Subframe options for stock sub aftermarket parts?

I was talking to DSE about a new sub, but I would not be able to use my Speedtech A-arms, hotchkis sway, and Willwood brakes and spindles. Are there any other options for subs out there that I could swap my parts onto and still fit a wider front tire? Thanks.

Speedtech is the perfect solution for you. And since your both in Canada.........

the Speedtech frame will work.
have to upgrade to rack and pinion, and steering shaft kit and coil over shocks. maybe headers and away you go.

I am running a BBC with some 2.25" Lemons race headers with my stock sub. Any issues with those on a Speedtech sub?

My GUESS is the header would clear, but I would not promise. I am sure Speedtech won't know for sure either. You may have to modify a tube or towo on the driver side.

Sounds like a winter project

Have you thought about reworking your stock sub. With a little bit of work you can fit a 9.5 wheel up frt.

LS1NOVA 08-09-2010 08:21 PM

What kind of work does that include?

If you use a unisteer rack & pinion you can notch the outside parts of the sub frame by a few inches on each side.We found our unisteer rack on ebay under a company called fatrodder.about $595.00 plus shipping.

Its about time these ""afthermarket"" companys, wil divelop stuff for the pontiac engine mill insted of ""ALWAYS"" think on chevy engine blocks only. Pontiac hase a there factory block , but also 4 ""afthermarked"" blocks and more then 10 diferend aluminum heads to choose from!!.

A serius wake up call is called for , There is also no rack and pinion for pontiac powers cars, yet there are plenty brands making them for chevy!! shearing that marked.
One of these companys should step up!!.. funny thing is speed tech is advertizing a afthermarked ""firebird and transam subframe"", yet it sais no modifications hase been done to ecsept the pontiac engine. how lame is that!!!!!

Any pics of a notched subframe?

On the stock sub, is the reason for moving to the rack to get the outer tie rod ends away from the wheel? Wondering if you have to switch to different steering arms when you go to the rack. My outers are very close to my wheels (19 x 8's) now, no way I could go wider unless I was able to gain clearance by going up with the outer tie rod ends (shorter steering arms on the spindles) which would put them inside the wheel (from the back side of course). These are Speedtech (ATS) Spindles which have, I believe, a one inch drop or more drop. I'm planning on the Speedtech Sub myself since I have all their stuff for the front now and it works absolutely amazing. I just want to get a bigger tire under there at some point. Just wondering if I could get by for now with a rack in order to stuff a larger tire under it.

You could get a rack now, but it would not fit our sub....

Tim, my wallet thanks you. I'll just hold off until I get your subframe---planning to install it when the new motor goes in the car----and the hits just keep on coming.

After all this time I am still on the fence. On

1) Speed tech road assault package with AFX Spindles. 2,800.00 with stock subframe.

What is the wides wheel and tire combo I can fit for 69 camaro

or 2). Complete subframe with spindles. 5,800.00.

The first choice leaves room for wheels tires brakes. Roller.

Option1 is my choice..... Plus if you really want to you can notch the Frame for 9.5 inch wheels look up Lance-W he has several threads on it..

David we have had one or two customers install Pontiac engines in the Speedtech sub frame. they made their own motor mounts and the rack and pinion did fit. one is a member on here.
the reasn the after market us included haven't done a pontiac is that there are just not enough people doing the swap.
i don't think a "wake up call" is needed the customers need to be there to pay for the R&D

the steering that are used with the Unisteer Rack are very short, and do provide room for wheels. my Nova has 18x9.5 with 6.5 BS wheels and no issues, even with the drop which by the way is 7/8 of an inch ove the stock spindle.
