Musclerodz newest project "PT-Blues"
Most here already know this car from the for sale section. It is now in the hands of a local customer and board member Matt. He was last in line to own this gem and had also put the car up for sale after only having it a short time, but decided to keep it and fix it which is we come in.
This Camaro had tons of potential, but fell way short during the assembly process. That and being blue is where I came up with the project name. Anyways, we will document the build and it will probably be 2 fold. Get the car mechanically sound we it can be driven this year, and then approach cosemetics at a later date. It is truly a 20 footer, nice enough paint you won't be ashamed to be seen in it, but if you get to close you start seeing lots of problems with alignments, gaps, bodywork, etc. I will be posting most the pics on facebook, but will post the more relavent ones here for your viewing pleasure. Here is the short run down on what is coming up for the car already set in stone. DSE subframe DSE Quadralink and new Moser 12 bolt rehooped front wheels and wider tires LS3 E-ROD 6 speed from American Powertrain Vintage Air Gen IV Vintage Air front runner drive Baer 6P brakes http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...65999250_n.jpg http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...63654542_n.jpg and one of my favorites http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...25374568_n.jpg |
When the car was posted in the for sale section -- just one glimpse of the engine bay told me everything I needed to know...
Glad he choose to fix it - and glad you got the job! |
Mike that is a very fitting name for this build. I have wanted a PT camaro ever since I was in college, and have been looking at the great cars on this forum since 04. I finally had enough $ to buy one, and I thought I was getting a quality car that needed to be cleaned up a little. Not sure why someone would buy a lot of big $$$ parts and throw it together in this way. After the car took some criticism on PT.com, and knowing its potential, I decided that it was going to get another chance. Thanks to this forum for helping me find a great builder to do the work.

Glad to see this one get some attention. It is loaded with potential.

Car has a ton of potential. The "rebirth" should be fun to watch.

After a long hard day, it is in pieces. Lots of laughs today taking this thing apart. I firmly believe some people do not need to own tools. You can see a lot of what we found on our facebook page, loaded another 18 pics few minutes ago. enjoy!

If you're NOT a pimply faced teenage girl -- how ya going to get on Facebook? I guess I'll have to have my daughter come over and show me the pics on her laptop.... Or not... :woot: Nice work Mike! Ya sure made quick work of it. |
Bubblegum, zipties, and a miracle kept this thing together on the okc crosstown. Funny Story..I was driving this car one day and a guy pulls up next to me and says" Hey man you have stuff flying out of the back of your car." Now I know why:lol:

Finally getting back to this project, had to completely re-skin a 68 Camaro that was not planned when project arrived, go figure. Anyways, in preparation for the new DSE sub, LS3 and 6 speed, I started on the firewall. Naturally, as with the rest of this car, the DSE firewall plate was butchered. So we removed it, replaced it, and then did not stop till I got to the other side of the firewall. Still a work in progress, but a good start. Sorry Matt, if you see this before you come by on Thursday. :D

I stopped by Mikes shop today to see the car, and its really starting to come along. I can't say enough good things about his knowledge and skills. Here is a few pics.

Thanks Matt, I got more photos of the carnage I will be posting later tonight. Disregard the angle of the shocks in Matt's pic, the upper brackets were not welded in place yet.
|
I think we made it to the bottom. We were concern about some of the metal work in the back of the car and decided to investigate. Between what we found and the hidden rust also present, our next big decision was made alot easier. We are slightly further along as Matt's pics shows, so more updates coming soon!
frame rail folded back and not welded, both sides were this way http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...71442150_n.jpg they attempted to glue bond the outer wheelhouse to the quarter panel, but forgot to clamp it down after laying a bead of glue http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...66099253_n.jpg which resulted in us doing this after we discovered the hidden rust http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...99128570_n.jpg trail fit of all the new sheetmetal http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...41914373_n.jpg new frame rail notched and plated correctly http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...48900445_n.jpg |
Mike, is this the one you just got in a few weeks ago? Your working pretty quick, Looks good so far. I think I have a project for the 6.0 I got.

Save the old quarters
Mike, If you haven't trashed the old quarters, would you be interested in cutting the artificial brake vents out? The stamped parts in front of the wheels. I am wanting to graft them into my quarters. I'll call you Tuesday. I would like to buy these sections. It's cheaper than buying entire quarters and shipping them truck freight just to cut this section out.
