We work on setting up alot cars on my four post lifts.. We do plumbing, exhaust, sheetmetal assembly & etc... The tire some times gets in the way of doing fab work with welding & we want to keep the rims from getting damaged.. So we ended up designing some wheel stands

We are looking @ enhancing the design some more so that we can have some more uses for them..

I want to thank Ben Hermance for doing my logo & having it on file as a DXF so that we can incorporate it to some of the work we are doing around here..

Getting quotes on a CNC plasma cutter!! If I get this machine.. The sky is the limit our fab work!!

I had a CNC plasma table. I just recently sold it.
Its not as nice as a laser cutter. Also you won't be able to cut your logo that small and have it look as nice.

What brand of Plasma table was it?

it was a 5'x5' PlasmaCam table.

You can also find people making stuff on craigs that has one.
Take a look at one in use, and see what its capable of.

if I can get a few guys intrested in them I could do a lot of them & can offer them for a fair price... Of course they are cheaper without the logo.. I can also offer them where you can weld them yourself.. I will look into it Scott & PM you..

That's a good product idea, for sure. Plus, by selling them unwelded, you can ship them flat.... (and also avoid having to be "accountable" for how strongly they are put together).

Very nice Cris, but I would only sell them WITH your logo. Remember in you brand image is worth something and it shows when someone starts making them in China. I have seen some work done on those plasma tables and you can do lost of cool stuff; but what about a water jet?? I sure you are looking ALOT more money BUT then the SKY is really the limit, Just a thought on spending your money :lol:

We used to use the CNC Plasma cutter back in school quite a bit, great tool. It was great for rapidly producing pieces, and your imagination is your only limit.

I saw this tool recently and was impresses with its detail:


With something like that you could pump out personalized parts rapidly, and really make some money.

Ill have to stop by some time, I graduated the GM training program, but I had 2 years of CNC training as well, could chat your ear off about CNC.

Im interested in some. You could set them on wheel cradles and roll car around shop if needed. Alot of uses!

Paying attention huh! Lets just say that 4th Camaro has great location for rack n pinion & lower control arms... More to come when I have something layed out..


The only reason I would offer them unwelded is that I can keep cost down & alot easier to ship..

I agree with the logo but when I was getting these quoted for water jet cutting it keep the price up their..

The reason I would want a plasma is cause it alllows me to design something real quick in CAD & then feed it to the plasma for cutting.. Right now we design something & it has go to quote, can take about 1 day for turn around to a week.. it delays work.. Water jet or laser equipment is not cheap & it takes up room in the shop..

I've just finished designing my rear suspension which includes a number of axle brackets. I sent out a test with the same DXF to get cut by water jet and cnc plasma.

As expected the plasma does have quite a bit looser tolerances. For some things the tolerances won't matter so much, however it can cause issues for things such as bolt holes. In my test, it looks like I'll have to under size the holes a little and ream them out myself once the parts are cut.

I had really high hopes for the CNC plasma, since I'm thinking of purchasing a small table for personal use. Unfortunately I was a little disappointed. IMO, a plasma table is nice for prototyping, but for production work I'd probably still lean toward using a partner with a laser/water jet.

Thanks for the info! I have been holding off on buying a CNC plasma till I get more info... I would not use it for tight tolerance pcs.. would rather laser or water jet... developing a good working relationship with my vendor that does water jet cutting in my area.. The CNC plasma would be great for quick pcs that need to be made that we need radius or trianglulation... If it were up to me .. We would CNC mill everything but that is expensive compared to water jet, plasma, or laser..

Cris.. they look great. I know we always have clearance problems with the 4 post lifts too. Have you ever run into a problem using them on the rear both sides at the same time ?
I would think that if running a posi or locker that one side would not be a problem but having both sides line up to the appropriate lug pattern would be difficult. A small price to pay for the luxury of not working around tires i guess :lol:

i just bought a CNC plasma , i will let you know how it works . mine should be here in about 3 weeks . i want it for making 1off brackets and parts , i will continue to use a laser for more than 1 part
