69 Custom Camaro
My name is Tig and live in St. Petersburg, Florida.
I found my project car in the back of a body shop that was redoing my '83 CJ7 Laredo. It had been sitting there for a couple of years under dust. I moved it across the street to another body shop, GM Muscle. There..the project began. It was already stripped to bare metal...chemically, but we went ahead and had it media blasted. There was a good amount of rust..but luckily the rust was in all the RIGHT places. Since then we have replaced all...i repeat ALL the sheetmetal...minus the roof and firewall. We went with the new one piece floor, full quarters, fenders, complete doors, tailpan, trunkpan, trunk lid and hood. We POR15 the inside of the floors..and the bottom of the inside of the doors...and Rhino lined the complete bottom of the car. Atm they are working on the gaps. Next it will go to paint. We are painting her Mitsubishi Sunset Pearl...with a white pearl bumble bee stripe. I have a 425hp 350 sitting, waiting to go in, with an additional 100 shot NOS system. I also went with a TH700r4. The camaro had a 12 bolt posi rearend with 411 gears...so we are going to keep that. I am still deciding on whether or not to put the factory seats back in. I have the original seats...and they are in almost excellent condition. But, GM Muscle has a set of 4th gen seats and console, we may end up going with. We are going to use the Guldstrand mod for the front suspension, till i can afford something better. I purchased the taillights, side markers and indicator lights from Marquez Design..and i purchased the 6speed windshield wiper motor from DSE..and i cant wait to see them on my beast. As soon as i figure out how to post pictures...i'll post them Tig69SS |

Here are the pics that Tig sent. Can't wait to see more when it's further along.
 |
I wanted to explain the pictures a little bit. First off.. these pictures are during the first phase...the structural part. I have more recent pictures...just dont have access to the camera yet.
The first picture is how i found the car..under all the dust. The second picture shows the skins that were originally on the car. They were put on pretty well...i just decided i wanted full quarters on the car..didnt want someone to lean against the quarter panel ...and crack the filler on the skins welds. The third picture shows the car with the floors cut out. And the forth picture shows the quarters cut out ...and the wheel wells being welded in. I'll send more pictures when i get them back. |
Welcome to the forum Tig.

Welcome! That's a project!

Got your hands full, enjoy, and welcome aboard....

Hey Tig -
Welcome to the site. Glad to have another G-Man from Florida. |
Welcome! I know the sheet metal replacement dance as well... When we got my Dad's '56, the whole back of the car was so rotted it had twisted and collapsed down over the frame! :wow:
Good luck on the project! Bill '72 442 "Inamorata" |

Here are some more recent pictures of the camaro. All the sheet metal is finished, and just waiting to go to paint....probably middle of next week. We painted the engine the same color we are going to be painting the car...so you get kind of a preview.

Hey Tig, good work, and tons of it!
Where did you get the 1-piece floor? Do you like it? I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Any speed bumps you can warn about? |
I originally found it on Classic Industries site....for $339.95. But, then found one at a local swap meet for $300 and no shipping. I will say....it was a perfect fit. There were no problems...we measured it, cut it...and it fit like a glove. I was afraid with the size, it would be hard to get it right on all sides without some work. But i was wrong, they did a good job making this product.

Congrats!
Wow, looks good!!
You might want a bit more tire out back though.... j/k! :D |
Nice! Congrats on getting color on the project.
|
I love that color! Very cool!
|
Paint should give you some spark to get 'er done. Nice color BTW, what color is it?
|
The pictures give the car no justice. The car looks 20x better in person. It looks very much like a candy apple orange, the actual color is called Sunset Pearl. If u check out the mitsubishi website, and click on the Eclipse at the top, the main page has the color on the car there...u can really get a better look at what the color is.
Tom, i wanted small tires in the back there to make sure i can smoke'm =P -Tig69SS |
coming along nicely...glad to see more FL members...
|
Beautiful color, looks like there are some other diamonds in the rough in the yard behind your car like the early 70's Camaro.
|
Nice car! Love the color.
|
I was originally thinking sunset pearl. But I always think of the color used on the late model f-bodies. Great looking paint!
|
Tig I stopped by the shop and checked your car out last wensday and it's looking awsome. It has been a while since I've seen you at the shop I hope to run into you soon. Pictures don't do the car justice in person it does look 20 times better.
