New member with a BB first gen camaro
Hello lateral-G friends,
New to this site, looks like some great cars. Here is what I have. 68 camaro 540 merlin III BB (760 HP and 755 lbs of tq) DSE Tubular upper and lower a-arms DSE frame connectors and mini-tubs 3" lowering rear springs from DSE. Budnik Tiller 5 wheel with 315's in rear 245's up front BFG's BeCool radiator and Vintage Air front runner system and AC system Baer Brakes on all 4 corners 5 speed Richmond Road Race tranny SS rear DSE fuel tank 3" exhaust with X pipe ford 9 " with 31 spline Moser axels All stock interior with upgraded guages Custom audio-- secret audio sound system Stealth roll cage to help stiffen the body Koni adjustable shocks on all 4 corners from DSE with coil-over up front Camaro was originally a 6 cylinder from the LA CA area purchased from the original owner. Love to cruise in this car with my family and we do a lot of that. |
Wow, awesome ride!!
More pics would be great! :hail: |

68 camaro BB
Scott and Tom, thanks for the kind words, you both have great cars. Amazing how big this g-machine has become. Very cool.

Yep, I dig it!!!!! Nice ride, got any pics of the interior? What do you think of the suspension?
I also think its very cool the family is involved in the hobby!! I can't wait to do the same!! |
Pics of interior
Here are some pics of the interior and trunk area. Note the shock tower we used vs. the one DSE send with their kit. Much stronger than stock GM metal but allows more room for 3" exhaust with a lowered car. Note the roll cage center bar. My builder designed this so we can take the center bar out when needed. I see now this is offered from many roll cage manufacturers. Very handy when just cruising around to take this center bar out.

welcome to lat-g
very nice ride..... |
DSE suspension
I love DSE's suspension components. The only negative is- not real easy to adjust the front coil-over shocks, but the upper and lower tubular a-arms look very cool. Usually you can set the ride height once and not touch it again. About the ride--that's what sells folks in this area on a g-machine. Once they get in this car and feel how tight and the handling of this car they are sold. These cars are a blast. And yes, my family (wife and 4 year old son), after the Lord, there is nothing better than cruising around together.
Greg Here is a pic of my lower DSE control arms |
Nice ride, Greg! Welcome aboard.

Welcome to the site. And about the car..... Damn. Very nice. Have fun with it. That's why it was built, right? Damn.... Very nice.... Can I say it again? Please? I will anyway. Damn... Very nice....

Very Very Nice!!! :drive: Dave |
Welcome aboard. You are going to fit in just perfect around here. The car is amazing and ultra clean. I think you have just the right combo of Bling and Purpose under the hood. The aluminum and painted parts make a super nice contrast. Very well done, very balanced, and clearly well thought out.
I bet your 4 year old has a blast riding with you. My two year old figured out how to say "GO" and get me to rev the engine up for him. Cool stuff! (love those valve covers). |
BeCool68, that is a sweet car. I've admired it for quite some time up at Performance Automotive. Welcome to the board.
|
Aewsome ride, great to have you on board.

Lateral G-friends--thanks for all the kind words. My car does not compare to many of yours, but thanks again.
I will send some more pics of the undercarriage soon. Show off some of DSE products with tubulars a-arms, frame connectors, and their SS fuel tank. |
Car looks awsome DSE has some Killer products! My dad and i painted their display car they are a great bunch!
|
We have been very happy with the DSE line and how everything seems to be well thought out/engineered and fits without much modifications. You get what you pay for. And the service you get from these guys is second to none. Kyle really understands this industry. That is always a good thing.

Finally got some pics of the suspension

I love that car. I love the big block. Very clean.
A couple of questions: 1) Where did the valve covers come from? What brand? 2) How long have you been putting it together? 3) What kind of tires are you running? |
Tracy--
Tracy, thanks--yep once you have had a big block hard to go back. What I like about this "beast" is we have all this power (760 HP)and still idles around 700rpm with the AC on. And the cool thing about is, even in this hot Memphis weather engine never gets above 210 degrees--thanks to BECool. 1. Valve Covers--not sure who makes them. My engine builder Cropper Racing Engines in Flemingsburg KY got them for me for around $150. Their number is 606-849-2506. Probably made in China Moroso look-alikes. But they work. 2. I bought this car going on 2 years ago in S. CA fro the original owner--very nice lady. Real clean 6 cylinder 3 speed on the column, car. Took 6 months to build with a frame-off restoration or I guess a front uni-body off restoration. My builder was Ronnie Geeslin in Senatobia MS with Ronnie's Hot Rods. His number is 662-301-2006--this guy's work is one of the best I have ever seen. Well as you know they are never done. I am looking at possible transmission swap with overdrive maybe a TKO 500--with internal shift. Nothing wrong with this Richmond very happy but to have over-drive would be nice. I may even look at the 4 link from DSE. Always something but I guess that whats so fun about this stuff maybe fuel injection with FAST. 3. The tires are BF Goodrich KD's 315's in the rear and 245's up front on 17" Budnik wheels. I am happy with how they hold. |
VERY cool car! Glad you shared.

Thanks Jody, You don't have to "twist my arm" to talk about these fun cars.

68 BB Camaro update
2 years under my belt with this G-machine--have had a lot of fun these last two years and added 6,000 miles to the odometer. Getting ready to install DSE's 4-link and a new DSE 600 steering geer for 2007. Here are some of my latest pics of the car. Great website. Merry Christmas
|
nice car, will be running very similar exhaust.just printed underside shot to show my muffller man.what kind of x pipe is that?cant wait to drive mine.maybe 2007?
|
X-pipe-response
I'm not sure who's x pipe this is. My muffler man put it on when I had the 3" exhaust installed. May be flowmater. I know magna-flow has a trick X pipe--looks very cool.

Just to add to the positive responses .. your car definitely looks great. What size/backspacing are you running with the Tillers? I've got a 67 coupe in the midst of restoration and am trying to get my parts list finalized for the assembly phase. Also, are you satisfied with the DSE 3" drop-leaf setup (I'm considering coilovers in the rear for adjustability/ride quality vs. leafs)?
Thanks! -Todd |
