LS9 '67 Nova
Here's a fun project that showed up a few months ago. We had a client looking for a '66-7, who doesn't right? After looking around at a bunch of rusted out cars for $10K I made a few phone calls and came across a friend's '67 that was a Califorina car complete with one of the first LS9 crate engines!
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...33063950_n.jpg here it is the day we brought it back to the shop |
|
We came up with a plan to keep is looking fairly original with a few small details. Jet-Stream blue with basic interior, almost as if the car was built in 2012 by GM.
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ova/Apr13a.jpg At first we were going to put an AME frame under it but it was too clean to cut uphttp://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...00136576_n.jpg so we called Allen at DSE! |
Monday the BIG crate showed up

we are changing up the firewall to match the inner fenders, hiding the master cylinders and keeping everything hidden. http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...91000536_n.jpghttp://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...76471757_n.jpg

Gonna be nice, that LS9 is bad !!
|
Great combo. My father in law sold his ls9/t56 67 nova at bj Scottsdale. That was the fastest car I've ever driven. He wanted to use the dse susp but it wasn't out yet. Their front clip sure looks better than anyone else's
|
What a sweet combination! 66-67 my favorite years.
|
Bad ass project. Chevy II and an LS9 isn't going to suck. :unibrow:
|
Waaaay cool!
|
Looks like a killer project Chris! That DSE stuff is just killer. Easily the best stuff out there for those Nova's! Those inner fender's are sweet!
|
Awesome project! Keep us updated.
|
Should be a beast for sure!
|
Updates?
Any updates on this one guys?
|
your re sparking interist in my 67 nova !! great job so far and what a killer starting to pick it up with a ls9
|
We just got the wheels a few weeks back, I'll post some pics. It is one of my favorite cars in the shop. We are keeping it looking mostly stock.
The owner picked up a '70 Chevelle convert that we installed an LS3 535hp crate motor and a list of goodies...so the Nova got pushed back. |
liking this build, nice catch with the car BTW.
|
Chris car is looking awesome love what you guys are doing out there! Must be a great feeling to get up in the morning and go do what you love  I know I do!!
|
Cool. Looking forward to the pictures.
|
Let's see some pics of his Chevelle. Love this build.
|

it finally time!
Well the owner of the LS9 Nova had a few other cars in the shop. We finally are got them finished or almost finished. So I got to finally get some time on it.
If you remember we bought all that DSE offers for these little shoeboxes and I gotta tell ya, the design is amazing. We purchased the front clip powdercoated and assembled. I am now installing the tubs, quadralink and frame connectors. Here's a pic before I put it on the hoist today http://chrisholstromconcepts.com/wor...30293739_n.jpg Oh and we got in on Anvil's sale and got one of these:thumbsup: https://www.anvilauto.com/images/nov...thood_lg_3.jpg https://www.anvilauto.com/images/nov...thood_lg_4.jpg We are keeping the car relatively stock looking, no crazy mods, just simple stuff |
Chris looks great, is the hood flat or a cowl hood? I just love the 62 to 67 Novas

updates finally!!!
Well it's that time of year again when I kiss the rest of summer goodbye and start rocking on another SEMA build. Enjoy the updates
finishing the DSE install http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps7a6779f1.jpg final mock up pic before we ripped it back apart http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps562df27a.jpg |
we tried to fit aftermarket fenders and they weren't even close so we scored a set of NOS locally and the fit way better. the hood is from Anvil
AND back apart for underside prephttp://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps198cd385.jpg |
We went with Eddie Motorsports rear hinges and moved them in to clear the DSE tubs.
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps8115b397.jpg The car is going black with red interior so the wheels are getting changed out to....... Forgeline RB3C http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps10facbbf.jpg |
The car is going to look pretty sedate on the outside but the inside will look more industrial meets vintage Italian racing. That's what happens when you have a Ferrari shop across the parking lot:idea: here's the trunk
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...psfa53d505.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps0fc7040c.jpg |
gas struts go through oval holes
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps16ed1046.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps5efa3708.jpg |
Peterson, Thompson Automotive, Hector at Rick's and Carl at Vaporworx put in lots of advise getting this LS9 to play well. Here is the Dry Sump location
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps1c0fc4ed.jpg Vintage Air controller and A/C vents http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps7bd75650.jpg |
firewall
And the custom firewall that the previous build put in was removed to build something that matched the amazing DSE inner fenders
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps8e2e3545.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps9700a184.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...psb3fd883c.jpg |
We welded up the stock cowl vents but it didn't look right. So Rushforth and I fought over a better design. I thought a nice trim ring with mesh flush mounted would look good. He thought we should split it into two. so here ya go
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps38a2ed10.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...pse35d627b.jpg once it is all bolted down the trim will be polished and sitting flush Josh Ewing came though in a pinch again with some amazing metal work |
Once again we will be parked in the Dynomax / Rancho booth located inside the Central building in Hot Rod Alley up against the back wall.
