NSANE Hot Rodz presents project (MINI ME)

No its not a Camaro, its a 72' Honda. Before the owner delivered the car today I had no idea they made Honda's in 1972? This is the most unusual project I've ever had the chance to build.:D Yes it was delivered on his lawn mower trailer. Dewayne

Very cool. What are the plans?!?

wellis77 08-30-2010 11:28 PM

That's AWESOME!!! I had a '74 for a while. Thing ran like a champ. Mine was a former racer but no idea in what series. Just before I sold it, I found out the head gasket was blown. NO IDEA!!! Just kept running and running and running. Fun little car. What are the plans for this one?

BritishGreen68 08-31-2010 12:15 AM

S2K drivetrain??

NsaneHotrodz 08-31-2010 05:35 AM

Not real sure yet. The owner wants to get it disassembled and blasted this week. I'll keep you informed as we go. Thanks

Dewayne

I like those cars. I worked as a tech at a Honda dealer for a few years. There was one old guy that would bring one in once in a great while. The Honda dealer was owned by a Chevy dealer. One of the other techs said that in 72 they had a promotion that if you bought a 72 Chevy truck they'd give you a Honda 600. The Honda is so small they put one in the back off a truck as a display lol. Apparently the mark up on the truck was higher than what it cost the dealer for the Honda.

More pics to come. The roll cage should be finished up next week. The new rocker panels are being fitted now. :unibrow:

Busa Motor , LS6 ??
Variety is cool ./:unibrow:

ArisESQ 10-09-2010 05:38 PM

that thing would be awesome with an s2k drivetrain.

NsaneHotrodz 10-09-2010 06:01 PM

We're still trying to decide which engine to go with. I'll have that answer next week.:unibrow: It should fun to drive! Everyone that comes in the shop goes straight for the Honda.

l2azorback 10-09-2010 06:30 PM

Honda

This thing would be really cool with GSXR turbo set-up.....do a search for GSXR Smart Car on YouTube

toddshotrods 10-09-2010 06:34 PM

Sweet project! I love those old Hondas. I vote for a 'busa engine. Maybe turn it 90-degrees under the hood and run a driveshaft to a narrowed IRS, tubbed out with 275's or something! :unibrow: :D

I have a rendering around somewhere that I was experimenting with. All the above, minus the 'busa motor, and it was a coupe. I still dream of doing it someday...

NsaneHotrodz 10-09-2010 08:31 PM

The owner is really wanting to keep the 10" wheels on the car:lol: I think the rims are 3.5" wide. We'll see what happens in the next few weeks.:unibrow:

Builder explains to customer: "My bad, I thought you meant 10-inches wide!"

If I had more time and energy I would have sketched the cartoon to go with that. ;)

NsaneHotrodz 10-10-2010 02:04 PM

I wonder if I can get a tire for a 10"x10" rear wheel?

NsaneHotrodz 11-10-2010 07:35 PM

Another small cut and it should be close.:unibrow:

A small update today, we just got back to the shop from picking up a donor car. The owner has decided to go with a V-8:unibrow: I'll try to post a video of the new engine running next week. This build just got a little more interesting and alot faster:D DeWayne

Hdesign 01-08-2011 09:58 AM

Should we believe that the first engine is going where the second is placed?

NsaneHotrodz 01-09-2011 10:53 AM

Yes sir! I'll have pics of the install next week. DeWayne

Derek Miller 01-09-2011 10:56 AM

I am loving it, when you first introduced the project I instantly thought of stuffing a V8 into it and now you are. Cannot wait to see this thing evolve.

NsaneHotrodz 01-28-2011 08:01 PM

New tires arrived yesterday. Waiting on rear tires and alot of other parts to make this a roller! Plans are to stretch the rear quarters and see how big of a wheel we can stuff inside. DeWayne

Very cool. That should be a mean little machine. Looks great.

NsaneHotrodz 02-02-2011 05:40 PM

Today we finished the rear frame rails. We started on the new door hinge mounts and the lower A-pillars. I;m still trying to decide on which type of front suspension to use. DeWayne

How about custom Ride Tech air struts. I said custom because I'm guessing they'd have to be pretty short.
