beautiful day, went out for a nice quiet drive
.....
|
Honestly, around here in that kind of traffic if a state cop saw you, most likely your car would now be confiscated. They'd call it racing, and would add in reckless driving. No insult - I mean it.

Where's the (im assuming) video go!!!
I wanna watch!:willy: |

This is exactly the kind of thing that injures/kills. |
Not to mention being out run by a pretty boy in a white Ferrari. :unibrow:
|
Personally -- I'd never dignify some DB in a Ferrari by even looking his way... let alone "race" it.
Even the 458 Italia does the 0-100 sprint in 3 and a half seconds... and there's not many cars on this board that can claim that! Well maybe... Frank and John P's new "fastest everything on the planet build"... EEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAA |

And how many people die slipping in between cars on the daily vs. people texting, drinking, lane changing into the car next to them with out looking, being ignorant and not letting someone merge and smack into the rear end of the car in front of them, trying to ash out the window... clipping the a pillar... then looking down to find the cherry, looking at maps, ect. I drive up and down the 5 all week.. and i see wrecks everyday. And they seem to be typical volvo's or saturns. All flipped over, or the usual three car rear enders. Speed kills is propaganda. Its the idiots that don't pay attention that kill in my opinion. Like i said.. i don't codon street racing.. but these guys were just shadowing each other slipping through traffic. Nothing "wreckless". Seemed to be in full control to me. :unibrow: Flame suit is on!! Give it to me!! |

I'm always having fun in my car and I'm sure many others are on this forum as well. I'm sure no ones EVER done a burnout or hit the throttle on the freeway. Due to the fact that I'm not well liked on this forum, and there appears to be some folks stating violation codes, it wouldn't surprise me if someone reported it. So its gone. I had to edit out all the weaving the guy was doing while I stayed in my single lane obeying traffic laws waiting to eventually catch up to the "fastest man in the traffic jam" |
I was expecting worse.
Still, I'm going to play devil's advocate. First, what does it say about a person driving the Ferrari, and the person willing to "race" the Ferrari? Actions like this generally reflect poorly on the individual filming. Now, I have to agree with Todd and Greg. Racing a WHITE Ferrari? Really? White is a benign color on an M3 or C63 AMG, but on a modern exotic white is the new P---y magnet yellow. It implies a level of presumptuousness which few can ever hope to attain. It is like saying I "I had white sunglasses, but those weren't enough." Dignifying his presence by "racing" him and consequently feeding his ego speaks volumes about the character of the other person. It would be like hand feeding Kirstie Ally McDonald's. Any reasonable personal would have to feel a tinge of guilt for being complicit in making something that big even bigger. I hope you feel bad Dane. Matt |

Since I was the first person to bring up the issue, let me be clear. I wasn't hammering rogue. I was sincerely just making the comment that in this part of this state anyway, had a state cop seen both the white ferrari and rogue, they would both have had their cars impounded and would have been cited for multiple violations. IMHO the ferrari was the guy being really unsafe (and it absolutely was unsafe) but the cops would get both due to rogue "participating". They would make the argument that the two were acting in concert. And since there's no way to disprove, that would be the end of it. Last person I know if that got into this kind of a charge ended up paying more than $5000 all told between the charges and getting the vehicle back out. I would also be concerned that just in case something unrelated to this incident happened, if the law of another party got hold of this video they would introduce it as evidence of habitual disregard for safety. I have nothing against rogue and have no concern that there is some sort of forum violation with this. Just making a point trying to protect some other folks from potentially losing their car. I won't get into the whole safety and personal opinion thing other than to say that all kinds of things kill. I agree that "speed kills" isn't really accurate enough, and that all kinds of distractions make things worse. But one fact (and it's a fact) is that speed "differential" does kill. The ferrari in this case is a classic example of exactly how to cause an accident. The only thing the guy could have done better would be to be guzzling some appletinis while driving.
BTW - I also have nothing against white ferraris, and suspect that anyone on this site would be giddy if it were given to them. They are a class piece of engineering. VERY cool cars. Cars are always cool. Drivers are the problem. This guy didn't deserve his white ferrari. |

Dane --
That's a sad comment that "people on here don't like you". I think what you mistake is that people on here reacted to your challenging them about tracking their cars as much as YOU would like to see THEM do. I can't remember the thread -- but that clearly sticks in my mind. That you'd made some comments about others not being out there racing their brains out the way you think they should be -- and there were posts reacting to those statements. I wouldn't confuse that with liking or not liking you personally - or wanting you to become a part of this (Lat G) community. I've posted up argumentative comments --- a thread on "8 second car" comes to mind... where I took the other side of a discussion about the racing terms used to describe a cars run time... We had a lot of comments and it was 99% against me... but I never got a feeling that people didn't like ME -- just that we had a difference of opinion. My opinion has not changed - and I don't think I changed anyones either... but it was a good discussion none the less. I think - IMHO - what makes this place "the best" is that there is actually very little "personal opinion" posts - vs - "helpful" or "informed" or "looking good". What we don't see here is somebody just flaming a guys car or wheels or whatever other choices a person makes. What I've seen is - if a guy is making personal choices - that's respected. If a guy is building something that may be a hazard - that might be "discussed" but in a purely helpful way. Having said all that --- I've owned fast cars for 40 years --- and I own them because I like driving them fast. BUT -- big BUTT -- I choose to do it where and when it will NOT be a hazard to OTHERS -- because it's MY CHOICE to kill/injure/wreck myself but not to put others in the way of my fun. On a board where EVERYONE has a fast, capable, car -- I think what you're seeing/reading is a reaction to an issue that brings scorn to those of us that choose to drive hot cars. It's HOW we drive them that is most important. For a guy that puts pressure on others to track their cars... which is the proper venue and outlet for 'us'... it surprises me that you'd choose to drive this way in traffic. That doesn't mean I don't read every post of yours - or have an opinion about you personally. I'd love to meet you - and check out your car - and I love watching your videos and pics of your track events. Just my .0000000000000000000000000002 worth  |

So I just paced the guy until he finally realized I was purposedly holding back. Quick burst of throttle on the freeway, no tire slip, no close calls. No harm. Then I let the guy take off like a ricer. I didn't think it was that big of a deal but apparently it is. I found it entertaining. You're reading too much into the "people don't like me", I've simply been told to 'clean up my act'. Quote:

The guy had gold teeth and white spiders are exceptionally rare and expensive so I've read. I always feel bad so I can't feel you  |
I like Danes posts and I like his attitude. His tastes in cars and dogs is awesome. If we all colored perfectly within the lines than the world would be pretty dull. And we would all have concours restos that we trailer to shows.
Anyone who has never sped, accelerated for the hell of it or done a burnout can speak up now ...(crickets chirping)... I dont think Dane did anything wrong in the video, the guy in the ferrari was the one being foolish. Ok where do I post the video of me doing donuts on another forum members lawn? |
We all know I'm more of a drive it and go to events type of guy. We think along the same lines in regards to trailer queens. I have to ask, why didn't you sign up for RTTC?

I have some CCWs for sale next week, Just have to sent that one wheel to CCW for new outer hoop. :willy: and 3 R888's or 2 275s. I'm bringing sexy back. Driving on street tires is an 'interesting' experience to me. |
Dane - same offer as last year applies. I'll pick you up and take you home if it helps getting you out to the event, and we can leave any time you feel ready. FYI - this is event that is most near and dear to your heart; last year was a blast!

Dane, I hope you get some answers with the new doc. The frustration and depression associate with medical issues of this nature are no fun. I'd imagine 100 octane fuel and track days are the best medicine you've had in a while. Stay strong buddy.
