Anyone know a good black paint code?
I need a good black to paint my car. Preferrably a blue black instead of a brown black. Non metallic PPG or similiar
Thanks! |
FWIW, I have heard from many that if you want a great finish of black go single stage.
PM Blake, Pete, or Frank....their black cars always look great! |
H.o.c!!!!!

GM WA 8555 is straight black with no extra toners.

Toyota black as well

HOK jet set black is a nice black, but also a transparent black over black base coat.
I have been using PPG DBC9700 with good results. Pretty much same staight black used by many OE manufacturers |

Frank won't even tell me the color code.

Spies Hecker FP2002, this is their blue black. And the FP stands for factory pack, which means it's premixed at the factory. Another bonus is you can get it in quarts or gallons and you can return any unopened portions... ;)

musclerodz,
Thanks for the PPG code. Spies Hecker is out of my budget for this car. This is just a driver I am putting together to sell. |

i used to use duponts 99k then switched to ppg and now use the dbc9700. i will be perfectly honest with you. i paint all day long for a dealership and anytime a black car comes(non metallic) in, i paint the entire panel with 9700 off of the car and dont blend. i have NEVER had a "match" complaint. EVER. IMHO black is black.. just make sure you get full coverage and use a nice high luster clear.. i think the key for black is to use a qualitly clear.

yeah ive noticed a brown hue before, then i applied to more coats of black... its all about coverage. i guess black is black is too bold of a statement for some but at the end of the day it has never failed me personally (besides omni, its definately brown!! lol)... not trying to start an arguement or anything.

Not sure of the code (DCC9000 comes to mind) - but we've had very good success with PPG's single stage acrylic urethyne paint - CONCEPT is the name of the line. A little trick we've learned is to mix in Clear with the paint; it allows to flow out better and makes for less Orange Peel, also, when color sanding the characteristics of the clear make for an easy wet/sand polish process.
Just my two cents Good luck! Tom |

The mix formula for DBC9700 is straight DMD1683, I chaecked before i left with it. Our supplier was out of DBC9700 so that is why I ended up with DMD1683. I promise it has less pigment than the fac pac. Color looks the same especially since we went over DP90 as our sealer. |
