Not a good way to start your Monday!

I got woken up this morning by my bro-in-law banging on my front door.

I keep my Camaro under one of those car tents, but not anymore. He was driving by my house and he saw the tent sitting in the middle of the street. It's real windy and rainy outside right now (supposed to rain for 3 days).

I guess I'm going to have to try to figure out something else to do, once all the rain stops. It was up for eight months, through some big windstorms, and had no problems up unil now.

The small miracle is that the car looks like it doesn't have a scratch. I'm still pretty pissed though.

Yeah TJ, it really sucks out there today. We even got some snow on the ground and on the vehicles. I'm assuming you did too. Sorry about the tent. Make sure you really secure it down. They said the wind gusts are supposed to hit 50 mph today. It's pretty windy out there now.
Good luck man!

I did have it staked down at each of 8 posts and had two cinderblocks at each post also.

Looks like the rain is letting up so I can go out there and see if it is saveable or not. I do know that the top post, that goes along the whole length is bent from where it wrapped around the tree.

I need to try and save more money so I can build the addition to my garage sooner than I wanted to

I know how you feel storing a car outside. I did it with the Camaro for a while. I got lucky and found a reasonably priced garage where the owner worked out of his yard and watched it for me. I used a car cover and then a poly cover over that. But the car was still in ruff shape at the time.

I just got back in from checking on the tent. The thing is totally wrecked. While some of the posts are bent, and could probably be bent back "good enough" there are others that are snapped in half.

I washed and put the cover back on it, but I still have to figure out what I'm going to do next. I might have to just buy another one and roll the dice again.

It was killing me even just keeping it in the tent because it was still outside, but the GTO gets the garage right now.

One other thing, with the car in the tent I had the hood up, so the wind must have gotten a hold of that because I couldn't shut the hood again. I gave the latch and the hinges a quick adjustment, and it is still pretty far off but it's going to have to do for now.

Where the hell is Friday?!?!?!

That sucks TJ. I hope you get a fix soon.
Good luck bud.

I'm hoping to build a two car addition onto my current garage, but if it gets built before the end of 2012, that would be a minor miracle.

I can probably afford to build a one car addition by the end of 2011, but I know if I don't go with two bays instead, I'll probably be kicking myself in the arse for years to come. When all is said and done though, it's all going to come down to what I can actually afford.

Some people say I hold onto too much stuff, but it paid off this time!

I just found the parts and assembly manual for the tent (it was in my toolbox). I called the manufacturer earlier this morning and they are going to send me a parts price quote and order form.

I was able to break it all down today and see that I only need to replace 10 posts. It suffered a few rips too, but that's nothing some duct tape can't fix. This should be a lot cheaper than the $400.00+ it would cost to replace the whole thing.

Good deal TJ!
Good luck.

Today just as I was leaving for work, UPS showed up with my replacement parts. hopefully tomorrow morning I can get the thing all put back together (a 10' x 20' tent isn't going to be easy with one person) and get the Camaro out of the elements again.

I'm a little nervous though, because this is going to be the first winter in about 15 years that the car will be kept outside for the season. It's no showcar but this year was the first time since probably the early 90's that the car spent more than a month not in a garage. I have a funny feeling that I'll be spending more time shovelling snow off the roof of the tent, than I will off my sidewalk:willy:

Yeah, that sucks TJ. I hope it's not windy tomorrow for the tent build. Check the local weather. Good luck man!

Ya Pete, I know.

I told more than a couple friends that if it got damaged bad, I would have just finally dropped it off to you so you could "do it right". I figured that by the time it would have been done, I might have finally had a garage to put it in.

And now that I said that, don't you go getting any ideas:rofl:
