Texas Goat - 1965 GTO
After 6 years of hibernation in the garage, the Texas Goat is returning to the modern world, hopefully.
This is my 1st attempt at documenting a build, so hopefully it will be ok. I like reading the others and thought I would attempt it. Car is an original tri power, munci, red with black interior. I am "supposedly" the 4th owner, and prior to my kids being born and funds cut off, it was a daily driver. The car even moonlighted as a lawn service vehicle, I put the mower, weedeater and blower in the trunk and made some money! I have 3 kids with the oldest being 8 and youngest 2.... so hopefully the project will not stall:old: I am expecting to run out of money before I can afford paint, so there might be a part II after the motor and suspension are done. This will be updated on a Pontiac forum as well, that way I have all the bases covered... what I did not post over there is that the car will have full air ride, big brakes, etc... I did not want to scare off the GTO purists before the build got underway:lateral: My only questions so far, has anyone ever seen a Lavender fender on a GTO? http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...w/DSC05293.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...w/DSC05291.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...w/DSC05294.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...w/DSC05292.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...w/DSC05307.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...w/DSC05308.jpg |
Welcome and good luck with the project.

pretty much my favorite year and model Pontiac- enjoy!

Welcome to a fellow Texan and GTO builder. I think that lavendar color is officially called "iris mist". It is a relatively rare color.

Well, the weather did not cooperate for my plans so I ended up getting the front brakes ready and cleaning more stuff out from the interior. The spindles were ebay specials and I guess I forgot to take a pic before we cut them. This is a dirty car!

Welcome! I lived in Katy a while myself, not far from the Katy Mills Mall. Loved it there. I'm also doing full air-ride, I think you'll be happy with it, from what I've read anyway. Mine is forever from being on the road. Looking forward to your build.

What shop is that at? I live in the Woodlands but work in Westchase. Like to drop by sometime to check it out :) Always need to know more people/shops that are local!
Looks like a nice start on the GTO! |

http://st-autobody.com/ luckily my car does not need any body work so I will not need to be visiting them:thumbsup: (until paint:question: ) |
Another day of progress.... sadly finding rust under the rocker trim and a broken inner fender. I need to post in the thread about the garage built cars, the last pic is what conditions I am forced to work in!! :wow:

Just a couple of pics to show it is still in progress... a lot of scraping before the blasting starts. How long until winter???

Just building the parts up for now, my plans got sidetracked for a few... then I picked up a 68 Lemans which I hope to sell soon!

Just a pic to show the build is progressing (slowly)... Aircraft stripper and DA sanding when spare moments arise!

Back from hibernation...
Work is slowly progressing as I am learning the body trade. Sadly, the before pics were erased before I backed them up. http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...siblhhhe7.jpeg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...psn6ar0fbc.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...psgaxvikmy.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...psogycjps9.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...pspfenqky8.jpg http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...psy5tj50ep.jpg |
65 A-bodies are my favorite (I have a 65 Buick Skylark GS). Your project looks great and I love seeing builds happen at home with family.
Nice Job! Josh |

Nice to see another true 65 gto is under the knife. It's year four for mine and I still haven't finnished cutting it up,but soon.Sometimes taking the kids to soccer practice is way more fun then making a set of headers fit.Good luck with the build and I'll be sure to keep it on my short list of projects to watch.
