2012 Camaro ZL1 with 550 horsepower, OH YEAH
Just to let you guys know, If I bought this car I would go to jail.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7eD0_dlXYM&hd=1 Can you imagine cruising this car with some Motley crew or Early Metallica. OH YEAH |
Still got the same ugly body. Disgrace to the ZL1 heritage. :unibrow:

Eliminate curvature in nose, reduce the rocker to window sill dimension, tighten the ass-end up a little and it has potential. I like the motor though, and I'm sure the insurance companies will appreciate the opportunity to increase rates. :D As far as the music goes, I'd have to be listening to Molly Hatchet Flirtin with disaster. |

Thats there for people like us. :unibrow: |

The original ZL1's weren't necessarily striking with the lovely hubcaps and all, but I'd have to agree. The new body style leaves a lot to be desired. The new Corvette ZL1 is badass in my opinion, but the Camaro, well, not so much. If they do end up cleaning up the lines on the new Camaro and really allowing it live up to its potential, I wonder how much the current fugly generation would (not) be worth? Yah, if I wanted a proper representation of a ZL1 Camaro, I'd go vintage and have me a 69 with a ZL1 block in it like Todd's. |
The ad says "introducing the most powerful Camaro ever".
I don't think so! Even my '69 will have a few more ponies than that new ZL1. And my car is tame relative to the cars around here. |
Here's another article and photo about it:
http://money.cnn.com/2011/02/09/auto..._zr1/index.htm The stripe, new lower fascia, and side skirts do improve the look a bit. Fix the tail lights, grill, and remove the B pillar and they'll be getting somewhere. |
Impressive power but not convinced it deserves the ZL1 name.
-Chevy Styling dept...."we were too lazy to doing anything cool so we'll just go with what we did for Transformers 2 years ago...AND we're keeping the Fisher Price grill that doesn't match the lower grill." |

The damn thing needs to lose serious amount of weight.
Close to 4,100lbs?! Are you kidding me? Sure, 550 hp sounds nice, but jeez... It probably needs that much just to get to speed  |
Nice car, but it should have a LS7/9 427! And that front facia got worse...
|
Agreed on the horsepower numbers. Considering the 2011 Mustang GT500 is putting out 550HP at 3820lbs, and Ford is offering the 2011 SuperSnake with nearly 800HP, GM should've had more to offer on a legendary Camaro like this instead of just swapping an engine out of a Cadillac. I'm not sure I like the idea of a legendary Camaro getting it's butt handed to it by a fairly common(nowadays) GT500. That just doesn't seem legendary to me, although Ford fans gotta love it.
Maybe, just like the original ZL1, they're grossly understating the true horsepower and/or it would very easy to do a few mods to drastically bump up the HP numbers. If that's the case then they'd be getting close to producing something proper. I'm sure we'll see #1 being auctioned at Barrett Jackson sometime soon. I wonder how many they will actually produce? It won't be 69 that's for sure. |

Didnt they sell a GM crate version at one time, not sure? Is your an original ZL1 block |

I had really imagined the "revived" Camaro ZL1 with an LS9 and a similar treatment to what the Corvette ZR1 got. Essentially adapt the ZR1 goods to a Camaro SS; carbon fiber roof skin, a window in the hood, similar or matching multi-spoke wheels, the high end brakes, etc. And what is going on with the nose, particularly the stacked foglamps? I am pretty disappointed. A cool car, yes. But carrying the ZL1 badge? Meh... fortunately John Hennessey has the right idea.

Yeah I have to say I'm not a fan of the overly squared off exterior styling of the new Camaro. Currently the SS is being outperformed by the new 2011 5.0 GT. The current 2011 GT500 coupe weighs in at 3820 lbs. which gives it almost a 300 lb. weight advantage over the ZL1. The Shelby GT500 puts down 550 hp and 510 lb. feet of torque. It will be an interesting battle between the two.

Just buy a z06, I am sure the camaro will be as much as the zo6
|
x3 with Todd. As much as I love Camaros, the Gen 5 is butt ugly.

both the new camaro and challenger have the same main problem, the are way too tall in between the rockers to the windows. they look like the fat chicks the are in jeans 3 sizes smaller than they should ever be seen in. Ford still has the best looking retro styled new muscle! and that new 5.0!.... wow!:woot: |
also if i could take one of the new camaro or challenger and section them about 2 inches they would intantly be 100 times better:thumbsup:

Rodger, slap your boy for the whole group.:D

I confident that if Brycen built his dream 69 mustang he would want to cut that up just as much as we have a 69 Camaro. I mean heck, brycen took a mustang bumper and build a new center on the pullmax and hung it on that crazy 69 Camaro we are building and it looks good doing it. |
One of the things I always "counsel" friends about when we go to a "car show" together is that every one of these cars represents what the OWNER wants.... and that it doesn't matter what "they" (my friend) think. I tell them -- "when it's your car - you can do whatever you want to it"... until then, just shut the " " up...
And YES I really do have that conversation every time. Everybody's wallet is different - tastes - memories - desires... I say -- build or buy whatever turns your crank... and as long as you're a car guy and care about the hobby. We're all good. Now.... about those plug wires wrapped around the shock tower there... You mind shortening them up a bit? Oh and that nasty group of wires ganged onto the battery terminal there... Yeah that's gotta go... and where the hell did you get those Radir wheels? :woot: |
I assuming everybody but YOU. I heard some rather strong opinions on a few un named cars during SEMA. :D

 There are some just nasty (as in BAD - not Bad azz) cars out there... :D |

I totally agree, I was just pokin fun. It'd be damn boring if we all liked the same cars , or football teams or.... Most of the fun comes from having a spirited discussion about whats "BEST". I had a friend bring his Mustang into my toy shop recently to use the hoist to put some track pads in. He told me he was surprised that I let a Ford into my shop. I told him Fords were welcome to come in "they just couldn't stay overnite" BTW I think 69 Mustangs are gorgeous cars. But I'll deny ever saying it!! ooops it's in print:_paranoid |
