Suspension pics
Got the front suspension bolted together pretty much. At least gives an idea of how the DSE coil-overs and a-arms will look. Should finish the color-sanding and buffing of the body this weekend and will be able to get the car back on the ground.

control arms
Great choice of color on the control arms. Very nice contrast. Are you going to do your sway bar grey as well?

The sway bar is the same color. Mike, those are the DSE lower arms also, I just had uppers and lowers powder-coated a different color than what DSE coats them in. Was going to be too much black. Thanks guys, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Jody |
That thing is beautiful Jody!!! I have a tear in my eye.Happy,Happy,Joy.

Paint
Can we see a sneak peek of the body.Love to see the 2 tone?? Please, just a peek?

There is no two-tone to give you a peek of. The flat black hockey stripes will be painted on after the body is buffed and assembled. That's the only real way to ensure the lines match up. I'm nowhere near that yet. I should have some pics of buffed areas this weekend. Jody |
The car is looking great. Any plans for painting the undercarriage?
|
The bottom of the car, firewall, dash, roll bar are all eggshell satin black. The exterior is gloss black.

That is gonna be a great looking car, good work Jody!!

Beautiful, and inspirational. Did the UCA's come bare for you to powdercoat? I've been going with a charcoal metallic powdercoat theme (valve covers, manifold, brackets, etc.) for contrast.

satin black
jody, are you guys using a single stage paint for the stripe?? sometimes after time and buffing they turn white. however standox and spies hecker is making a semi gloss clear coat, that can be buffed and works awesome, i doubted it until i tried it, its all i will use from now on

I was going to go with a single stage. I guess the only disadvantage of a matt clearcoat is that it will make the thickness a little more, but the extra protection may very well be worth it. Jody |
Jody, why paint it flat black when the car is already black? I think I would just mask it off and use a semi gloss clear.

semi gloss
jody, and muscle
its too late to just use semi gloss clear as the black base has already been cleared with regular clear coat. however once masked off i would apply regular black base coat, then semi gloss clear, and the results will be awesome, plus hold up so much better than single stage which has way of turning white after buffing and being out in sun for awhile. spies hecker and standox offer the semi gloss clear i know, others i am sure do, but i use standox and i know it works great. i would look into it as you are building this car right. also just a thought but it may work by just applying semi gloss clear over current clear in stripe area, but i am unsure and would ask paint rep if it would work, i know applying a coat or 2 of reg black base then semi gloss clear you will end up with the results you want jake |
Jake,
my suggestion was the last half of your statement. Once the car had been polished, tape off the stripe, scuff the paint, and apply a semi gloss clear. It should yield the same results as rebasing without the paint build up. I would wait a couple weeks so the gloss clear underneath does not migrate into the semi as it cures and glossen the stripe. Jody, I hope to get to see the car on the Power Tour. I plan to be there at this point. If I was doing another Camaro it would be a black on black on black as well. I even thought as going as far as black hard anodizing the all aluminum motor with just accents of bright work all over the car. Mike |
Thanks guys, I'm going to pursue that option and see if it will work. Would make it more of a ghost stripe and could be buffed I believe without hurting it like the flat black stripe in black.
Jody |
Car looks great. I really like how you fitted the doors.
