2nd Chance Camaro - Let the Project Begin
2nd Chance Camaro - Let the Project Begin
Let the Project Begin Posted: Jan 13, 2011 www.2ndchancecamaro.com After some time off I've decided to jump back into it full steam ahead and not look back. Carter Hickman and I have been talking about this car for over 2 years now and it's finally time that I start sharing the pictures and the build up of what should be a pretty cool car. The goal with this car is to build a car that anyone can build but of course put all of my little idea's into that will set it apart from the crowd. My goal is to teach you what I have learned from my last build www.syborgtwinturbo.com and show you how to save money or in some instances and spend more just because you "need " to have the coolest parts on the planet. The platform for the this build is of course a 1970 Camaro. Why because parts are readily available and that is important if your building on a budget. The goal would be to find the cleanest car you can find and one that needs the least amount of body work. That being said Ron Wilson from www.hoodpins.net helped me find this little gem in California. He has had a long history with the car and it seems like a pretty solid car. more to come..... http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8adf8da-me.jpg Since Ron new the last two owners they were able to dig up some pictures of the car from what we think was the early 90's. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2772246-me.jpg Please remember this under hood shoot. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...afb50ae-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...fd05861-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6c8c0c3-me.jpg Pictures hosted by www.garagescene.net |

Sweet project. I'm looking forward to watching it come together.
This takes me back. My 18th birthday/graduation present was a 70 Camaro that looked just like this (minus the rear spoiler, and in an ugly school bus shade of yellow)! Quote:

Holy crap Marty, you FINALLY started this darn build thread!!! This Camaro was a great choice, because it is pretty damn clean. NOTHING was rusted together on this car, I was amazed!!! It was a lot of fun helping out with the beginning of the disassembly of this project. I can't wait until you get to the point where all of the shiney stuff starts to goes on.
This is going to be one of my favorite builds, another 2nd Gen gets a new life!!! Carter's rendering is pretty sick too!! Call me, I'm always available to help you out (as long as we can have lunch at that awesome Taco joint!!!) (pssst, post some more pics) |

2nd Chance Camaro - Finding the Right Camaro
Finding the Right Camaro Posted: Jan 19, 2011 www.2ndchancecamaro.com Looking back at old pictures is always fun. What is really cool is when you fast forward 18 years and some things haven't changed. This is true for the 70 Camaro Ron from www.hoodpins.net was able to locate for me. I know in the last pictures the car was cream in color and this picture it's blue. Shortly after Doug (2nd owner) brought the car home he repainted it and swapped in a 383 Stroker motor. Here is a picture of the car after he repainted it looks pretty good. picture from 1992 http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5f7194d-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4e67fa5-me.jpg A quick call to Jam'e at Browns Auto Transport and the pick was scheduled. Like I previous said some things never change. Eighteen years later and here is what the car looked like getting ready to get loaded on a trailer and make it way back to the Midwest. First thing I thought of when I saw this picture was I really need to go rent the movie "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" again. Hey, it's a cult classic .... http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2d0968c-me.jpg 48 Hours later and the great people from Browns Auto Transport showed up at my work to deliver the car. The drivers first comment to me was, "man is the floor in this car solid." http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...cb56bde-me.jpg Not much has changed under this car from the day it was delivered and that was exactly what I was looking for. It does however have a really nice 3" dual Exhaust. Anyone need a complete dual exhaust & headers for a small block 2nd gen. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d7c9341-me.jpg Brought the car home - Opps forget to tell the wife. Remember it's easier to ask for forgiveness then permission. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8a9a323-me.jpg Looks like I have to pick which one I am going to work on first. One option would be sell Ron the Green one and I build the blue one with Kenny. Should be fun and Interesting. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a1a44d5-me.jpg So what are the build plans -- you ask. What is it going to look like when it's complete? You are going to have to watch this build closely and you will find out. At least you can tell that it will have Billet Specialties wheels on it. Here is the last and final rendering that Carter from Carter Hickman Design did for me & Kenny. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d021d8a-me.jpg I can tell you this car is going to have the new Ride Tech Coil Over Suspension on it and it's pretty awesome. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c1f8042-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8d17850-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d70ab9b-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b1d71c2-me.jpg Pictures hosted by www.garagescene.net |
Wow. Very nice Marty.
Should be killer. |
Really looking forward to seeing this car come togather.:thumbsup:Scott
|
Looks like it's going to be another awesome 2nd gen:thumbsup:
|
Now you have two nice Camaros. Looks like a nice project.
|

The Teardown has finally started
2nd Chance Camaro - The Teardown has finally started [RIGHT]
The Teardown has finally started Posted: Feb 09, 2011 www.2ndchancecamaro.com In order to keep the back half of my garage heated a couple years ago I installed a Curtain Wall. This has probably been one of the best "Garage" investments I have made to date. Especially when my wife starts the cars in the front half of the garage and leave's the door open for 15 minutes. The back half stays nice and warm. I may even install an Air conditioning unit this summer. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...edf89a1-me.jpg When I am in the garage working on the car or one of the bikes hanging from the ceiling I slide the curtain to the side and I am back to an 800 square foot garage. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c98a6e4-me.jpg Couple pictures of the interior before the tear down. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ffe189b-me.jpg Little help from my nephew Jake. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c0ab4c8-me.jpg Quick look at the Engine Bay. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...65a8e92-me.jpg This is one of those special hood adjusters http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0ba6ac8-me.jpg Found a couple bare wires under the hood. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a19ccee-me.jpg When Jake removed the battery tray we founds some rust. Looks like I will need a new inner fender. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...30f7a6f-me.jpg Hey Big Al - does this shirt look familiar. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...7965cb8-me.jpg I've never liked Alarm Systems so may wires and they still steal the car. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1f454bf-me.jpg Temporary starter switch. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...da30417-me.jpg The floors look great can't wait to see what the rest of the car looks like. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...21cd06c-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3fa7baf-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...743f9e3-me.jpg |
and here is what's left after a long night working in the garage.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...6fddc0e-me.jpg The seats look to be recently recovered. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3173521-me.jpg I've been collecting parts for the last couple years. Last year my good friend Morgan introduced me to John & Josh. Josh owns Precision billet concepts and he built these pedals for 2nd gen Camaro's and Firebirds. When I saw them I fell in love and just had to have the full set up. From E-Brake to Gas pedal I even purchased the clutch master just in case I end up installing a manual transmission. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f911999-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...deaff3b-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...6e07601-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...bf56587-me.jpg Pictures hosted by www.garagescene.net |
Wow wow wow. Floors look like a little clean up and you're good!
Love those pedals and master, btw.... |
You got lucky to get those pedals. I ordered a set and after 8 weeks I canceled my order. I don't think they are around anymore.
|
Marty,Look's like your going to have an awesome 2nd.gen build:thumbsup: Scott
|
That garage looks familiar - is there a garage build thread around here for that?
That curtain looks VERY familiar... |
