HPI Customs : Chevelle Frames and projects

We recently started a whole bunch of chevelles. The count is up to two 67 chevelles and 3 70's!

For two of the 70 chevelles, we are using stock chassis with Speedtech Road Assault Suspension packages. On top of that, we developed a k-member system that we are now installing in all our customers chevelles that aren't getting a custom frame, and even using a tweaked version for our custom frames! It consists of :
a tubular k brace
frame boxing
total front-to-back factory seam re weld
Body mount reinforcement and billet body mount set
exhaust/driveshaft crossmember
trans mount system.

Our trans mount is slotted to accept LS/SBC/BBC with any GM auto, t56, t5, or tko trans!

We integrate exhaust hanger holes into the crossmembers and then use our laser cut stainless tabs and rubber grommets to isolate the exhaust.

This is a 70 chevelle that we are doing a bit more "drag race". Typical 4 link/wishbone/anti-roll bar combo with a Dart big block up front, lemons headers, and we are doing a 3.5 inch exhaust. Used our chevelle k brace system and tweaked it for the back half style chassis.

Nice work, very similar to what I am doing to my 72 frame.

64pontiac 02-17-2011 09:34 AM

I checked out your build thread Greg, nice car! I like the rendering, especially the black bumpers. Are those Boze stingers? I have the same rims going on my own car.

Cool stuff

Bryce 02-17-2011 09:45 AM

Great looking stuff!

214Chevy 02-17-2011 01:57 PM

Thanks, still a work in progress. the wheels are actually Boze Hi Octane's. but I may end up with something else that Frank @ prodigy recommended to me. but it will look similar.

Two questions, what size tube are you using on the outer tubes and how much would you want for a set of the slotted tabs?

64pontiac 02-17-2011 03:17 PM

The tubing is 1 5/8.

Here is what is going on top of one of the first two frames...... another body to follow after this one! Its the first Dynacorn Chevelle in Manitoba, one of the first in Canada. Any one else using one of these State side yet?

waynieZ 02-21-2011 09:14 PM

I didn't even know they were making them. Is it mini tubbed?

64pontiac 02-21-2011 09:29 PM

They aren't minitubbed as they are designed to drop onto stock frames..... but you can run a 305 and possibly a 315 under a 70.......

Well, lets see them...

also did you get my PM?

64pontiac 03-10-2011 10:14 PM

Ok heres the version 1 frame. We have been doing all our stuff in a slightly metallic gunmetal, its a nice contrast with the stainless exhaust and black speedtech stuff on it!
The lights are off in the shop now, otherwise I would have put a pic up with the exhaust and suspension on.

http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...epowdered2.jpg

We are just finishing up our rear trailing arm braces and billet body mount set too!

64pontiac 03-12-2011 11:13 PM

Heres an update, the exhaust is Dynatech 3 inch stainless. we used a set of their 2 1/8 headers for it, but they aren't for a chevelle so the frame had some serious massaging for it.

ShadowGrayGuy 03-18-2011 03:17 PM

Looks like Tyler & Dawn @ HPI have stumbled into a whole BUNCH of potential orders - I've been corresponding with them via email and will be purchasing their chassis materials for my '70 Chevelle as soon as we can iron out the details. I call "dibs" on the next shipment with the adjustable trans mount cross member!

Rob

bart0510 03-22-2011 07:15 PM

Here is what I have done with my '71 Chevelle frame so far but I think it is still missing something! Definitely needs one of Tyler's kits. Tyler thanks for all the info I will let you know shortly what I have decided. Too bad I already painted the frame, oh well that's what happens when project take too long--- more cool parts become available! Nice work Tyler!
