Going from auto - manual (t56 style) - NEED HELP
Ok I am going to be purchasing a t56 this weekend from a Ls1 camaro and I was wondering what do I need to take from the car to be able to use it on the chevelle. Make me a list :D
|
Anyone? I'm going here in a few hours, let me know what I need to take...
|
tranny
get the complete tranny, bellhousing, and all hydraulics, then you will need to talk to ATS
|
What about pedals? can i make those work?
|
you can make anything work if you have the time, but i woul djust get the pdeals out of a chevelle with manual trans and call ats
|
Here's your list:
1) Purchase a manual pedal assy for your year/model. 2) Call Tyler at ATS for the rest. |

You will need to get a crossmember (the ATS unit is the nicest) and you will need a few brackets. I am unsure if you will need a modified cluch master to fit your firewall. Call Tyler at ATS.. Oh get all the wireing connectors from the doner car (like for the nutral safety and that stuff) |
Alright cool, Ill make my own crossmember, I'll take the one from the camaro and use it for a template. But um... what is ATS's website or number??
|
Wow guys. Thanks for beating ATS into his skull. Now he might be afraid of us. ;)
projekt70chevelle- The website is www.t56kit.com, and our number is on the contact page. We've got you covered for the T56 install parts. Your best bet is to stick with the clutch/brake pedal assembly from the same year A body that you have. With a simple firewall mounted bracket, a 3pc tubular crossmember, and modified GM master, you can bolt in a T56 with little modifcation. You unfortunate A body guys do have to remove the tunnel and fabricate a larger one due to the T56 overall size, and the tiny trans tunnel located in your massive land yacht. Also if not using a matching LSX engine, you will require a special adapter plate to mate the LSX style T56 to a SBC or BBC. Don't hesitate to call on us for any T56 or LSX questions you might have. Why couldnt I use the bellhousing from the LT1, or are you talking about the hole for the shifter to come through?
|
lt-1
you can use the bellhousing from the lt-1 and go directly to the 2 peice rear main seal block, then get the conversion flywheel from mcleod, centerforce, ram, spec and also the pull off style clutch
BUT in your first post it says ls-1 t 56 which has a longer input shaft so you will need the mcleod modular belhousing (which comes with adapta pilot bushing) so it spaces the ls-1 t-56 the correct amount off the 2 peice rear main seal block, then you will need whatever 168 tooth flywheel for your motor(depending on internal or external balance of motor) and a ls-1 style push on clutch.so what year tranny is it? if its 93-97 you need 1.tranny with bellhousing 2.153 tooth flywheel for lt-1 t-56 to 2 peice rear main block and lt-1 hydraulics 3. pull off style lt-1 clutch which is 10.5 big and not desirable for high hp/tq if its a 98-03 t-56 1.tranny 2.mcloed bellhousing for retrofit of ls-1 t-56 to 2 peice rear main block 3.a comparable clutch for set up, a twin disk or a 12 inch single disk 4.stock ls-1 hydraulics which ls-1 has a hydraulic throwout bearing again call ats |
You can't use the LT1 bellhousing for a few reasons:
1. the input shaft on an LS1 style T56 is 3/8" longer than a T56 from an LT1. The input shaft would be inside your crank with an LT1 bellhousing. 2. The LS1 uses a hydraulic throw out bearing, and the LT1 uses a hydraulicly actuated clutch fork, and bellhousings are setup accordingly. The tunnel on the A body is too small for a T56, hence the tunnel cutting. There is no way it will fit in there as is. Once the new tunnel is fabbed and welded in, you will still need a shifter hole. Well what do I need to buy from you to make this work? Dont forget the prices :D
|
dude
you need to figure out what year tranny you have then we can help or tyler can tell you
|
I Pm'd tyler what I got... But I dont have it yet the guy went on a cruise so I guess I still got time to back out... Its out of a 2000 ss camaro. But he did offer me his other ls1 complete for $1k, but it has a knock... So if I go the ls1 route I wont have to worry about adapters just cutting and rewelding.
But I guess it would be better, I mean easier and cheaper to go with the 93-97 trans setup |
