Lokar 69 Camaro by Goolsby Customs

Goolsby Customs is proud to announce we have begun the build for Lokar on their 69 Camaro convertible to debut at Sema 2012. We are extremely honored and privileged to be chosen to build a car for such a great company with a tremendous reputation, and look foward to working with many great friends/partners on this project and creating something pretty special.

The talent pool of Ben Hemance was once again tapped to put some ideas on paper and he of course knocked it out of the park once again.

Lokar came down and brought us what turned out to be the nicest 1st gen we have probably ever seen ....

From the start of this build we knew we wanted to turn to our friends and those "all around great guys" at the Roadster Shop for another one of ther Fast Track Chassis. We have been using several of their frames lately and we have always said how great they were but when we got this chassis in I must say they do build them low, strong ,and fast

Wow cool build, I can't believe I read 2 posts in a row with unreal shells to start with? Where are people finding these things

Does that chassis require the complete floor cut out or how does it install?

56pickup 12-15-2011 04:55 PM

Looks killer Josh! Thanks for posting it over here! Absolutly can not wait to see the finished car next year! whats are the plans for the motor?

settintrendz 12-15-2011 05:09 PM

Wow!!! That thing is amazingly clean!

waynieZ 12-15-2011 05:14 PM

This car is unreal but I dont know the story on where it came from exactly
The chsssis only requires minimal cuts to the floor, about the size cut you would make for sub-frame connectors and then a hole under the rear seat for the lower four link mounts, and lastly remove the rear sub-frame rails, I will post pics of that shortly

Tyler ,thanks we appreciate it....Now get off the computer and get to work on that ford :D
As far as the motor we had a Mast Ls3 535hp here for a second gen bird we are building ( build thread coming soon) but that customer wants more so that motor will now be going in the Lokar Camaro, so that worked out great

GoolsbyCustoms 12-16-2011 03:48 PM

Here is a few that shows some of the cuts needed for the frame , as well as a little patch panel work

Congrats on getting to do a build for Lokar! You guys do phenomenal work! The Chevelle and Mustang you did we're stellar! Look forward to seeing this come together.

That body is in incredible shape! Should be really nice to work on something that is that clean from the start. Rendering came out sick as well. This should be a great build that we are glad to be a part of.

elitecustombody 12-17-2011 09:39 PM

I agree, you guys are so lucky to start with such a clean body. Please post updates on the progress.

tones2SS 12-19-2011 06:20 PM

Great work.
I'm usually not too crazy about convertibles, but this car looks like it's going to be beastly.

Yeah the shape of this body really makes it nice and I got a little back story on it as well, The car was parked in Tuscon for 17 yearsand went up for sale on Ebay , Skip Walls (owner of Lokar) was bidding on the car but had to go out of town and asked Kevin (Skip and Debbies son) to finish it up and by the car, well Debbieand some of the guys at Lokar got together and made some phone calls and bought the car without Skip knowing it and let him believe they lost the auction, Skip went on and on for three weeks how he got screwed out of the cleanest, nicest Camaro yada yada, then on the night of their company Christmas party they had it out front where they surprised him.
Pretty cool story

kovert 12-27-2011 11:01 AM

this shell is way too clean its gotta be a new "dynacorn" or something of the sort !!!

I assure you it is an original:yes:

GoolsbyCustoms 12-27-2011 12:13 PM

Here are some progress shots of the doors and trunklid where we are using CTS-V coupe door latches and strikers as well as a GM sedan trunk latch and made our own striker. These latches are power from the factory so that opens up some options for handles , but more importantly they shut and latch amazingly.

Stephen, we are doing a photoshoot with the 64 truck in a week or so and will get you some pictures then, as far as the build pics they are up on our website , didnt post them up here because I didnt think they were "Lat G" enough

here is a few more of the camaro showing the raised trans. tunnel, cut out firewall, as well as the frame pockets we did in the floors. The "leg" coming down on the side is where we will extend the rocker to and remove the pinch weld underneath for a cleaner look, thanks everyone and enjoy.

GoolsbyCustoms 03-19-2012 03:16 PM

Thanks everybody,

Here are a few that show a small inlay panelwe did on the tail panel , nothing crazy just a clean little panel ,as well as a few that we took while the car came down off the stands for a bit

http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/x...age00160-1.jpg

Stock rear panel with Marquez lights , looks good but needed a little something extra

http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/x...age00161-1.jpg

cut out the area in between the tailights

http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/x...Image00212.jpg

then re created the character line that goes around the lights and welded it in

http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/x...Image00214.jpg

http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/x...Image00213.jpg

http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/x...Image00196.jpg

http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/x...Image00195.jpg

welded in back panel to create the "box" for the new trim piece to reside

http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/x...Image00208.jpg

http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/x...Image00203.jpg

New trim piece made with a small reveal line in it, the plan is to have this piece plated with the tailights

http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/x...Image00220.jpg
