1966 Mustang Restomod
We are starting a new project. It is a nice 66 Mustang Coupe with a 289 and automatic. We will be adding Rod & Custom coilover front suspension, rear disc brakes, Procar Elite seats, Flaming river steering wheel and column, and steel style wheels with BFG tires. The owner bought it in 1980 and was painted and the engine rebuilt about 10 years ago.
Here is what we are starting with http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/04.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/07.jpg We received a few parts before Christmas http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/01.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/03.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/02.jpg |
Today I removed the front end. Next step remove the engine and trans.

Looking good so far. All those goodies should be a drastic improvement in how the car performs. Are you staying with the leaf rear and auto tranny?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/50.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/51.jpg Bodywork is finished was going to epoxy prime again but the temperature dropped below 60 and it is to cold to spray epoxy. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/52.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/53.jpg |
Nice work!
|
Great work Rusty. Looking real good.
|
We took the engine apart today and I can't believe how clean it is.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/54.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/55.jpg I also epoxy primed the fender aprons and block sanded them. I found a few low spots so I added a little more filler than block it out. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/57.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/58.jpg |
Very cool Rusty.
That engine does look really clean. Wow. |
looks great..
|
Epoxy primed the engine compartment and the firewall this time
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/75.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/74.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/76.jpg |

Installing the front brakes and master cylinder
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/87.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/88.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/89.jpg |
that is a great starting point in that car!
|
Lot of taping to paint the dash
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/91.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/93.jpg Dashboard is now black http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/96.jpg Installed the rear seat and new rear speakers http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/97.jpg To keep the engine compartment clean we are running the wires outside the fender aprons. Brian drilled a couple of holes to hold the clamps and than used plastic clips that will be under the fender so you won't see anything. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...20Coupe/99.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...0Coupe/100.jpg |
|
Test fitting the Flaming River steering column and wheel
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...0Coupe/115.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...0Coupe/117.jpg |
We have the engine installed and are waiting for a set of headers. The first set we had would not clear the steering.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...0Coupe/121.jpg |
That looks sweet in there.
|
looks very clean....you just have to paint that cap to match the orange plug boots
|
It looks like a Mustang again.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...0Coupe/124.jpg We are still waiting for a few parts to finish this project. The first set of headers did not clear the steering so we ordered a set for a fox body. |
