Pics of Dynatech LS first gen camaro headers as requested
Had some requests for pictures of how Dynatech LS headers fit in First gen camaros. They are 3/8 flanges, 4 bolt donut style collector, tig welded and 1 7/8 primaries with 3 inch collectors.
They DO require msd wires or similar, as two cylinders must be rerouted...... but they fit nice and have a ton of ground clearance. Nice thick tubes, high quality material. Very nice polished ceramic coating, done by Nitroplate, not like some of the other brands flat, coarse ceramic..... great value for the price. I don't work for dynatech or anything, just had some requests to show some pics..... Also note, this is installed with ATS motor plates. Those are Speedtech control arms in the pictures, on a stock subframe. These headers also clear speedtech subframes with a rear steer rack. I am not sure about stock subframes with a flaming river rack conversion, but there is a ton of room down there so I am sure they will fit. I also know these headers work Awesome for a tri five chevy ls1 conversion, and also clear a jim meyer tubular control arm and rack conversion for a tri five. http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...rspassside.jpg http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...driverside.jpg http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...dclearance.jpg |
Looks great, Tyler. How close is the #4 primary to the upper control arm?

Headers with a steering box
Anyone have experience using these headers and a 600 steering box? These headers are a really good buy I think.
|
There is a solid 3/4 inch between the control arm and the header. That is without any alignment shims though. But if you need 3/4 inch of alignment shims then how about buying a new subframe!??!??
I have installed them in a speedtech subframe and a 55 belair frame. Both fit nicely. Here is the catch. I made m own motor plates that set the motor back an additional 3/4 from the ats plates, which gives more than enough room for the steering joint on the rack. if the motor sat 3/4 inches farther ahead, you would not be able to use only two u joints and 1 shaft to hook up the rack, you would need a hanger and a third u joint. Other than that, they clear everything else with a bunch of room. I have no experience with rear steer boxes, we have always been selling rack kits. |
Nice! It looks like they would clear a steering box also.

Nice headers, are they 1-3/4" or 1-7/8" ?

1 7/8

I would like to see these too. Have you installed these in any second gen camaros yet? |
There are pics of mine on my photobucket. They will not fit brp mounts and clear the box. I Havent tried them on my 68 with s&p plates.
|
Wondering what part # you used for the MSD wires? I was looking through Summit and they all seemed to have the straight spark plug boot which would hit the #5 and #7 primary tubes on the driver's side.
On a side note, I am running these headers on a 5.3 in a stock subframe with stock power steering and stock upper control arms if anyone wants to see photos of fitment. -John |

I used the transadapt plates and motor mounts (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TRD-4595/).
The pictures don't do the headers justice because my power steering lines are in the way. The headers fit great and they were easy to retrofit to my old big block exhaust. Attachment 31316 Attachment 31317 Attachment 31318 Attachment 31319 There is about 1/2 an inch between the driver's side upper comtrol arm and the primary tube although it's hard to tell from the photos. |
They fit good! I need to trim a small piece of the SBC mounts. I am using the carshop mounts. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/7d9a6f2b.jpg

Update:01/27/12 So i pulled the trigger and bought these. As far as price goes they cannot be beat..they fit very well with my s&p mounts. Clear the steering box with ease the only issue I see if I have to ground a little material off of my drivers engine mount but that no big deal..here are some pictures. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...s/24883e39.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...s/47c6fad9.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...s/00b96ffb.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...s/b1631b1b.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...s/ae05488f.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...s/90385641.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...s/6544518b.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...s/4ae69e09.jpg |

I know Dynatech has been working hard to determine fitment and the document in the link below holds the latest information. If you have questions you can call them and they will try to help.
