Project Sleeping Beauty... 1970 TA
Well we're at it again LOL,,,, Carbon Kustoms has commissioned Scott to do another Bird "Project Sleeping Beauty".... I wanted to challenge Scott to build an attractive yet understated 70 TA Pro-touring build that the average guy could afford.... The car will utilize a stock sub-frame with readily available Ride Tech suspension components and Wilwood brakes.... We will attempt to make some of the hard choices and balance where money is spent and cut as closely as possible to build a very good road map for others that may be considering doing a early second gen....
Of course there will be a certain basis when it comes to Carbon panels,,, but hey that's what you get when I'm financing the build and it's my rules right,,, that is unless someone else wants to step up and purchase the build as we go along LOL... Anyways without further a due,,, Project Sleeping beauty http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/a...teTA__rev3.jpg |

Sounds awesome, it will be done in 3 weeks right? ;) Can't wait to see how the build goes.

can't wait to see how this one turns out.
|
those are beautiful cars. And the carbon pieces will more than negate the extra weight they carry in the front end versus a Camaro.
Love it, keep us posted. |
You just can't
stop building cars can you Albert?
Looking forward to another great build! |
Albert- Another great build you got going on... It will be great to see Scott build a car with more time..
LS motor? |
I will only be working on this car after my nightly Golf lesson's.

We're really going to try to do this like someone trying to build a car with best options as they avail themselves.... I have the components to fully build the car in my own collection of parts and I'll be looking to upgrade or take advantage of this and what comes along (provided it fits the spirit of the build well) and maintains that sleeper quick economical model we're shooting for... Wow that last sentence was a mouth full LOL... |

Very nice. That should be a great looking car when complete.
Love the colors. |
Albert, you need help. :D

No need to thank me for helping you spend your money. It's a service I provide free of charge. Please just don't hit me too hard should you find me hugging/humping the car one day. I'm sure I'll just be going through withdraw since my bird is up for sale and there's no telling when I'll be able to build my own. Seriously though, it's going to be sweet and I do like your premise for the build. What plans do you have for the rear suspension? I consider it to be more limiting than the front but that may just be my opinion. |
We have installed a ridetech 4-link in the chassis already.Albert already had a stock sub outfitted w/Ride Tech tube control arms,Triple ajustable stocks,Ride Tech sway bar.He also had a nice GM 10bolt rear that we are going to use to keep the cost down.We are not mini tbbing this car.He is chosing to use some real nice year one 17" wheels to keep the cost lower there also. The only over the top componets are the carbon fiber pcs. Albert et wholesale.

Love this build. sounds real close to my 79 z build. post some pics

Thanks for all the positive comments and feed back guys..... The car is out at Brian's for prep painted and we'll post some pic's as soon as he gets a chance to forward them to me.... Brian is a Hell of a painter and body guy that managed to complete the Cochise build in what some would say was an impossible time frame...
On a separate note,,,, I've decided to smooth the stock sub-frame, paint the rear end housing and undercarriage in a satin flat grey (to tie into the Carbon) and the cowl has been replaced in Carbon... Effectively when you open the hood of this car you will will see a motor painted in 70 Pontiac blue floating between and under a Clear Carbon hood, inner fenders and cowl,,, or simply stated floating in sea of Carbon & fine metallic Flat Satin Grey... This is something that the average guy can either do (if he has welding skills and equipment) or have done (have a pro weld and you work the rest) without getting goofy that adds a nice custom touch without getting crazy.... I have also made the decision to run the new Year One "cast Aluminum" one piece rims and have them sent out to be cut for more backspace and wheel contact/width.... The guys over at "Year One" deserve a High Five for providing an affordable option that is frankly beautiful in my opinion... While some of the moves I make here are indeed self indulgent (putting Carbon on the build) the other moves are decisions I feel add the best bang for the buck in performance enhancement.... I fully appreciate that some people will not share my view point,,, but heck this is what I feel works the best so far within my experience... There are some less expensive options that can be chosen,,, but I feel the selected combination provides the best overall balance between spending and performance at this level of a build.. Thanks again gang,,, and I'll try to keep you more current on the build as details evolve... |
I'm loving the concept behind this build!! Something the average guy can do himself while subbing out the harder stuff!

Just thought I'd share a couple of quick update pic's on the build after receiving an e-mail from Brian and talking to him on the phone.....
http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/a...TA/Primer1.jpg http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/a...ellprep2BW.jpg and with a little color http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/a...beauty0082.jpg http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/a...beauty0102.jpg http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/a...beauty0092.jpg Fenders with a little clear Carbon detail for the engine bay that will be fitted with a Clear Carbon cowl, a custom smoothed and painted firewall and clear Carbon inner wheel wells and a smoothed painted sub-frame.... The idea will be to create a mono chromatic fine metallic semi-flat gray wash with Carbon accents and then float the LS1 motor (block) in the middle painted out in 70 Pontiac blue. http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/a...beauty0112.jpg Stay tuned because next couple of weeks this thing is going to start to come together now.... |
Awesome. Looking forward to the updates.
|
Stripes underway, Brian Kellison is promising to do something cool here and we'll all just have to wait and see what he is up too... A little birdie said we'd all """really like""" his efforts before it was all said and done,,, something tells me this is gonna be good......

I like that red mimicking the fading the blue had that came on the cars originally. Looking great Albert.
|
Thanks Trey,,, the car should be a pretty cool little ride for someone when complete... It's setup to be a great street ride and get the job done real nice at the events as well (won't be the fast ride out there,,, but certainly no slouch)...
I believe Scott picked up the car yesterday from Brian's and I'd imagine he'll post a couple of pic's before covering it up and setting it aside (He has to focus on the 1953 series 62 Caddy convertible project for now).... |
A little teaser update until Scott shares a few.....

Gonna be a stunning car Albert. Appreciate your time today too. You are a great one Sir...
|
Looks like Scott is busy so I'll post a couple more....

 Looks great already Albert!
|
Looking REALLY good!!
|
Subscribed!! Can't wait to see how this one turns out!
|
Looks great Albert. The red looks like it should have been a factory option. Is the paint polar white? I can't wait to see this come together.
 |
Stunning Albert, I love how your cars look factory but you can tell things are better! :hail:
|
Thanks Rick,,,, I really try to mess with the factory or not styling that kind of messes with peoples minds if they're not enthusiasts....
|
Love the striping, and are the rear 1/4 wheelwells flared?? Looks sick
|
Quote:
|
Thanks guys,,,, the quarters are not flared however the lip is rolled....
|
A couple more quick pic's

 This thing is going to be Ferrari / Anvil Mustang sexy!!!
|
A quick shot of the LS1 professionally re-built to insure a smile when leaning on the beauty... We sprayed the block in 70 Pontiac blue and will likely use remote coil packs to provide that old school look out of a retro drive line...
Scott tells me that the car will come back to his shop tomorrow so we'll have more photos coming over the next few days I'm sure.... http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/a...autyLS6001.jpg |
That engine looks good in Pontiac blue
|
Looks great Albert! I like the red & the correct original engine color.
|
man that red looks killer!
