crazy crash at Vegas Speedway
got this off the Chevelle board. Never seen this happen before to this extent.
Damn.........wonder what made the throttle stick
Yeah I saw that on another board. That was crazy!
Wonder why he couldnt kill the power?
My bet is he was unconscious.

what was holding the car still if he wasn't holding the brakes?
From what I hear on the Norcal board, he was knocked out and a front wheel was bent or broken causing the jamb. There were kill switches both inside and outside the car but obviously approaching a car that violent isn't going to happen. Very sad, but at least he's alive.
If that front wheel didn't lock it could've been a real bad deal. Imagine if it headed for the starting line!
He wins the burn out contest hands down!
Figgin crazy!! |
Humm. Makes one think about how to incorporate inertia swiches in the fuel and ignition systems.
So, so, lucky nobody was seriously hurt in that!

ANOTHER ANGLE
here is a copy and paste from Eric:
"Thanks to all for the thoughts and prayers, I am OK VERY sore and bruised, if I move to fast i get real dizzy but its getting better... I got home OK and downloaded the data from the pass and what i learned was that 2.2 seconds into the pass it started to shake the tire, it shows i try ed to lift (tps) and pull on the toe hook, but it was stuck. It went to around 5800 rpm then I hit the wall at 3.0... I thought i had turned off the ign and went for the chutes before it hit the wall. Once it hit the wall I was knocked out and I pinned it to the floor, then when i hit the wall the second time it knocked my foot off the throttle and it went back to the stuck position till it ran out of fuel..I learned a lot from this and my new car will have some changes because of it. I was very lucky my safety gear did its job. Things could have been way worse and looking back on it I am very glad it happened the way it did.. I went to the track the next day and thanked all involved. Most people don't know this but one of the fire rescue workers has hit by a piece of the tire or wheel and had to go to the hospital also, he will be OK.. They all did a great job and I would like all to know I am very great full that they put there lives on the line to save me!!!!! " __________________ |
Thanks for sharing Bob, glad he's OK
Glad to hear it, humbly said as well.
That's just crazy. That just shows that anything can happen at the track. Glad he's OK. Sucks for the car, looks just like my Firebird without wheelie bars and hood.
Glad to see he's ok and already thinking about a new car. Earlier in the day he ripped off a 7.77 at 182mph, damn impressive for skinny drag radials! Eric knows how to make big power for sure, I can't wait to see his next ride.
Watching it live on bangshift, I just about puked...kudos to the safety crew! |
Glad he is okay, I'm with CarlC - inertial kill switches
I heard about this from another racer that was there. I was glad to hear he was OK and back at the track the next day.
I grew up drag racing and it sounds to me like the throttle hung when he launched. But man that could have been much worst, glad is his okay.
