69 Vette - Killer II Project Thread
I purchased 69myway's Killer II project back in March '10. Throughout the summer, progress was slow but now the project has started gaining more momentum so I figured I would share.
The basics of the project are: '69 Corvette Convertible L88 Flares and Hood L18 496 Big Block FI, AC, Cruise Richmond 6sp VB&P Suspension Some background on what was completed by 69myway: McSpeed.com http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...I/IMAG0206.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...I/IMAG0205.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...I/IMAG0146.jpg The L18 is a big block with LSx DNA so I decided I would make the L18 look similar to an LSx by smoothing the aluminum intake and wrinkle coating black. Once I get my new garage going, I will fabricate some FRC's to fit the massive valve covers. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...I/IMAG0159.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...I/IMAG0161.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...I/IMAG0181.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...I/IMAG0189.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...I/IMAG0191.jpg The body work has begun! Tim Bragg of D&D Classic Restoration is my body man. He has been making quite a bit of progress since November. The car has been painted at least 4 times taht we can tell. 3 times red and once silver. This time around, it will be black  http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...r%20II/102.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...r%20II/105.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...r%20II/116.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...r%20II/117.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...r%20II/093.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...orvette005.jpg |
I was wondering what had happened to this project, good to see that it is getting completed. Plans for wheels/tires?
|
I've have been wondering the same thing. I would like to do something different than the original car but I can't seem to find the right set. Any suggestions? Sizes should be in the neighborhood of 295/18 front and 335/18 rear but there are not many brands to choose from.

Those flares are super cool. Cant wait to see it on paint.

Oh MAN! That all over primer looks sweeeeet!
I'm jealous. I really hope I get to go for a spin in the Modern Rat once it has a windshield and all in.... I miss that project...but I do have a finished basement to show for having giving it up! LOL At least the whole family can pile in the basement and hang out while it is -5 degrees outside. We'll get that a/c system together once the slick stuff is on and together! Keep the updates coming - I'm subscribed!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
It looks great all one color. Sweet project.
|
Man this is just pushing me more towards wanting to do a C3 project. I never got into body work when I was repairing/modifying these cars but I've wanted to. I love the chrome bumper cars but think a late c3 can look amazing when done right. There are so many late c3s that need body work done for a cheap price. This just might push me over the edge, lol.
Keep up the good work and keep the pictures coming. |
Congrats, Brad. Glad to see it making progress. I look forward
to see it pounding the streets this summer....maybe. Nice talking with you earlier... Glad you started a build thread here--very cool site. Looks "killer" just seeing it all one color even if it is primer...:D  John |
Thanks for the comments guys! I should be able to get some more pics this weekend, hopefully. Ill make sure I keep the thread up to date.
Chris- You know you'll get a ride! I can't wait to drive the hell out of this thing. You know I'm not much into garage queens... On a side note, do you remember if the metal vents on the deck lid where in the boxes? I didnt run across them when I was looking for painted parts. If I have to pick up some used ones, are they any different from coupe to convertable? I can't find any listed in the paragon or eckler's catalogue. |
Brad I just don't remember about the vents. I seem to have a memory of seeing and handling them - but it is foggy.
Coupe/Vert - a/c, or non - the vent should all be the same. They are actually a cast metal part and very heavy. |
A little update for anyone who is following. The car is now all in urethane primer. It will be blocked one more time and ready for color. The doors and cover are do for one more blocking and they will be ready. Before color though, the engine bay and firewall will be finished and smoothed to a point. I want some original detail but most of the holes, bolts, and studs will go along with the AC access panel. It will all get finished in satin black.

Good on you getting that body straight. I know it takes a lot of work! Here's some 18"+ wheel ideas I've seen on C3's :

Thanks for the comments guys! Its coming to togther pretty smooth so far. We're shooting for beginning of April for completion.
As far as wheels are concerned, I feel that the wheel ca make or break the car. I have been struggling a little in that department as I can be pretty indecisive sometimes. I am certainly open to suggestions! I want something diffrent than Killer I but it has to be clean and smooth yet aggressive... |
Looks really good, can't wait to see'er finished!
|
Awesome project. I love the C3 body style.
|
By the way, I have part I and II of the 8.1 swap from the magazine up on-line

I believe I have found the wheels I want. I've been looking at them for a few days now. I need some backspace measurements before I can order though so I'll I need to make another road trip up to see the car...

Looks good Chris, although the text is a little jumbled on my screen. Is it just my screen setting? Its still readable for me but not super clear.

Wow!:wow: Those are nice! Vintage wheel works? What sizes will they be? Car looks amazing, Brad. Congrats! Can't wait to see it.... John |
Yes, Vintage Wheel Works V48. They will be 17's all around. I considered a staggered 17 & 18 combo but I like a little more sidewall in the back for looks plus Michigan roads equals 17's in this case. I want to take some final measurements before I order the wheels but they shouldn't take long to come in. The tech guy for VWW told me they should ship in 48 hours. The headers and exhaust are at Aesthetic Finishers.

Its great to see more people fixing nice c3s make me want to fix one .Car looks great in black and those wheels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
