife I would not buy anything else for the car this year unless it was absolutely necessary.

So I ordered up some DSE fender braces and Ring Brothers stainless bolts. I have a couple of shows coming up this year...thought it would be cool to win a trophy after all this effort so the details matter. I guess necessity is fluid in this hobby.

Well...I DO live in Minnesota! Rust is the enemy! ;)

That's the reason I got the bolts in the first place. Take the stock fender bolts out a few times, and before you know it, it's rusting where the paint came off.

I needed the adjustable fender struts to help align the sheetmetal...we know how difficult that is on a '69 Firebird! Right?!?

One time my wife came home from a trip to another state -- where my brother in law lives (I've known him longer than I've known her!) and she walks through the shop (some buddies there) and says... "So.... just how many cars DO you have...." And keeps on walking... not waiting for an answer.

My buddies were in shock. I just continued on as though nothing had happened.

She had been out to her brothers warehouse... and he squealed.


BTW -- NEVER open the "shoe" argument. You will solve nothing. And you will never win. Don't ask. I figure she spends X2 or 3 on clothes for every dollar I send on car "stuff" --- and my stuff has value IF I wanted to sell... show me the value of used clothes or "trips"... LOL BUT DON'T EVER GO THERE if you know what's good for you. "Yes dear" is the proper response.

That's good advice Greg! I'm a 'fairly' newlywed. She's been a good sport so far. I think when I went for a walk at the Car Craft show the other weekend and strolled back with a new aluminum radiator/shroud/dual spal fans/controller and wiring.....she started to ask a few questions.

I said, 'Yes dear!' a LOT that week! :D

You think shoes are bad? Try buying your wife a Camaro. Which then leads to radiator, serpentine accesory drive, Vintage Air, 468 BBC, TKO 600... Well I guess it's not all for her. :unibrow: Now that it's back on the road I just need to keep finding gremlins so I can keep going on "test drives". :_paranoid

This disease appears particularly rampant among males involved with gear-related hobbies (music, golf, cycling, fishing, boating, motor sports...well, anything, really), but there are also documented cases of females suffering from the similar symptoms. To this point, there is no known cure for GAS. The only method currently known to treat the discomfort of GAS symptoms, is for the infected person to purchase the item that is the focus of those symptoms as quickly as possible. Treatment of the immediate symptoms is typically temporary relief only and usually includes feelings of happiness or even euphoria. More often than not, symptoms will return soon after relief of the previous GAS flare-up. Treatment of repeated GAS cycles often requires more expensive treatment with each re-occurrence of symptoms. GAS has been directly linked to financial difficulties and relationship troubles. It is commonly thought that spending a significant amount of time on internet forums related to one's hobby can increase the occurrence of GAS symptoms, and may actually be the initial cause of the disease for some people. This fact has not yet been conclusively proven and documented.

Holy crap I've got gas! I'm always looking for more cars and junk it's a sickness and these sites make it even worse! My wife just gave up she usually does'nt even ask anymore its the dont ask dont tell policy around here.

Yea, I definitely noticed a smaller wallet after joining here. But I guess on the good side of that I wont ever have to worry about back problems due to an oversized wallet.

How do you like your TKO 600?

For the minimal amount we have driven it since it was put in, it's definitely better than the Saginaw 4-speed that was in it. I definitely like having a 5th gear.

Mine originally has a Muncie 4-speed but I plan on using the TKO when my build starts coming together.

BTW, congrats Beth on getting the car on the road again, it's always an awesome feeling! I went though it this year again with my new motor updates. Now get out there and enjoy that bad boy this weekend! I live in a rural town but commute to the city with the car. Your last pic reminds me of my drive home...nothing beats tearing up the 2 lane blacktop in an old muscle car. Life doesn't get any better than that, does it?!?

I am surprised at how quickly my fuel tank goes down! But who wants to drive slow when you've got a muscle car? :D

We really never had it on the road much to begin with since it was December when we bought it (and had just gotten 14 inches of snow). So I think we've put on more miles in the last week than the previous 7-1/2 months! Which is kinda sad, but we just had one thing after another to deal with until we found the cracked block. That was a depressing day. :willy: Just got the timing adjusted today (it was 5 degrees off) and now the new carb will need a little adjusting, but other than that, we should be good to go! Of course it would be nice to have our vintage air installed with this fabulous August heat & humidity. After all the mechanical stuff is adjusted, that's next!

But in all reality, all I'd need is a cool old car, a big block, a manual tranny and an open road! Life is good!

Yeah - I was laughing to myself while typing it - because it really is the truth around my house anyway. We just maintain the don't ask don't tell... I have a great wife - and frankly my dear - she just doesn't give a damn (to steal an old line).
