Project TimeWarpF100 45yrs in the Making...
Thought I would share the build of Project TimeWarpf100
This is a dream truck from a "Dream" that will be 45yrs old tomorrow when my dad pulled into the driveway with a brand new 1966 F100! Even though I was only 8yrs old It was love at first look... In 1978 I bought a 1967 Mercury Capri with a Factory 425hp 427 & a 4spd with only 12k miles on the clock. It was then I thought some day I want a BRAND NEW 1966 F100 powered by a Dual Quad 427 Side Oiler. Since tomorrow is 45yrs to the day when I fell in love with the 66 F100 body style, I thought it would be as good of a time as any to share my build of it. This started out a a very very nice unmolested Arizona Short Bed Custom cab in a very rare Orange/White 2-tone. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psa7b1ed14.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps4db782a1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps655feef6.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psc9f4333c.jpg |
Stripping of Paint and teardown

Once it was torn down it was time to make carts for the cab and box to make moving them around and blasting etc a bit easier
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps2a2496a8.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps5e0a701c.jpg |
I made the carts stackable for blasting & Painting. The box cart will also serve as an engine run stand.

A trial fit of engine and trans prior to blasting and powdercoating of frame.

a few key engine components started to show up and a bit of test fitting was done.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps83f1c2f5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...pse68643ca.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps40d3497a.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps78beffc7.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps2f06e54d.jpg |
Took a Cobra Jet C-6 out of the cobwebs and started a rebuild. Had an "ISSUE" with the trans case because someone put a bottle jack under it to "LIFT" the car. A quick weld job and back at it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psc3986996.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps59b0defb.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps370fe292.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps7e579b22.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps3676ccb2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psb679ad56.jpg A custom torque converter was also ordered at this time... A Yukon Gear Posi unit was added to the 9" rear supporting the stock 3:50 gear set |
I then dragged the frame outside for a quick sandblast before bringing to the powdercoater along with other misc parts.

They did a VERY NICE job on the parts. And at a price I could not begin to buy paint and materials for. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psea3d58c1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps4078e202.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps83c4b02c.jpg |
Great looking build and such clean metal to start with.
What type of stripper did you use on the paint/body? |
Yeah the stripper looks powerful strong. What are you using?
Super cool project! Darren |

Aircraft Remover by Klean Strip. They make both spray can and quarts/gallons. I normally keep some spray around but does not work as good. That hood was ONE application of the stripper in approx 20min time. The key is to not move it/brush it around much. Best is to pour and let run down saving what runs off and using it again. If its brushed on very thin it will take more applications. Pour it on without brushing on a vertical surface and it will start to peel within minutes. If many layers of paint and bondo it will take a few applications. Key is to neutralize it with soapy water (Ivory Liquid) and a scotch bright before priming etc. Once surface is stripped and clean I then use a PPG metal conditioner to scrub the metal again prior to paint/primer. The metal conditioner also keeps it from surface rusting. |
I also stripped the inside of fenders, the door jambs and cab floor along with underside were also sand blasted. The carts made blasting a breeze.
I use engine stands with a special attachment for the doors where I can have them stand up normal turn them around or even lay them flat for blocking. A fender stand was also made and fenders will pretty much stay there until complete, sanded, buffed and ready to go on. I do all the blocking, work, prime and paint on the stands. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psb3067d07.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psac94bcf8.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps340775b0.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psd50b18b2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps6028da50.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psb94465d3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psa53f9128.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps314e84b9.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psd632d450.jpg |
Great styling during those years and you certainly have a solid truck to start with it appears.
What kind of mods are you doing to the suspension? |
I will pick n' file and work the metal then apply the epoxy primer.
If there is a portion thats impossible to get straight I add a bit of old tyme lead work... and pick and file some more. Self taught but I get by... My style and technique is not like the pro's but gets the job done instead of farming anything out. I just do what works for me. Fenders and doors in primer (PPG DPLF74) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps56feb8fa.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps620577b2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps1791f803.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps3a5c8529.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps0708c3a9.jpg |
After metal prepped prior to the first primer.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps7ad831af.jpg Metal turns a blue/gold and no white in color then I know its ready. |
I then apply a few coats of "blocking" primer and sand until the fingertips are raw! Those nook and crannies underneath are torture. Of course a bit of guide coat is put on top and bottom in and out first. Once sanded smooth I apply another shot of primer and block all over again..... When happy I finally quit the priming and apply tinted sealer and paint...

I now have the trans rebuilt (My first Automatic rebuild so hope it works!)
Where is the engine? so much to do so little time! LOL http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps121af66f.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psa9cd7119.jpg |
Its now ENGINE TIME! Very time consuming process but something I enjoy very much. The engine Build!
Double, Triple and Quadruple check everything. Simply cannot afford a mistake. Its "ONLY" 482 Cu In... A road race pan for those track days I plan on running... |
Engine and Trans now done, time to drop it in and drop on the done cab assy.

This is pretty much where its at right now. So much to do so little time... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps8227580e.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psddfaa30d.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps876fca2a.jpg |
Very nice. Paint looks awesome. Nice build.
|
Thanks for taking the time to share the pictures. Awesome job.
Darren |
love it:thumbsup:
|
Man you had some clean metal to start with! My dad's building a 61 F100 and his is nowhere near as clean or straight as yours. Looks awesome, can't wait to see it finished. Loving the BBF power too!
Joe. |
Absolutely Love it. I've been following your thread over on GJ and I can't get enough. I've learn a bunch from your thread. I'm still curious as to what your "Magic Soap" is.. Keep up the great build. You sure don't see many of these side oilers. Also did you fabricate the stand that you have your fenders on?
|

Yes, I built the fender stand, the box and cab stands along with the attachments for door/engine stands. The fender stand comes apart so I can slide it under a workbench etc when not in use. More updates soon. I have a 2nd Side OIler under the bench I will most likely sell soon. |
This is the wheel I will be using on this project.
I already have the tires too. Eagle F1 SuperCar 285/40ZR-18's in the Rear. " " " 255/45ZR-18's in front These are 180 Treadwear tires and very sticky when warm. Not for use under 40deg F. Excellent Excellent in wet conditions Wheel: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psc537e26c.jpg |
Very nice. Killer wheel and tire choice!

Going on 4yrs since I gave an update.
Still have the project which has been sitting and just collecting dust for the 4yrs. Moved 3 times in 9 months with all my stuff plus a illness. I have finally gotten to point where I have it back in shop now vs storage. Slow going but have made a bit of progress over past month or two. I was able to replace the box floor and make some new pieces for the 4 corners of box. Still needs a bit more welding and grinding then will be ready for primer. Many months to just get that much done. Box sat in middle of shop floor for a couple years waiting. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps730819de.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psefe60631.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psf568ba1d.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psdb1d38b3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps8cb4ccc5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psb1017c07.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psa6fee2ae.jpg |
Like a fool started another project in the middle of it all . . . Its been on hold a couple yrs now. Just what I needed, another project before first one was done . .
Another '66 truck but this one will be my daily driver so its getting a late model drivetrain and suspension. 3.5L TT EcoBoost http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psd88d2492.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps1ede0f5b.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psfeb1ec45.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps2bec1e92.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps0cb8dd63.jpg |
back to the 427 truck.
When I moved I dropped on the front clip to help with damage issues in shipping across country. These were taken a few weeks ago. I have since pulled the front clip and started to build headers for it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...2/IMG_6219.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...2/IMG_6216.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...2/IMG_6215.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...pseb58dbc9.jpg |
Only thing better than one 66 F100 is two. :D Glad to see you are back on this and feeling better.
