Pro Touring Camaro at Sears Point

You would have to prove it to me that pro-touring camaro can run a 1.53.531at Sears Point.

And?

Meaning how are we supposed to have an opinion one way or another if we don't know the car?

I could show a nose cam from an F1 car and wonder if you can beat that.. so without more info I'm not catching the point of the post.

But I will say the video is pretty badass to watch :)

What's the point.

SLO_Z28 09-02-2010 08:04 PM

I only got to drive Infineon once and it was in a street car. Did 2:12, so I appreciate the lap time, but i'd put money down that cars like the penny are capable of minute 40's.

Track Junky 09-02-2010 08:22 PM

1:53 at Infineon, no prob, let me know the next time you go out, I will meet you there.

Josh69 09-02-2010 08:35 PM

What are we even watching? It sounds like a turbo import.

Steve1968LS2 09-02-2010 08:46 PM

Oh hell Jack.. I must be getting old timers disease.. I thought the name sounded familiar.. lol

How's the Camaro comming along?

Jacks a good guy.. has a bad ass PT '69 Camaro being built.. but his post still has me going :boggled: lol

For Camaro Performers readers I wrote about his project a few months ago.. They call it Charlie Ass.. :D

skatinjay27 09-02-2010 09:25 PM

im guessing the main point of the thread was just to show us a fun fast video of one of his runs...he just picked the wrong context to add to it.

Penny won't run minute 40's at that track.

Jacks car is a 2007 Mustang with Keene Bell supercharger and Jack drives the wheels off it.
I managed a 2:01 on 6 or 7 cylinders in the vintage Shelby race...Finished the race but it appears the cam is wiped out.

Jacks car is the white Mustang behind the black one.

Track Junky 09-02-2010 10:20 PM

I ran a 1:56 at Infineon in 2006 but I am now 200 lbs lighter with 125 more hp and have had some suspension mods that has gained me 3 seconds at Buttonwillow and 6 seconds at Thunderhill. Haven't tested at Infineon yet but I imagine I should be able to get a 1:53 or better.

Vegas69 09-02-2010 11:19 PM

I have my money on Gaetano.

Jack Maurer 09-04-2010 04:14 PM

Not an import wing

Sounds like you can do 1:53 with no problems; sign up for an event and we will have a great Mustang / Camaro Challenge

Jack Maurer 09-04-2010 04:25 PM

Thanks for the support Charlie

There is a more in the car, but the driver is pretty much at his limit

Jack Maurer 09-04-2010 04:29 PM

Here is another video that shows more of the car

Hey, I am an equal opportunity car guy. Thought I would create a lively discussion with the Mustang versus Camaro debate. In fact, I building a pro-touring 69 Camaro inspired by Charlie Lillard and Mark Steilow. I will be introducing the car in the near future.

Sounds like fun. I did notice your line was wrong coming out of 7 and going through the s turns. Those are late apex turns. Also coming out of the s's right before turn 9 it looked like you could have pushed through a little faster, something I learned my last time there in 2006 that helped me gain a better time.

If budget and weather allow, I should be there with NASA running time trials October 9th and 10th.

If you are interested, a bunch of us from the Pro-Touring site will be at Buttonwillow Sept. 25th with Speed Ventures. Place "Pro-Touring.com" in the comments box when registering and you will save the $20 towards timing and transponder rental.

Very cool. Will you be posting the car on here? I would like to see it.
Thanks!

Infineon - proper line

You are correct, I have a hard time pushing out of 8a thru turn 9; however, not sure I share you opinion on on coming out of turn 7. Come out to the Nor Cal event at Thunderhill in mid October and show me your line. Can't make the Buttonwillow event, but will be at Laguna Sept 18th and 19th.

Hmm....my guess is that will be during the week as are alot of NorCal events. What the hell, I need another NorCal hat anyways. See you there.

The more Camaros the better

Here is the link to the website for registration
http://norcal-saac.org/index.htm

The Shelby Club welcomes everyone; makes for a great event. The NorCal group is very well organized and they put on a fun event. I am sure Charlie Lillard will be at the Fall Classic, but you never know what he will bring from his stable of cars. Look to see you there.

Track Junky 09-06-2010 09:39 PM

Oh, Shelby Club, glad you posted the link, Thought you meant NCRC. $270 is over my budget for a track day, but since you have all that extra money why not show up at one of my events. You can have a track day, buy me lunch and still be money ahead, LOL. Just kidding.

With all the exrta work and changes to car this year, budget has been limited to two trips to any one track this year just to see lap time change with each suspension change.

I will post my time for Buttonwillow Sept 25th and will be my final track day down there until I hear of someone with a PT car beating my time on the 13 cw configuration.

My last two track days this year will be at Infineon in Oct. and Nov. One day for test and tune, second day to re-test new tune and post time.

Only reason I am considering Thunderhill a third time, last time out only got 2 sessions in due to cracked spark plug that we didn't find till I got home.
I ran a 2:08 there 1st session on a cold track, 2:10 second session due to being stuck in traffic.

Keep me posted on your times.

Jack Maurer 09-07-2010 06:59 AM

Thunderhill with NCRC

I agree NCRC gives you a lot of bang for the buck compared to NorCal Shelby; what are the October dates for the NCRC event? My best lap time in April of this year was a 2:05.62; sounds like we should have some fun on the track.

I have only run one weekend at Buttonwillow; not my most favorite track, but sure is a lot closer to home in So. Cal.

Track Junky 09-07-2010 12:23 PM

I would have to re-check NCRC's schedule but I think somewhere around October 18th. 2:05 is a good time, depending on what tires you are running. I'm running R 888's and should be able to get 2:05, but if I step up to Hoosiers I'd be shooting for 1:59's.

Jack Maurer 09-07-2010 01:04 PM

NCRC is Friday, October 22nd. NorCal is the weekend of Oct 16th and 17th. I can't do both events; catch you next time.

I am running Hoosier R6's; a 1:59 would be a very very good time

Track Junky 09-07-2010 01:45 PM

Slowest track time buy's lunch :unibrow: See ya soon.

68protouring454 09-07-2010 02:18 PM

hoosier r6's will not give you 6 seconds over the r888s on the same car, same track. If you know the track real good, you may see 2 seconds max. i have a few thousand laps on r888s and about the same on r6's
going from r6 to full slick you will see another 2 second gain at most, unless your still learning track.
jake

Track Junky 09-07-2010 03:07 PM

I have heard that Hoosiers are typically about 3 sec's faster than R888,s. Siko2SS ran R888's and the Hoosiers at Thunderhill running his T1 vette, the Toyo's got him 2:08's the Hoosiers 1:59's. We will see.

Jack Maurer 09-07-2010 04:07 PM

Six second gain going from Toyo to Hoosiers????

Lunch?...slowest time should buy dinner. All we need now is more of the Camaro guys to show up....same deal for all.

I agree, doubt if you or anyone will pickup 6 seconds just going from Toyo's to Hoosiers.

Track Junky 09-07-2010 04:30 PM

LOL, I like your competitive nature.

I've been to Thunderhill twice this year and its been about 4 years before that. I'm not just counting on the tires alone, my line lacks in a few areas. My goal is 1:59, and I know my car has it in her. I think my next time out on Hoosiers should get me around 2:02's.

Win or lose, this is my kind of fun. Look forward to my steak and lobster dinner, LOL.

Jack Maurer 09-07-2010 04:42 PM

Is Jackass and Bad Penny up for the challenge??

Good chance Charlie will show up with Jackass and maybe Steve with Bad Penny....maybe both will be buying us dinner.

not sure you saw this video....this is 153.4 lap

http://contour.com/node/108424

clill 09-07-2010 07:42 PM

LOL...On October 16th me and Jackass will be at the Playboy Mansion.:unibrow: http://musclecarsatthemansion.com/

Track Junky 09-07-2010 08:06 PM

Unbelievable......
