1968 Camaro "Badmotorfinger" v2.2
Well I am glad to be back in the sea of Camaros. After being forced to sell my previous 68 earlier this year, I was able to get back into a position to get another one, albeit much more tame! But I like it that way this time.
I learned a lot from the past build about myself, shops, estimates, priorities, etc... and I think that's a great thing to have gone through now in hindsight. Have a few minor things I want to add or change to this car but otherwise will get to know it as is and go from there. Well, enough talking.. here are the details and pics from today's maiden voyage. Bought the car in Modesto and drove it about 60 miles back to my new storage unit/shop in Dublin. Nice pick up!! Sounds healthy. I like the black wheels against the blue. Glad to hear you're back in the game!!
|
Good to see you back at it. Looks to be a ton of fun!!
  |
Nice I like it......so what are you going to change?
|
I have had a couple of 377s with that exact cam. With that aluminum flywheel, that cam, Revs like crazy I am sure. Lots of fun to drive.
Looks like a little this and that and your ready to rock! |
Great looking streetfighter Dave.
|
I'm diggin it. I'm with Frank, a few tweeks and it's yours. I'd start with taking off the front bumper and new wheels. :unibrow: If you want to bring it for SEMA, I'm sure we can stuff 4 Camaros in garages around here.
|
That's awesome Dave. Congrats!
Looks like a really nice car and sounds good too! |
Looks good!
Funny about the "learning" curve of a pro build.... and not bashing the pros here at all.... 'cause it's usually the customer driving the cost up. But the old "if you have to ask - you can't afford it" comes to mind when building HIGH LEVEL cars. These things tend to get out of control real easy. This looks like a good car to just go out and have a blast with... and that, to me, is the best kind of car. :woot: |
^ yeah, what he said! And you don't have to change your screen name...
|
Very cool! It's amazing what you can pick up these days for $16k!! (yeah right!) I'm glad you were able to get it....I've always liked that car!!
I'm thinking loose the front bumper...get some fuel and raise some hell!! :woot: Oh, and head to Oregon so I can have a ride!!  |
Nice pickup and congrats on getting back into the game

4 Camaros for SEMA.... damn that is tempting... let's see how this thing is doing in a month - that would be a helluva trip for sure. And who doesn't love screaming down I-5 doing 70mph @ 3300 rpm. :D |

But you are right on - a nice car that isn't too fancy or perfect paint/body so I can go out and have fun with it. Just what I want and need right now. Quote:

I am coming to see my relatives again in Portland in the spring I believe - we'll see if this car will join me. :) Quote:

maybe replace the flowmasters *wink* *wink* Can't wait to see it in person. |
Is that the car that was on this or PT.com for sale a year or so ago? I like it...
|
that's great Dave, glad to see things have improved.

Maybe a OD conversion is first. You won't be doing 70 with King kiss ass Renner. Even though I think he still has a 3 speed?

I need to email you about that Mark VIII fan... |

Renner and his pro street, I mean, pro touring 69 with 24's? Does he use the line lock when he takes off for his auto-x runs? :D |
A couple more pics of caging, trunk/fuel cell, and suspension.

You have a much better stroke / bore ratio for RPMs and I ASSUME it is a 6" rod motor which would make the rod ratio killer to. I would bet 6800 to 7000 is a good shift point for you. |

But yesterday I just wanted to get the car home safely. :D I'll rev that sucker up here soon and see how it goes. It does have a high rev kit on it I believe. We'll know soon enough. |
Congrats Dave!!! Im so stoked you got it. Where gonna have to get together soon for sure. Still gonna try and hit the strip with us on Oct 16th?? I hope so! Sucker should flat rip!
I totally agree about the cam......thats a big ol sucker for a nice street car. Something in the 240 ish at .050 would be alot more street friendly and still run super hard. |
Quote:
Yeah I think the cam is matched well for the motor but not so much for street driving and cruising. The cam is Vertigo was around 240/250 @ .050 and it was pretty easy to cruise I thought. |
Cool keep me posted!
|
Congrats Flash  That did not take long at all. I remember seeing the car posted before and I liked it. Keep us posted

This one will get the miles. |

BTW, I really like the car and its "all business" look. I don't know how many owners it has had but I remember driving behind it for a while on my way back from the Pomona swap meet several years ago. It definitely has a presence on the road. Matt |

Thanks Matt. I know of 3 owners (I got one big ass folder/binder of receipts and paperwork for each one, which is nice). So what did this thing look like when you saw it down there? I thought it's been a local Norcal for quite awhile but maybe not... |
congrats dave glad to see ya got a car you can enjoy!!!!
looks sweet but I think it needs some 69 tail lights!!!!!!!!!!!!! well at least a streetfighter spoiler . |
Quote:
I do have the streetfighter spoiler on my wish list... good call... but I really am determined to keep this thing as cheap as possible. Only looking for used parts if I can find them for now. I learned a lot from that damn Vertigo car. :D |
The only thing it needs is me behind the wheel! :unibrow:
|
How about a idle video.....:unibrow:
|
The car looks great. Good luck with it.
