DSE 1970 camaro subframe..
 
Will my L99, 6L80 from 2011 camaro fitt in to my DSE 1970 subframe to my camaro with out any modifying?? I know i have to do somthing with the tunel..

All the LSx motors mount in the same configuration. So if you have an DSE subframe designed to hold an LSx motor, then yes it should fit. The only thing you'll have to be careful with is the oil pan. I have no idea what the oil pan looks like on that engine and if it will fit the subframe. However, swapping out to the correct oil pan is simple. The next potential interference issue are the accessories. Again, I have no idea what the factory configuration is for that engine. You can change the accessories to after market pieces such as March, Billet Specialties, Vintage Air, etc or factory brackets from another car.

It will prob. fit better w/an 97-02 fbody pan.The rear sump is a little shallower.And a little shorter.Check w/Dan at DSE Mon. morning.

I have been out in the garage trying to get the engine to fitt:( but with no luck, i think i have to get me a new oil pan....
About the wiring, is there anybody out ther that have done cars with 6l80
or sombody that can tell me wats the best to use??

It should go in the sub no problem, but you will more than likely have to change the pan to an LS3 pan or aftermarket pan and a custom tranny crossmember. I aasume your using the DSE mounts? The real question is whether the 6L80 will clear the tunnel since the setback on the engine is quite a bit. Tunnel may require surgery as that tranny is huge.

I have been out trying to get the engine and tranny to fit today, with no luck.. i need to do somthing to the oil pan and the transmission tunnel and the assesorisse the altrernator is in the way:(.. so now my god deal is not so god anymore...when you look from the side on the car the oil pan on the transmission is very deep to, so im not sure if i can hVE 3 degrees on it.. :(

You just need your working angles of the
 
driveshaft to be equal. You can run as little as 1 degree. From the picture it appears that it is more than 3 degrees.

You could also raise the motor and trans in the car, but now you are looking at a complete tunnel re-work along with a little firewall work. Do you plan on running headers or the exhaust manifolds?

Looks like about 10 degrees. I personally feel every slammed protouring camaro needs the tunnel cut to raise tailshaft for smaller working angles. But that's just one man's opinion. :D

If I remember right over on ls1tech.com there is a thread with someone putting one of these in a first gen. He found a lower profile transmission pan. Probably worth searching for that thread.

Here are some pics of a 71 Camaro we did with 2010 Camaro 6L80 Transmission.. Minor modifiactions required :D

These transmissions are huge! Take into consideration that 2nd gen drivetain sits offset torwards the passenger side about 1/2 an inch..

I have talk to Kyle at DSE about the problem, I have problem with the engine sitting to low in the frame, if I shall get the right angel i have to get it higher in the frame..:) so I have to cut the tunnel and rise the engine and then we are good to go:rolleyes:

I will check out Ls1tech

Its hard when you are stubborn,, and choose to go another way than anybody else:thumbsup:

I don't know if this will help.. but here is a stock sub-frame with a L99..

I recommend that you use the DSE engine mounts.. It is designed to work with engine placement in stock location.. DSE headers will make it a simple for exhaust.. Use a 2002 Camaro oil pan or the new one that Mast just came out with.. I usually set up @ 2 degrees down on transmission angle & 2 degrees up on the pinion..

It sounds like Gonzo has you covered. He just showed you he has done exactly what you are doing in a second gen.

It also looks like you will need him to make you a driveshaft adapter. :yes:

Sounds like you have the wrong oil pan. Our LS3 crate engine dropped right in. It does sit low and back against the firewall. How deep is your oil pan?

That sounds about right.. The L99/LS3 for a Camaro has a different oil pan than the one used on a LS3 on a Corvette.. Pontiac G8 has the same oil pan as a Camaro.. For this reason is why I had to change them out..

We ended up using a Champ pan for clearance issues since we had to move the engine foward to clear factory a/c box and a few other aby normal installation issues. But in stock DSE location the factory pan did clear.

Oil pan on top is Pontiac G8.. dipstick is in oil pan
Oil pan on bottom is Camaro LS3/L99.. Dipstick is in the block

use a 6spd from a escalade and you can use a slip yoke, eliminating the need for custom parts for the driveshaft.

This is the pic I totally expected. I think 2nd gens may have less tunnel clearance than 1st gens, based on what I have seen online and my own experience installing a T56 in my 77. And every centimeter is moves back the more cutting is needed. The 6L80Es appear to be tall & hang low but not terribly wide.

Thanks guys.... I dont now what to do yet, but i have to cut fore shore..
I also have problems with the altenator:mad: hmm the engine sits to low i think i will get it up little so i have more ground clearens.. you know the road her in NORWAY is bad:cool:

You can't use factory low mount serpentine system in the DSE sub. it will not clear. You will have to use a high mount factory setup or go aftermarket.

Im starting to wonder if i will just sell the engine and transmission and by one with manuell transmission... and with the right assesoriss...think that will be better....hmmm:unibrow: maybee LS9:)
