Project "Dust Off" 68 Camaro then and now.
I thought it might be fun to post some then and now pictures of my 68 Camaro. I purchased it in Phoenix in 1973 and it was my daily driver until 76. The first two pictures were taken in the late 70's when it was in drag racing trim. The last two pictures are how it looks now in a full Pro-Touring form. It is currently sporting a DSE subframe, DSE subframe connectors, DSE mini-tubs, Chassis Works G-link rear suspension, Moser 9" w/floating hubs, Corvette C6 Z06 14" brakes, Forgeline 18x10 275's and 18x12 335's with the same engine and transmission (rebuilt of course) that it was running 30+ years ago. I also included the rendering that I had done which was my project guide.

Looks killer! Love the name choice!

Digging the rendering! Can't wait to see this build come together..

Very nice. That rendering is awesome! What color is the car in the rendering?
Keep us posted. |
Thanks Guys! The rendering color is supposed to be Grotto blue the same as the car. I think the rendering is just a shade too dark. I have no immediate plans to repaint the car and even when I do it will remain the factory Grotto blue with the nose stripe.

Cool story. What's the motor and trans?
|
That is really cool you kept it over all those years. Love the old pics vs the new. Any plans to put the spoiler back on?
|
The drive train is my former drag motor a low 12 second 331ci SBC and Borg Warner Super T-10 "W" gear set.
The car never had a rear spoiler and I am undecided as to whether I want one. Everyone who builds a 1st gen has one and I kinda like the look of the clean deck lid. And the name "Dust Off" comes from the fact that it sat in my garage for nearly 20 years and I litterally had to dust it off to start the project. |
I like the paint the way it look's now.

Leave the paint as is & don't add the spoiler. |
i love spoilers, but when i look at those pics it just look soooo cool and understated with out it. i say leave it without one.
or add a 2 foot tall one! |
I will always say add the spoiler on 1st and 2nd gens to me they dont look right without them. But it's your car do what makes you happy.
|
Cool car and history.

Like I said on PT, I love your car...
Nice choice of wheels, btw! |
Sweet ride, and the story behind it is just as cool! I think it's awesome that you have kept that Camaro as long as you have and are still having fun with it. Look forward to seeing more.

Awesome looking Camaro

i just called dse today. they stated that i should run 18x9 and 18x11 on my camaro with the same setup as you. What rim offset did you use front and rear and are you having any issues running 18x10 and 18x12? rubbing issues?
this is for a 67 camaro |

I love the look and stance of your car.
It's a pleasure to see a Pro-Touring car with his fatory color in a world of highly modified bodies ( à la Ringbrothers ) and repainted cars (in metallic gray !!! ). The second picture shows a rear spoiler ! ? |

BTW, here are some updated pictures. I went back and forth but finally decided to add the rear spoiler and front air dam. http://hayes-ent.com/steve/images/Camaro/Camaro1.jpg http://hayes-ent.com/steve/images/Camaro/CAMARO3.jpg http://hayes-ent.com/steve/images/Camaro/CAMARO4.jpg http://hayes-ent.com/steve/images/Camaro/CAMARO2.jpg |
