'72 Gremlin w/ Schwartz Performance G-Machine Chassis... and a v8...
Yup, you read that correctly.
The owner has always wanted a Gremlin, and once he finally had it, he decided he wanted to embarrass Corvettes... So, he called Schwartz Performance. The car was originally a v6, so he needed more power, but wanted to keep the AMC heritage intact. A built AMC v8 engine solved that problem. Once the car made it to Schwartz Performance, we assessed the situation and decided the best way to fit our G-Machine Chassis was to retrofit a first-gen Camaro chassis (The other option was a Mustang chassis). Basically, we shortened the wheelbase. We wanted a lower than average stance, so we integrated the frame into the car more than normal. This wasn't our typical bolt-in installation. The Gremlin doesn't have a great deal of rake into its body design, so we raised the front fenders 2 inches for a more aggressive look. This car is truly going to be an autoX, autocross monster. It has suspension and brake upgrades — RideTech tripple-adjustable coilovers & Baer Extreme Plus 6-piston caliper with 14in drilled rotors. We minitubbed the rear to fit 18x12 wheels with 335/30/18 BFGoodrich KDW tires... "Where's the rest of your car.... Toots" (Old Gremlin Commercial)
Cool build and glad it's staying AMC powered. They were actually very successfull in IMSA road racing back in the day. Good luck |

Love this project as you might expect.
Slammed gremlins always look very good:http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...k/IMGP1074.jpg I am currently building/restoring an old IMSA RS gremlin to race in the vintage events, so I'm limited on my modifications, ;) https://lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=31588 As mentioned earlier, Gremlins and Spirits have had very good success in the IMSA RS series in the early 70's so while this build may seem odd to some, these cars have been used on road courses for a long time:thumbsup: The suspension modification techniques used here would work on just about any AMC, it would be very cool to see a later 'humpster' Javelin modified like this Gremlin, the large-by-huge wheels would look appropriate inside those wheel humps! If you only need an inch of hood clearance the stock hood bulge could be raised and still look mostly stock. Just an idea. |
This is awesomely unusual..........
I love it |

 Thanks! And you're right, the suspension mods we're doing can be done to any AMC, because our G-Machine Chassis can be installed in ANY car. We have 23 standard plug-n-play models for the G-Machine Chassis, but we love out-of-the-box applications. About the hood, we've talked at length about that. Some of us want to make a scoop out of it, some want to raise the bulge so it looks more stock, some just want to make simple cowel-scoop hood... final decision is up to the owner... we'll see what happens... |

And regarding the hood, he said he's on the hunt for a fiberglass cowl hood. |

Here is an earlier version of the car Schwartz is putting together:thumbsup: This thing rocks... or should I say it's groovy:P
It has a bit of a cowl hood on it too, I've not seen another like this before. |
Has this angry little car seen any more progress?
