Huge group of neglected Bullmastiffs in serious need of help.
Friends,
I don't post on Lat-G often but this is something of an emergency so I hope you'll indulge me. As elsewhere chronicled, I was a Bullmastiff parent, and will be again soon. There is a huge group of dogs that was just rescued from a horrifically neglectful situation in Nevada. Most of the dogs are currently in Phoenix and some have yet to be rescued from NV. The costs of this have outstripped the American Bullmastiff Associations resources. Please give the link below a read and if you can help please do. http://bullmastiffrescuecrisis.blogs...ue-crisis.html My girl, Roxy was adopted from ABARS. She was given a second shot at life via rescue. Please give these dogs a similar chance. We will be adopting one or two of these dogs, but there are far more that need immediate care. Thanks, True, Kathy and Roxy (RIP) |
It's awful that this guy let these dogs become so unhealthy. Hoarding is a bit of a sickness. The main thing is that the dogs are safer now. The ABA is going to try to get the State of NV to put an injunction on the guy so he can no longer own animals.

I am a dog lover and hope these dogs find good homes. If I had the time and money, I would love to give Titan a great home. What a good looking dog.
I currently have a Miniature Schnauzer, Jenna, that has been pretty sick and has diabetes. She gets 2 insulin shots a day at 12 hour intervals. It's a ton of work, but I love my dog to death. Good luck to those dogs. |
Thanks to anyone who has contributed or aided in spreading the word. We raised close to $1500 in the last two days alone which is fantastic. Despite the stated goal on the Chip-In bug being $10k, the costs of taking care of these dogs is likely to run close to $20k if not more.
If you are reading this, and can help please do. If you can't offer money (and I fully understand if you can't) please help by spreading the word via your personal networks, on facebook or on other social networks. |

Update:
The dogs are rebounding quickly, tough critters. Some will be moving from the commercial kennel in Phoenix to foster homes in CA, OR and WA. Snort and possibly Ava are going to come live with us. For the rest, the path will be from the kennel to a foster home to be house broken, detailed behavioral assessments, putting on some weight and rudimentary obedience training. Once completed they will go on the open rescue board for adoption. That said, anyone that has made an effort to support their rescue will be given first crack at adoption. Let me know. I'll put up more pictures on the blog as I get them. |
12/23 Update:
http://bullmastiffrescuecrisis.blogs...te-122311.html If any of you are interested in adopting one of these dogs the first step for you will be to go to the American Bullmastiff association website HERE and fill out their adoption application form. It's HUGE. Then get that sent in to the National co-ordinator with the Subject line: NEVADA/PHOENIX RESCUES. http://www.bullmastiff.us/rescue/ |

Good for Titan! That is awesome news. I knew he would have a home soon. He's a great looking dog.
I'm digging that brindle Mastiff, Boy. |
I do want to mention again that the dogs will be moving to foster homes all across the country. There just aren't enough fosters in the SW for all of them. As mentioned on the blog, there are already quite a few that have been moved to the PNW. Next week a few will be headed to the Gulf States area, and as I recall there is another group that will be headed to the Mid-Atlantic/Virgina area.
If you've any inkling toward adoption, don't let the fact that the dogs are in Phoenix keep you from looking into it. Dawn is totally open to change the plan for which dogs go where so that one you might be interested in can be fostered near you. Again, the transport costs and continuing medical treatments are substantial. Thanks a ton to those who have donated, and if anyone else can help, there's a wrinkle faced pooch that'll really appreciate it. |

In December of 2011 I made a public plea for assistance in the rescue effort of 27 Bullmastiffs that were in a horrible situation in Las Vegas, NV. I know a few of you made donations to the effort. For that, you have my most sincere gratitude. I wanted to share with you the blog post linked below with an announcement and update on the dogs YOU helped save.

That's great news.

Excellent news, True! Thanks for the update.

I salute you Sir from the bottom of my dog loving heart. I've never met a bad dog only ones that have been screwed up by humans. A very daunting task you undertook and with dogs of that stature there are serious risks. We recently rescued/adopted a Great Dane and compared to the challenges you've faced it's been very easy and over the top in emotional rewards. Every day with our Dane just keeps getting better. |

If that strikes a chord with any of you the best way to honor that sacrifice is to adopt a rescue pet and give it a forever home. |

It is reassuring in this day and age to know that people like those who rescued and cared for those dogs still exist. I am thankful for them and all those like them. It breaks my heart to see and hear about those that didn't make it. But I am happy to hear of all those that have found loving homes and will now be loved and spoiled for the rest of their lives.
Our last two dogs have been rescues and I don't imagine that we will have another dog as a companion that isn't a rescue. Dave |
Very cool blog about the dogs updates.
Sad to see many died of Parvo so young. Good that many others found homes. I almost lost my pup to Parvo as well, and he was also vaccinated. Very strange..... |
