Will definatley keep you posted, we are hoping to debut it at SEMA. In March we will be bringing the rolling chassis to the Pleasanton GoodGuys first show of the year.

Started to shave the drip rails today. I am cutting the drip rails in 6 inch sections and welding them up before moving on to the next 6 inch section.

I like that idea! We just hacked mine off and then welded very very slowly...

Hahaha...I did the same thing Ron. Hacked the whole side off. :willy: I like the 6-inch-at-a-time-idea. Maybe, I can get it right when I start on my C10. :D

You're not kidding, I have much respect for these custom shops and their metal fabricators. Unfortunatley, I've got more time than money so I am doing it myself. Although in the end I am sure it will be much more gratifying.

garickman 01-07-2012 04:41 PM

Needed a change of pace from the drip rails so I decided to clean up my trunk hinges and make them a little more presentable.

Here is the before....

Here is a quick look at the mirrors I am using for this project. The body of the mirror is gloss black and the moveable portion is a matte black. I used the two shades of black to go with everything else. I am using Ring Brothers door handles which are also gloss black and matte black. All my trim on the car as well as the grill will be matte black and the Forgeline wheels will be matte blacke with a gloss black lip. The mirrors are not power but they do have integrated led turn signals.

They are Shelby mirrors. I got them from a place called Mustang Project. They only come in chrome, but what they did for me was sent just the body and mirror housing so I can get them powder coated. I sent them back and they assembled them. Here is a link.

love the mirrors!

I started to clean up my Flowmaster muffler. For ground clearance purposes, I am using the Delta Force Low Profile dual in dual out. These will also act as the crossover. In order to quiet down the exhaust, I will also be using resonators at the rear of the car.

The only problem with the Delta Force is they have 3 1/2 oval inlets and outlets. In order to make them work with my 3" round tubes, I had to make some transitions. I also cleaned up all the factory welds. I am not quite finished but it's almost done.

Here is some before pics of the muffler...
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/...MUFFLER003.jpg

http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/...MUFFLER001.jpg

Here are the transitions I am making using the existing 3" round tubes. I am using a 20 ton press to expand eich piece one half inch and the I clamped them in a vice to get the oval shape.

Just got back with a little something from SPD Exhaust. This is the 304 stainless that will make up the one-off headers which are being fabricated in house by Dominator Street Rods.

We've made a little more progress on the chassis construction.

The rear crossmember is fabbed up and ready to weld in.

The front upper and lower control arms are just about finished.
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/...UPDATES004.jpg

These are the ATS spindles and thd SFK ZR-1 hubs.
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/...UPDATES007.jpg

This is the start of the removeable transmission crossmember. It will pretty much match the rear crossmember with the exhaust pass through.

Hello Greg.
I just wanted to tell you I think this is a great build. No matter what direction you take on any part of this build...in the end one little detail over another doesnt matter. Its the INTENT that counts. I myself have considered a tribute build. I was working in Tampa in 2010 installing equipment into Tampa Police cruisers when I heard about the two officers that were killed during a traffic stop and the ensuing manhunt. Jeff Kocab was one of the officers.

I hope you dont mind but I gave your Tribute some exposure and sent a link to the build thread to 93.3 FLZ in Tampa for the MJ Morning show on Facebook. I dont know what if any help you may need or if you are aware of other tribute builds but I felt that this should be shared.
MJ is a big fan of the Blues Brothers and of Law Enforcement everywhere. His real name is Todd Shnitt.

I have been a lurker here for some time as I have limited funds and most upgrades to my pseudo P/T wanna be is my 1987 caprice daily driver. I love the builds going on here and have considered for sometime abut doing one of these Box chevys for a Law enforcement tribute build.

GREAT WORK so far... and keep it up. Any plans for showing the car at Local or state L/E functions? DARE? :D
Todd

Thanks for the encouragement and the support. I am greatful for any help I can get and love any exposure so thank you much for forwarding the build thread. Once completed, the car will actually travel all over. Of course I will be autocrossing and road racing the car whenever I can. It will be available to Law Enforcement Agency's as well as schools, festivals car shows, etc. In May of every year it will be driven to Washington D.C to attend the National Law Enforcement Memorial. Along the way, we will visit L/E agencies which have had officer's killed in the line of duty.

The car will also be used as a tool to bridge the gap between Law Enforcement Officers and at risk youth who grow up with a strong dislike of police officers. Should be a good time.

I can still use all the help I can to complete the build and raise money for my non-profit. If anyone out there can help, they can make a tax deductable donation on my web site www.inmemoryofthefallen.org

Hopefully we will have the front suspension completed by the end of next week. Then we can start working on the IRS and get some wheels ordered.
