1973 Ford Maverick road & track BUILD
Hello, I'm building my first car into a road race/ autocross car. It's a 1973 Ford Maverick. I bought it my sophmore year in high school, that was 6-7 years back. At this point in time, the rust repair is near completion, and the car is completely stripped, and gutted. & I just recently started the cockpit, equipped with Coleman reverse mount hanging pedal assembly, Kirkey intermediate aluminum seat, collapse able steering column etc. I've installed Maier racing subframe connectors, and x-brace so far, for the chassis. Plans for a cage, custom front susp..probably adjustable double-a frame coil over, & for the rear a 3-link coil over . I'll hopefully be doing some of the work, at the shop after hours for a few weeks. Mike Maier -my boss, Is a wealth of knowledge, with loads of experience, I learn more and more about geometry, theory and straight up better fabrication skills, every single day as I apprentice Mike, on the chassis building level.. Now, I'll show you how I've been applying All of my new knowledge to my Maverick.
Here are some photos: When I bought it..2005 or 06?? http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...WYtbPNe5Eh.jpg Lowered, Interior, steel wheels, beauty rings, tucked and painted bumpers. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...Picture633.jpg Postin' it at a car show. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...Picture637.jpg Senior rides , In the year book. 2 Arroyo High School Car Show trophies. 1st best student car. 1st best under construction. I wanted to learn sheet metal repair, so i stripped it down! yikes! http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...icture1545.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...e/IMG_4202.jpg I had to cut this section out, It was rotten out.. You are a lucky guy learning from the guy you work for. Your metalwork is looking good so far keep at it. What are your plans for a motor and trans? |
Awesome. Another Maverick Those pics of the rust rot frighten me. One of these days I'll have to start over with mine.

Thanks guys, glad to be here where other like minded gear heads can appreciate what I'm transforming the car into. I've tried the maverick/comet forums, but I can only take so much shackles and jegs stickers.

Nice thread. Its gonna look sick when finished. That last pic is a sweet look!
|
Awesome project! I will be there on the 21st to hopefully score some Subframe connectors, was bummed that Mike said the new LCA's wont be available by the BBQ.
|
Yeah, but there will be some proto types on display for you to look at.
See you there! |
Already seen the prototype for 65-66. long story short my current front suspension is causing my LCA to hit my R&P bracket, when I seen the new arms at GG there was the beam of light from god shinning down on it and it was the solution to my problem , at that time mike said they would be ready for the open house. When I talked to him a few weeks back it sounded like he wasnt sure when the 68-70 would be ready, art this point Im trying to raise funds and will probably go DSE and ditch my whole setup. heres the pic of the new stuff I took at the goodguys show:

Here Is my buddy Nick, he's helping build my motor, Nick's a professional tuner, and engine builder. I'll be leaving most of the motor work up to him, Plans are using roller internals in my factory block, high compression flat top pistons, cam etc. details as they come..
