Who has the lightest car here?

I'm curious, of the guys with muscle cars, who has the lightest car here?

Mine is probably right around a thousand pounds. But I'm sure it doesn't qualify because it's not assembled yet. :P

3150lbs wet plus driver. Has iron small block and all steel body. No fiberglass at all. t could be way lighter.

I used the portable scale at a local tractor-pull. That was no-driver, full tank. Maybe it was inaccurate???

PhaseShift 03-09-2006 03:44 PM

My RS is about 2800 without fuel. I still think that is too much.

If you're under 3000 you're doing pretty good. I'd be thrilled to get below 3500.

XcYZ 03-09-2006 05:18 PM

Phil, what would change to drop the weight more? LSx powerplant? Composite body panels? There's nothing to your car now, there's not much left to whittle down. :D

My 55 weighs about 7000.. Do I win a prize ?

race-rodz 03-09-2006 09:23 PM

wow...my crew cab dually tips the scales at 6800, and the sad part is...i bet that 55 wil tow more if needed.

3000hp and 7000 lbs isn't a ratio. :D

I have a scale reciept from the 80's for my NovaSS 3350LBS but it now has a BBC and a glass hood, so back to the scale!

I think the motor swap will be a wash- we can save some weight on the block and intake, but add some back with the turbo chargers, plumbing and intercooler.

Where I would look to save weight (and may later on)-

The hood weighs a lot- it is a reproduction hood and is heavy.

The rear end assembly-
**The LCA's are very heavy; I plan to make some new trick ones out of 7075 when we get time freed up in our machine shop. I am also thinking about doing a new set of half-shafts as well. We can make all that stuff; it is just a matter of freeing up time.
**I would love to make an entirely new rear end setup based on an aluminum center section and other light weight components.
** Wheels- The wheels are actually pretty heavy; maybe upgrade to some BBS wheels sometime?

Nova

Even though my 67 Nova is not complete or should I say it has'nt even been started, the estimated curb weight is suppose to be around 2700lbs with a big block.
(Hey guys, don't say anything but the body is fiberglass!! )

My 73 camaro is 3250lbs That is with heavy wheels and tires full glass and all metal. I have on order some 18" boyds that should take about 30-40 pounds off that number.

Steve Chryssos 03-10-2006 03:11 PM

I have no door glass. No front or rear window regulators. The rear quarter windows are fixed pieces of lexan. I will be installing functional door glass for Power Tour, but other than that, I think door glass is for girlie men :_paranoid

And there's no windshield on my motorcycle. I eat the bugs.
