Roadster Shop's 70 Chevelle - Back in Black

Well, we have decided to send our 70 Chevelle through Barrett-Jackson to find its new owner and let some one else have as much fun with it as we have had. While it is definitely sad to see this one go, we have to make room for the next build for the 2011 season featuring our new Fast Track Chassis and Suspension system. It looks like we have a prime time spot Saturday night so bid early and bid often! ;-)

We decided to freshen everything up on the car including the color. While the bright green was definitely recognizable and did it's job, it simply was not for everyone. After much debate, we have decided on a color that is more mainstream and will appeal to a wider audience.

Here is the revised rendering. There will be a few minor changes from the rendering, but this should give you the idea. (The wheels will most likely have brushed hoops w/o pinstriping and we are trying to decide on painting the bumpers matte or gloss to match the body.)

kennyd 12-21-2010 03:39 PM

whats up with the bubbletop on the lift ?

I liked the green, but the black and that paint scheme is KILLER! Very nice.
GLWS.

Northeast Rod Run 12-21-2010 05:36 PM

I never did like the green, but it did stand out as a marketing tool. that black set-up looks awesome!

GregWeld 12-21-2010 05:42 PM

So much better!

Now forget the red/orange stripping - just let it be a Chevelle - black and nasty to the max... :D

I like the mat on the bumpers - and maybe a couple other places - hood etc but without the pin stripping.

BJ will be "interesting" this year.... we'll all get a tell on where prices are headed... flat - up - or down. My hope is up a bit!

GregWeld 12-21-2010 05:44 PM

Forgot to finish my "thoughts"....

It's easy for someone to ADD stripping - or colors/mats etc.... but at an auction --- you want to appeal to the widest possible audience you can. Sometimes that means less is more.

XcYZ 12-21-2010 08:19 PM

I'm really digging the black with red.

ProdigyCustoms 12-21-2010 09:17 PM

Very wise move. The green was very "personalized". Swing for the fence!

waynieZ 12-21-2010 09:42 PM

The black looks great.

MarkM66 12-22-2010 06:07 AM

Very cool car, probably one of the best pro touring '70 Chevelles around.

The dash and interior is really well done. :hail:

I agree with Greg, and keep the red pinstripes off, especially on the wheels. I'd like inner fenders too.

Good luck.

RPM HOTRODS 12-22-2010 10:11 AM

Loving the black! Why change the wheels? I would just brush the outer hoops.

Yeah, it is going to be like that.... but nice! (j/k, that thing is bad a$$)

I saw how well the Firebird did and figured that black cars bring the big bucks

The WidowMaker 12-22-2010 07:10 PM

damn, id love to be able to afford a quality paint job, let alone a quality reshoot. looks good!

RPM HOTRODS 12-23-2010 06:30 AM

Why is everyone worried about the bubbletop when the mystery machine is in the background.

kennyd 12-23-2010 06:48 AM

Phil, is that Dean in there with red hair?

protour73 12-23-2010 07:37 AM

Personally I love the red pinstripe with the black, Phil.

Maybe it's just the lack of some details in the rendering but I detect an absence of door handles? Are you shaving them?

The matte on the hood and bumpers is a nice touch too. You guys do some incredible work in that shop. I will have to drive the Camaro up there in the spring since you guys are so close to me.

Do you think that the repaint will hurt the price of the car? The only reason I say that is because the buyers will know it is not the original paint and it was a reshoot over another paint job. Unless you did it differently than I am thinking.

I don't think anything the Roadster Shop does would hurt the price of a car.

conekiller13 12-23-2010 08:49 AM

I very much like the black.......it's the best color option......that's why my cars are black, my bike is black, my guitar is black.....:cheering:

Anyway, they only way I can the respray hurting the value is because the car was a bit iconic in the green.....love it or hate it the green stood out. If your a potential buyer thinking "I want that car I saw in the Magazines!" then you may be a bit disappointed. However if your the guy thinking man I want that car but that color.....ughhh......well than it's perfect.

I think the stripes are understated enough to be attractive with out being obnoxious.

Well, we did not do the Maco scuff-and-shoot approach on this car, so I don't think the color change will have any negative effect on the price. We are getting close to 400 hours in the paint job to make sure that it is absolutely perfect.

Thanks man! We were a little concerned about losing the iconic value of the car, but it was such a love it or hate it color that we felt leaving it green might hurt the sale of the car more than it would help.

Door handles are staying. While a cleen black Chevelle does look good, this just is not that car. If it had stock bumpers/trim, stockish interior... I would definitely say straight black would be the way to go. With everything done to the car, I think a straight black paint job would look like we left something out. It definitely needs the matte finnishes and red accents.

Do you have a version with shiney center ? Shiney wheels look good up on stage.

clill 12-24-2010 06:44 PM

And I really like that van...

RPM HOTRODS 12-24-2010 09:00 PM

That damn thing was the green from the mystery machine. I can't believe I never put the two together...... Now that it is black whats next Bat Mobile or Night Rider. You guys are always on top of your game!!!!

1badchevelle 12-25-2010 10:46 PM

Im loving the grill. Will that be made in house or is someone making them already.

How many hours will you be into the new paint/body when it's done with the changes?

Killer car in black or green!

Roadster Shop 12-30-2010 03:49 PM

Yeah black definitely can't be beat when it is clean....

We were thinking a red stripe to match the calipers. It shows up red on the original rendering, but looks more orange when posted here???

GoolsbyCustoms 12-30-2010 03:56 PM
