Roadster Shop Projects

I've been wanting to do this for some time, and I finally had the time to gather up a few pictures of other non pro-touring stuff we have been working on. So, here is a wrap up of what we have been up to for the past month.

57 Chevy Convertible on a Roadster Shop Fast Track chassis. This one is sort of a blend of performance and original restoration. It has our performance chassis, 510 HP LS3 from Turn Key Engines, TKO 5-speed, 14" Wilwoods, 19's and 20x12's out back. But it will retain all stock trim and have the appearance of a stock car. We changed the LS injection over to a carb style intake manifold with a throttle body on top. It will have a stock themed 57 air cleaner on top of that to keep it looking some what original under the hood. It is in paint right now and will be assembled shortly.

This one I will have to actually start a build thread as soon as I can organize all of the pictures. quick details... 67 Chevelle on a Roadster Shop Chevelle Chassis. Aluminum 572 with a Bowler 4L85. 18x10 and 20x12 Forgelines (mock up wheels on it right now) A lot of unique metal work has been done to the car.c Should be pretty cool once completed. We are hoping to have it out to upholstery by the end of March.

We also have gotten into some of the higher end new car tuner stuff which is pretty cool. We completed a few BMW's that were delivered in December and January.

2009 M3 - Full carbon fiber wide body kit, and painted the car matte green. (Not our choice, but it actually turned out pretty sick when it was completed.)

2008 M6 - Carbon hood, lower splitter, and rear spoiler. 2-toned the top of the car black.

We have a few early 30's hot rod projects going as well. unfortunately, 2 of the more detailed cars we have to keep under wraps at the owner's requests.

Here is a Speed 33 with some custom metal work.

Nice work! The matte green beemer is awesome!

GNon18s 02-06-2011 11:17 PM

Yea, the matte green looks pretty cool. I also love the large diameter wire wheels on the roadster! I like when people take chances and think outside the box.

Flash68 02-06-2011 11:21 PM

That matte green M3 is sick. The "flares" make it resemble a CLK Black Series IMO.

Bow Tie 67 02-07-2011 05:41 AM

I like the green also, the only thing missing is a couple of 50 cals for rush hour.

Awesome project's.Please keep sharing more photo's. Scott

Looove the M3, and the metal work on the 33 is very nice. Curious about that Econoline(?) in the background??? :unibrow:

garickman 02-07-2011 08:56 AM

Would love to see more pics of the chevelle. Is the rear going to look like the Brockmeyer rendering you use to have on your website?

waynieZ 02-07-2011 09:57 AM

I didn't think I would like the green BMW but it looks great ,so does the silver and blak one. The Chevelle looks nice too but I didn't expect anything else from you guys.

Roadster Shop 02-08-2011 10:50 AM

Sorry about the pictures being down. I uploaded a bunch of pics and it exceeded the bandwidth on my photo hosting account. Should be good to go now! Thanks for the emails and the heads up on the photo problems.

Roadster Shop 02-08-2011 11:16 AM

Yeah, the M3 is pretty wicked. It was really hard to pull the trigger on painting an entire car matte green. The matte finish is hard to layout and it can't be sanded or buffed after. But it looks bitchen now that it is completed. We were thinking that it might need a big white star on the door to complete the army look!:D but the machine gun would be more fun!

The Chevelle is going to bs the Brockmeyer rendering from our website. I'll try to get a thread on this car going this week.

The econoline is a funny shop project that has been thrown on the back burner for a few years. It was going to be a parts truck built in a 1970's van theme jacked up in the back with Cragers, side pipes, heavy heavy metal flake, octagon rear window, etc...

SickSpeedMonte 02-08-2011 12:41 PM

Thanks for sharing the pictures!

I like the M3 too. I was actually thinking about doing my '93 K3500 DRW CCLB in a matte green similar to that, with some gloss black 19.5's. Kinda like a (albeit slightly) modernized CUCV. I work for the Army, so I guess that's where I get it from. Might see about wrapping it instead of paint though.

Josh69 02-08-2011 03:53 PM

What kind of wheels are those on the M3? I used to be heavy into the BMW mod scene, ran a forum like this a few years ago....I can see they still love their wide-bodies. :_paranoid

xtreme 02-08-2011 04:54 PM

Lets see some pics of that dodge charger project you guys have going on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tones2SS 02-08-2011 06:26 PM

Great stuff guys. Good to see you doing both old school and new school cars. Awesome work. Keep us posted.

Here are a few cool pics of the chassis shop that I was able to take last night after hours. Been extremely busy on the chassis side and we have a few exciting new products coming out very soon.

Here are a few custom chassis that we just completed in the last few weeks.

This is a real wild chassis that we built for a 1966 Lincoln Continental being built RPM Hot Rods. Plans called for a big HP LS7 and the stock unibody design and limited options for suspension wouldn't fit the bill.

http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture14824.jpg

http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture14801.jpg

We also made a custom version of our Fast Track suspension to accommodate an air bag set up with external shock.

That shop is awesome! :hail:

Another unique chassis build... a 1953 Dodge Meadowbrook Wagon. This is one of 4 chassis we have built for a customer that has a little different taste than most. He has a collection of rare cars that are built in somewhat of a resto-mod theme. All are 100% stock appearing, with stock engines, interiors, exterior, trim, and must sit at a stock ride height. The mechanicals of the cars are then hot rodded... all of the engines are built to 400 + HP, 5 or 6 speed transmissions are installed, and since there are generally no aftermarket suspension options available for these cars, we build one-off chassis for them.

This one would be sick as is, slammed with big steelies and white walls, but the owner is into the stock ride height look.

http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture13490.jpg

http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture13494.jpg

Here are the frame rails being built. We had to build a jig specific to the shape of these rails that keeps them true while welding.

http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture13991.jpg

Completed chassis with the original 6 banger in place.

http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture14646.jpg

Painted, completed frame installed under the car.

And here is a custom 1970 Challenger Chassis being built with our Fast Track IFS. This is the same type of chassis will be under the 2011 Good Guys Give Away Challenger.

The chassis is mocked up at ride height and tacked together on a flat frame table. From here it will go into a fixtured jig for final welding in order to keep the chassis squared and true.
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture14742.jpg

http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture14741.jpg

All bends are fabricated so there are no wrinkled areas that you would get from bending square tube.

http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture14735.jpg

Low profile frame rails and center crossmember so a 3" drop can be built into the floor in order to retain headroom.

you guys do some amazing work... and thats the cleanest shop i have ever seen lol

Sieg 02-09-2011 08:05 AM

+1 on the shop. Class operation, from the projects I've seen so far they're deserving of a museum.

strtcar 02-09-2011 08:24 AM

Man great looking pics, I'd love to get a tour one day, I'm local hint hint.

tones2SS 02-09-2011 06:07 PM

Wow. Awesome pics. Glad to hear that you guys are staying busy. Shop looks great.

A couple summers ago a Mac tool guy told me about an open house or a Roadster Day at your shop . Anything like that still going on ?
Body man by trade ... Id really like to see some stuff in person .

Like a bug drawn to a bug zapper ...

Roadster Shop 02-09-2011 07:20 PM

I've been holding out on these because they were either not pro-touring, or didn't really warrant a full build thread. The idea of doing a shop update seemed like a great way to show all of the other stuff going on around the shop.

We try very hard to keep the shop and all of the projects looking the way they do. It has definitely helped productivity having specific spots for everything and having a clutter free work area.

Anytime you are in the area definitely stop by and I'll show you around the shop. Ask for Bryan or me (Phil) and let us know you are a Lateral-G memeber and I'll be happy to show you around.

We currently do not have anything planned for an open house. We wanted to do something last year, but really ran out of time. We'll try to plan something this year and will definitely post details when we make our final decisions.

WSSix 02-09-2011 07:53 PM

That Lincoln is sick! I love it. I'll have to keep my eyes on the car as it gets built.

Don't you mean 2012 Good Guys Give Away "Gullwing" Challenger

I meant 2012 Good Guys Give Away, not 2011. I'm still shocked that the gullwing version didn't win. With all the time everyone in my shop spent voting for it, I figured it had to win!

garickman 02-10-2011 06:11 PM

Sure wouldn't mind looking at a few more pics of that 67 chevelle. How bout it?

coolwelder62 02-10-2011 06:33 PM

Wow!! Those are some very nice project's.Amazing Design,Engnieering,Workmanship.Congrat's,It's companies like your's that keep's our hobbies moving forward. :hail: Scott M.

67malibu 02-10-2011 10:38 PM

Awesome builds you guys have going there - Please start that project thread on the 67 Chevelle - I'm always checking your website for updates on that car, I started to think that project was given up on. If I remember right doesn't have some kind of rear diffuser on it? -- Keep up the great work!

SickSpeedMonte 02-11-2011 11:17 AM

Your shop is incredible, and I'm loving the ideas and execution in your work!

Sandbagger 02-12-2011 10:50 AM

I kinda remember a car jumping a snow bank bout a year ago ....
Anything in the works for this year ?

srh3trinity 02-12-2011 09:18 PM

I saw two cars with RS full chassis under them tonight at the World of Wheels in Birmingham. One was a partial build and you could really see the chassis. Unbelievable!
