Picked up a new project

Found a 67 Chevelle a couple hours away from me and picked it up Saturday. Original paint, original family has owned it since new. Still has the protecto-plate and new manuals in the car. Paint is shot but all there; looks better in the pics. A couple rust holes in the corner of the trunk, otherwise none at all. Owners grand-daughter hit something on the passenger side when backing out of the garage so there's a couple low dents. Easily fixable, but a bummer as the car is totally straight. Anyway, I have to finish the GTO first but this will be next.

That, and I can't afford a Cuda! :D

almcbri 02-26-2006 06:40 PM

nice car! with that car being in your hands it is in for a good build. GTO? I didn't even know you were building a goat? What year?

Cool project though.

Steve68 02-26-2006 07:11 PM

Yea, whats this GTO crap, and hows the TT turbo car coming, I know you sold it but I know, you know, how it's progressing,

We had a 67 just like it,same color, nice 350, my dad let my mom have it and she traded it for a Lincoln this was around 76'

camcojb 02-26-2006 07:49 PM

The GTO is an 05, my new daily driver. Did a 402 stroker LS2 build for twin turbos and am in the middle of the swap.

XcYZ 02-26-2006 08:19 PM

The perfect victim! Welcome back to the old car world. I missed ya. :D

BTW, nice Steelers bobble head in the attached image. Is that thing life size?

907rs 02-26-2006 08:24 PM

Cool car, Jody! Do you have any plans drawn up yet for it?

Rybar 02-26-2006 08:26 PM

Nice score, can't wait to see what it ends up like.

Autokraft 02-26-2006 08:29 PM

Looks like a nice car Jody. Whats the plans? :D

jonny51 02-26-2006 10:12 PM

Looks like a nice clean one Jody.Since it's all original I guess your going to restore it to showroom condition and keep it all stock?

Sure!:unibrow:

pist0lpete 02-26-2006 11:50 PM

I must say you made a good choice in that purchase. Maybe I am biased becaause I have one haha. I wish mine would have been that clean when I got it but you really do have a great find there. There are alot of products coming to the forefront for A-bodies as I am sure you are aware so it should make a great G-machine should you choose that route. Good luck with the project!

Steve68 02-27-2006 05:21 AM

A new one, how do you like it, better when the new motor's in!

hapevo 02-27-2006 11:56 AM

Way cool Jody.

Can't wait to see the "finished product".

Speedster 02-27-2006 12:14 PM

As with all of your "little" projects...LOL, I can't wait to see the plans, the progress, the innovative details and of course the final result.

Blown353 02-27-2006 01:07 PM

The cat is out of the bag-- Jody is going Oakland "Scraper" style on this sucker-- Pearl orange paint, white interior with orange piping to match, custom body lift, 26" spinners, suction tips, a trunk full-o-beat, and a Goodwrench 350 with "da flows."

The "honeys" won't be able to leave him alone! :P

Geez Troy!!!!!!! :willy: Actually waiting on you, Dennis, Clint, and the gang to figure out "our" suspension. This will be fast, kinda old-school, and NOT a 6 figure build.

Blown353 02-27-2006 01:19 PM

Actually Jody, I have a complete parts and pricing list with everything needed for the "FrankenSuspension" setup. When I get home I'll dig up the spreadsheet and check it over again-- and I'll have Dennis look it over again too as the steering arm setup is kinda goofy (you buy one rear steer arm and one front steer arm, as if you buy a right and left front steer arm they're different length for "left turn only" ackerman reasons.)

I'm debating right now if I'm going to spend my tax return on some Sparco seats or the suspension... since I'm in the middle of removing my engine right now for a cam swap (which makes it really easy to change the UCA's and also get the LCA bolts out without hitting the headers) I'll probably be doing the suspension.

I take back everything I said in my earlier post except the Goodwrench 350. That thing is a beast! :P

Troy

Speedster 02-27-2006 02:14 PM

With your tax refund you can get that Pearl Orange Paint job that you always dreamed about. You know you want it. Your car would really scream, and we're not talking about the blower.

Actually, I *had* been considering orange or burnt copper for my car-- just not orange pearl. To have the really "ghetto fabulous" look the pearl has to be applied very splotchy.

promax/vennom#16 02-27-2006 05:45 PM

Like it!

Jody, Nice find!!The 67 is My all-time fav body style,I luv the body lines, looks like it's going 100mph standing still!! Are you going mild or wild with it? I have a Fresh 396 long block all deburred that would look nice in the engine compartment!!

Jody

This is one build I'm really interested in following. Should be fun.

Keith 02-27-2006 05:55 PM

Ummm...do you live in Norcal and does the car have a 3 on the tree?

Ah. I feel in love with my friend's grandfather's blue on blue 67 Malibu in '97 in San Jose. Looked just like that one and i took a bunch of pictures of it back then. Coincidently, I bought a triple black 67 Malibu that was my last daily driver for two years in 2002. If your's was the same car, I was going to offer you all the photos, tell you I knew the family and feel all special for a moment. Instead, I'll just tell you that it's a cool car and can't wait to see what you do with it. :D

Here's my old love....

Thanks Keith. The family I bought it from were the original owners of the car. Still has the protectoplate and warranty booklet, etc. That is a nice Chevelle you had there!

Jims78elky 03-08-2006 12:40 AM

Jody,

Great find! Iam sure you will show us the light on this new project! :hail:

My big brother had a 67 396 turbo 400 in the mid 80's that he got for
$1800.00 back "then" lol..I loved the interior in that thing..not a quick
ride, though the 396 could get going once in awhile... :unibrow:

I hope you enjoy the new project journey!

zbugger 03-08-2006 02:32 AM

Jody, awesome find. My personal favorite is the '66, but this one should be fine for you. Imagine, finally, a car you can actually fit in.....

Wow... You valley boys have it all wrong. It's not the pearl that makes it "ghetto fabuous". It's the Gold Flake paint!!! And it HAS to be blotchy and caked up in the body lines. :faint:

Kris Horton 03-08-2006 04:37 PM

I think another poster for the garage might be in order.... :unibrow:

CAMAROBOY69 03-09-2006 05:18 AM

This will be a really cool build. Dont see many 67 Chevelles with the Lateral G treatment.
Is Marquez Design already working on billet pieces for it??

He doesn't know about it yet, unless he read it on here. I don't work with him anymore, but we're still friends.

How have I missed this post for 2 weeks. Nice Score Jody!
So your gonna go with a nice maybe 265? Some dog dish hubs on 6 inch redlines? Maybe an upgrade to an 8-track, and maybe some new mono-leafs in the rear? ;)

You guys realize Jody's just copying Charley again, right? I mean, Charley gets the Malitude, and Jody just HAS to have a chevelle for himself too......

Two kinds of people out there:
Those that own a Chevelle/El Camino.

And those that want one.
