Ive been along time fan of g machine cars and the style of them but just never had a vehicle that would qualify as such. most were old chevy trucks. but I know have a 1969 mercury comet s door hardtop that will be a very good base for a project like this, or so I believe. It wont be as powerful or as fast as most of the rides on here but shell be mine. I hope you all like it and I hope to learn a lot from everyone here. OK on with the pics.
She has a lot of issues from the previous owner. like heated front springs for one. it has the original 250 I6 with the c4 trans, still not sure of rear axle. I'm thinking either a 302/347 or boosting the 250 after some much needed love. the suspension is pretty much shot so that will be the first thing to be remade. I did add the black stripes onto it to make it my own. thanks for looking. |
welcome to the site. Unique car, don't see a lot of those; should be a great project.

ya the fact that there is not to many of them makes it hard to find parts for it. but I do love that fact there are so few of them. from what I have found there was only 14,000 of them made.

good eye on the vette rims, I think there from a c5? I do have the original rims and caps for the car but no tires. Ya as far as the drive train Ill probably go strip an old fox body if i can find one that's not already gutted. I found a 351W that would be a great builder for a 408 platform.

A stock FI 5.0 and T5 or tremec is a cheap date to get a V8 drivetrain in place and sorted. It will be faster than your stock suspension and brakes can deal with. A big motor also require big cooling, trans, clutch, driveshaft, rear end ect so once you start the hp war you start the war on your wallet. JMO opinion but you can never have brakes or handling that are too much for your motor but you can definitely have a motor that is too much for the rest of the car. :D |
thanks for the replies. ya I agree about having to much motor and not enough brakes. I have actually found out torino parts might fit for converting it to front disc and I can find the parts to fit the rear axle for disc as well. I'm thinking adjustable coils for the front and rear just so i can adjust them for the way I drive and ride height. It sits way to low for my taste right now and ffor the roads here in colorado so sometime soon Ill be swapping out the ruined front coils and take the lowering blocks outa the rear.
