two wheel addiction
So I made reference to it and Sieg even showed off himself dragging a knee while piloting his gorgeous 748 and it got me thinking who else is into bikes and has one or two? I've got two even though one is just a project bike.
My one is a Ducati Monster 1100s. This is the first Duc I've ever owned. These bikes are exotics to me since growing up as a kid. Even now, knowing they aren't rare or expensive typically, Monsters and Ducatis in general are just awesome to see. I love the single sided swing arm. You can not get any more gorgeous than having a single sided swing arm on your bike. The day I brought it home. I went from Pampa, Texas to Chicago and back in two and a half days. I was literally two blocks from Lake Michigan. http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...d/P1000627.jpg and here's how it sits as of today. I have many plans for this bike. http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...d/P1000704.jpg My second bike I got while I was living in Colorado. I had sold my SV650 that was my trusty commuter while I was in Georgia. I took a trip into the San Juan mountains with my truck and decided I couldn't live without a bike. I wanted something I could turn into a street fighter. So I found this 98 Ninja 9R and got it for $500. I'm a little frustrated with it at the moment but I still plan to turn it into a street fighter. I might even make it my track toy as that's something I would really like to participate in if for nothing else other than to sharpen my riding skills. Here's how it looks basically now. http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...d/P1000588.jpg I'm thinking at some point I'll end up with a Monster S4r. Those are the last generation and that particular model has the water cooled super bike 4v motor in it instead of the air cooled 2v motors like my current one. What can I say, I like v-twins. Especially nakeds. So those are mine. What are your rides? |
The Italian's sure know how to build a beautiful motorcycle. IMO the only thing that ruins them is the number of middle aged guys with 1098's 1198's etc that cant lean them over! My dream bike RSV4 :)
Track the ZX9, it's the most fun you'll ever have! Used to frequent track days here on an 08 ZX10R, ugly, but an insane machine. 190HP 180KG...absolutely useless on the street! 100+mph, knee on the ground, controlling (trying lol) the roll-on vs rear wheel slip...nothing beats it...well nearly nothing lol. |
I can't resist the bait  I had my first dirt bike in 1971 and first street bike in 1983.
Current off road bike 2011 KTM 300XC http://sieg.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/...66_bGPUg-L.jpg Current trials bike '06 Beta Rev250 http://sieg.smugmug.com/Other/Cycles...85_TrifU-L.jpg Current track bike '04 Ducati 749s https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._7173901_n.jpg Current street/track bike '08 KTM 990 Super Duke R (one of 100 brought into the US) http://sieg.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/...UTNz8-XL-2.jpg ...........and this addiction is why I don't have a custom chassis, big brakes, Mast motored and nicely painted Camaro. I'm approaching my mid-50's and a roll cage is looking pretty good. But the adrenaline rush and physical fitness aspects of the bikes are still addicting....... KTM 300 in Central Oregon: http://youtu.be/HW8-iEKUNX4 Testing the KTM 1190 RC8R at Fontana: http://youtu.be/bSUA-No8CYU Cars and Bikes will always be my true passion............right next to my beautiful wife. |
Wow, is that Super Duke gorgeous! Love naked bikes. Might get me a Ducati Streetfighter one day. All I know if I loved to have a water cooled Duc to complement my air cooled Monster.

I have a few friends with Streetfighters and they cross over well between street and track usage. The 848's are also a good ride. As is the 2011 and up KTM RC8R's, they are actually comfortable enough to do 400 mile days thanks to the adjustable bars, pegs, and subframe. Here's the Duc I had before the KTM came along. http://sieg.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/...6_jByYx-XL.jpg Post up your bikes people - current or past! |
This was my first bike, a JR50, and I haven't ridden since

Here's the ride I had that I should have kept.
http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/...cs/daytona.jpg I sold it six years ago and been missing it ever since. Great in the twisties and when the piped Triumph triple was at full song. :faint: Kevin |
I bet you miss it Kevin, Triumph's triples are great bikes.

Nice bikes guys.
Kevin, I thought about getting a Speed Triple instead of the Duc. The decision was very tough as I really like the last of the round eye bikes. The deciding factor for me was the weight. However, I think I need to go ride a Speed Triple one of these days just to know what it's like. I may like it more. |

When I was in the Detroit area, the Triumph dealership near me added the Ducati line to his Triumph, KTM and Gas Gas lineup. He would have open house days where you could ride either Triumph and/ or Ducati. I had a chance to ride the speed triple but the Ducati sign up was so long I didn't get a chance to ride the Monsters. :willy: The owner also had a turboed speed triple. What a ride that must have been. Another bike pic. My previous bike in the foreground fresh from the showroom - buddy's R1 in the background. That was a fun summer. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/...ics/Slide1.jpg Kevin |

My "daily driver" is an '07 R1. Sure makes the infamous 405 a lot more tolerable. (Here in CA it's legal to split lanes and use the carpool lane)
I also have a 1980 Husqvarna CR390 that is modified a bit. Actually, it's really a 250 CR with a same year 390 that was worked over by Uptite Husqvarna, '81 40mm forks, revalved Ohlins (rear), Circle F exhaust, 390CR tank, black plastic, etc. However, since I started building the '67 I haven't ridden this much at all. I had a second dirt bike (2000 Husky WR250), but sold that to buy my Miller welder. The best part is my wife also has a street and dirt bike, too. Seeing her in black leather pants.... :) |
I bought a KTM 990R a few months ago. It has been alot of fun.
