Velocity at Barrett Jackson

Some of you have heard me mention that we are taking Velocity to the Barrett Jackson auction in Scottsdale in January. Well, I have gotten my lot #...1278...Saturday night prime time!

http://www.ridetech.com/massmail/nov...lack-friday-2/

We are currently busy "restoring" Velocity for its new owner...whoever it may be. Fresh engine, complete disassembly and cleaning, complete paint touch up and polish...everything will be fresh and ready to drive and race again.
I hate to part with this car, but in reality Velocity has accomplished everything that we intended it to do...and then some. We built it to showcase our air suspension systems and to develop and debut our stainless TigerCage line. In the course of doing that we were priveliged to get coverage in 7 national magazines, on the cover of 4 of them, and compete successfully in literally hundreds of autocross and road course events.
Time to make room for the new project. [I'll bet you thought I was going to tell you what that is, didn't you!]
As we get closer I'll have even more information about the car on our Velocity page on the website, and will obviously be happy to answer any questions about it here, by email, or by phone.
Look for us on Speed in January!

Good luck with the sale.

One of my favorite rides. It sure did get a lot of media attention(all over the place), and rightfully so. I wish you and your team the best of luck with the auction.

Good luck Bret!

I'll toss a bump bid in there for ya if it needs it!

Good number buddy! Not sure how you got that but you must be living real well! :unibrow:

Awesome Camaro Bret, hopefully it will bring good money for ya. I'll make sure to watch for it when I'm out there. Be curious to see what new project you start.:unibrow:

Not planning on changing anything...just freshening up. I have run this thing hard for a couple of years now and want to make sure the new owner has no reason to call me...except to let me take a nostalgic lap or two in it!

I will get the components sheet from Sunset Racecraft and post it on the Velocity page shortly.

MarkM66 12-03-2010 11:34 AM

Is BJ going to put some pics of the car on their website or what?

If you really want top dollar, put a rear spoiler on it, ;) .

Doh. Did I miss this crossing the block or did they not show it? I am changing a power steering box on my parents S10, but I had noticed that it was in the staging lanes so I kept coming in to watch.

Dang :( .

Congrats guys. Great car  .

They actually showed it! Seems like one of the few that actually made TV.

It's like watching commercials and an auction occasionally interrupts.

Vegas69 01-22-2011 06:31 PM

Wow, congrats man! Only way to sell these high end cars and hit the jackpot. Still not sure if I could stomach it.

 True True.

Good thing I am recording it, that way I can skip the commercials when I do get to watch it.

No doubt! Like your new pic/avatar, looks fast even for a big ass old school block like that.

GregWeld 01-22-2011 09:59 PM

Congrats on a good sale! Way to go Brett!

conekiller13 01-24-2011 09:27 AM

It looked nice going across the block but I was a little disapointed. I was expecting some coments from the Speed crew about the unique stripes. Also with as much magazine coverage as that car had they certainly should have talked about it more.

Am I way off base or should that car have sold for more? The wok I see going into these cars and the cost of parts and all that......$150k doesn't hardly seem like it covers the build. Same with the Roadster shop Chevelle.

My overall impression of this years auction was it looked like a great place to loose a small fortune.

Stuart Adams 01-24-2011 09:51 AM

BJ is a great event. As with anything there are pros and cons. It's still the best place if you want to sell, because it will be sold. Most exposure route for sure. There is always a gamble of selling price, but in 5 minutes you have new ownership, can't beat that.

I see Brett's car differently than almost all others sold there. His car probably sold many times over the parts that he sells. His car was a marketing, part selling assett, and not just a fun car to beat on.

It's all good IMO.

ironworks 01-24-2011 10:02 AM

I would agree with Stuart. Plus I would bet that the money Bret got is about what he had hoped for maybe even more. 99% of the time selling cars means your taking a loss. I saw quite a few cars sell for more then build cost. I thought the selling price of nice stuff was up a considerable amount. But alot of the typical cars were either the same or down a bit.

Check out lot 1342. I can bet these guys are stoked. According to their sales ad they more then doubled there 5 year old money. There are a handful of cars that brought real good money.

http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...&ed=01/22/2011

Kenny and I were discussing this fact, But there is no real direction on what was popular and what was not except quality. But some quality cars got skipped or went cheap.

Now see, lot# 1342 is what I would expect a car with that kind of work done to it to sell for. But I would be quite pissed if I was selling one of those quality cars that went cheap. If I were selling something of that caliber I think I would stick to a reserve auction.

Did youi not read what the guy put in his ad? It says I have a 140,000 invested. And then to turn around and get 300,000. The car is nice it is a 140,000 car not a 300k car.

Check out 956.2, 140k are you serious? Was this Dale Jr's truck?

Check out 1014. Is anything from West Coast Customs worth 132K?

Check out 1240 No way that hunk is worth half that. Maybe this car belonged to Abe Lincoln.

Then you have 1244.2 Are you kidding 88K, This car had it all as far a resume. Maybe not may color or someone else's but 88K. It was built by Boyd. 572 with a Morrison Chassis.

How does 1328.1 go for 71,500 and 1033 go for 181.500?

I'm glad to see numbers coming up for our industry, but if I was going to build a car to sell there I have no idea what it would be. Nothing consistant as far as pricing or style.

96z28ss 01-24-2011 11:33 AM

I think your truck would of gotten good money.

956.2 has a bed floor in it. that alone brings good money.

Plexi-Glass bed floor at that.

kennyd 01-24-2011 11:58 AM

If 1240 brought what it did , then 95% of the cars at streetrod nats are sitting on a goldmine .

1014 west coast customs , the only reason it sold was because of the movie

1244.2 boyd built car ! should have been 2x what it sold for

1328.1 and 1033 both reason not to drink the bong water !

GregWeld 01-24-2011 12:01 PM

Cone killer doesn't understand the auction process.

It's a win some lose some way to sell. You will never be able to figure out why some sell for more or some less.

I will tell you that if you are well connected. There is lots of info on some of the supposed "real deal" cars.... And you won't see the real deal big money buyers bidding on that stuff!!

The prices depend on the time. The day. And whether there's more than one person willing to bid.

I almost crapped when I looked at what the 50 Merc sold for 300K

I looked at this car on EBAY for the last 4 months. The guy had it listed for
80K I tried to get my wife interested but it was a no go!!!
You can say it was a huge win for the lister of the car he made an 200k over what he was going to sell it for on ebay.

Then http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...&aid=403&pop=1 went for 44,000. look who the builders were !!!!

If you can build me a car like this for 35K please call me

&

http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...&aid=403&pop=1 for 51K
Street rodder 2010 top 100 pick.

looks like Barrett Jackson might be a good place to get a Low & Slow led sled

Bj 2011

I agree with the bewilderment over some prices. the 80's pontiac firebird for 82k? (i don't care if sally field got wet on the seat) lot #1302 or a 87 gnx for $77,000? i know they only made 550, but compared to the 1962 falcon lot#1281 for the same money????

lots #1246, 1315, and 1255.2 (silver and a stick easy 50k more!!) were absolute steals!!

why, why? would anyone pay 220k for brett michael's camaro???? God help us!

we seem to have car fatigue after the g-force cuda and trepanier's 2.3 million ford first love. That was 4 years ago at autorama. will 2011 have anything close??

Its not the economy at this level. The rich have gotten infinitely richer from the meltdown/rebound. The top1% pull in 20% of all income. The Nasdaq is back to its 2007 high and even the Dow is back to 12,000.

You don't even hear much about foose these days. It just seems no one with the means is stoked to comission a million+ car

billetman 01-24-2011 06:35 PM

Anyone know of any info on the champagne 32 ford that went for 315k. Its quite a car, but 315k?

How about a Manny, Mo and Jack Special? There were a boat load of cars that looked like they went to Pep Boys and filled a shopping cart with every gaudy chrome accessory in stock and brought in "good" money for what they were. I would say they all made a profit compared to those that should have brought the same money.
