Red Devil vs 2012 ZL-1 at Gingerman Hot Rod TV

camcojb 07-27-2012 07:20 AM

just watched it with my wife, great video Mark.

Payton King 07-27-2012 07:37 AM

Gotta give you

two thumbs up on that one

strtcar 07-27-2012 07:47 AM

awesome.

ironworks 07-27-2012 07:58 AM

That says alot about both cars.

Mark's car can beat all the engineering that GM has spent. I would guess Gm tested the camaro for more laps on the track then Mark has put on the Red Devil.

GM can build a car and warranty it for 100k miles that is close enough even give Mark's car a run for it's money for 55K.

I guarantee Mark spent 55k on just the engine, trans and suspension parts with wheels and brakes.

Cool Video.

Sales@Dutchboys 07-27-2012 08:11 AM

That car is just badass. Period.
Car looks great!

chr2002ca 07-27-2012 08:24 AM

That's a killer review of both vehicles. I'll definitely be watching that a few more times. Thanks for sharing.

73CPCAMARO 07-27-2012 08:27 AM

Very cool video showing two incredible cars. Good job Mark!

califconstruct 07-27-2012 08:31 AM

Cool Video!.. quite the match up.

DFRESH 07-27-2012 08:50 AM

Man, is that cool. Mark, will it somehow be possible to adopt the new Magnetic suspension into one of your upcoming builds?

Doug

:D This put a big smile on my face! Mark will have a little extra swagger around the GM water cooler today.

67ragtp 07-27-2012 08:52 AM

Very cool video, great job Mark. The 1LE camaro is coming soon, has all the suspension goodies the z has with the exception of the magnetic shock system. Awesome daily driver. Its cool making the comparisons, the z is a 4000 lb car :wow: , I think it did phenominal against Marks beast. Really enjoyed that

Thanks guys. I knew the GM Camaro guys would say I was sand bagging if I did not set a good lap time in the ZL-1. The Camaro guys told me the Automobile Mag lap times so I knew the bogie. Once I sorted out the ZL-1's no lift shift I was able just keep the gas pinned and row the gears. The ZL-1 is a great track car. The guys shooting the video drove the car over from Detroit then drove it back home at the end of the day.

I did my personal best in Red Devil at Gingerman to beat it. I would also like to thank, Jason (The new owner of Red Devil) to allow me to take it the track and beat on it. I gave him a ride in "his" car and he was blow away. We just beat on both cars then put them away.

It was a great day.

Mark

Sieg 07-27-2012 09:59 AM

Good stuff Mark!

Speaks volumes for both cars.

JMitch19 07-27-2012 10:14 AM

Wow, that is impressive. I assume those lap times were on the long course? I just looked back at last years MotorState Challenge time(this year was on the short course) and Danny Popp's best time in the Vette was 1.40.5. A 1.39.5 is killer. The 1.42.x in the ZL1 would have been good for the second best lap time at the 2011 MotorState Challenge. Not bad for a bone stock car with a 100k powertrain warranty.

66SuperSport 07-27-2012 10:35 AM

Congratulations Mark on setting incredible times in both cars. You definitley were pushing yourself hard and made this a very fair challenge. Nice job! :D

OLDFLM 07-27-2012 10:51 AM

A 67... but I'm still hoping Mark will do a 70-73 one day soon!

Rybar 07-27-2012 10:54 AM

That was pure awesomeness at it's best. Thanks Mark and Hot Rod for the entertainment

Flash68 07-27-2012 11:10 AM

What a great video. A testament to the cars themselves and Mark's ability as a driver. Most people aren't going to sniff those times or even close.

And Red Devil has to be the best sounding LS motor I've ever heard online... the combo of the blower and exhaust is on the money.

Spiffav8 07-27-2012 11:27 AM

Nicely done Mark. Really enjoyed the video!

Stuart Adams 07-27-2012 12:51 PM

Great video. Really enjoyed it. Red Devil speaks for itself, kudos to GM for upping the performance of the new camaro bigtime. Great off the showroom floor car for the money.

Sandbagger 07-27-2012 04:29 PM

That had to be on the new pavement over there .
Last time I was there they were digging for the new track section .
How is the last turn near the pits ?
Excellant comparison

Chad-1stGen 07-27-2012 04:46 PM

Sweet, now that was a fun vid to watch!

Man I love Red Devil :)

Steve1968LS2 07-27-2012 04:48 PM

So, we learned that hp-to-weight ratio is important...

I wonder how much more power the ZL1 would need to catch up considering the cornering was the same.

Nice vid and congrats to Stielow and the ever badass Red Devil.

coolwelder62 07-27-2012 04:59 PM

Now that's the kinda TV we all want to see.

SnakeEater 07-27-2012 05:40 PM

Excellent video

Definitely one of my favorite videos. Both cars are awesome.

214Chevy 07-27-2012 09:00 PM

I love how Red Devil whined when it came around the corner and Mark had his foot in its a$$. Music to my ears!!

Or how much less weight ala Formula 1.

I wonder how many unncessary pounds are on the ZL1?

GregWeld 07-27-2012 09:37 PM

Way too much fun!

Good job Mark...

While the outcome was hardly surprising.... it really does say a lot about the ZL-1... 'cause we all know that you can engineer a great car.

Vegas69 07-27-2012 09:46 PM

The car is one thing but to take out an Indy lights driver, hell yes.

Everybody and their Mom can buy a 2012 ZL-1, Red Devil is one of a kind. I do agree that the performance of the new ZL-1 is undeniable for 55k. It's just ordinary, that's all.

67zo6Camaro 07-27-2012 09:55 PM

Anybody feel like building a new project car? I know I do after watching that. Todd? anybody else?

fleet 07-27-2012 09:57 PM

Often I end up cringing when I hear the automotive media talk about 'pro-touring'.

Not in that vid.

Congrats Mark.

Ummgawa 07-27-2012 10:24 PM

Wicked. Mark, you da man.

tmadden 07-27-2012 10:27 PM

Awesome video!

NovaBlue71 07-28-2012 07:11 AM

Cool video Mark. Red Devil has exceeded beyond what anybody has ever done with a 69 camaro what more can you say. That car sounds so angry coming down the strait away and hearing the supercharger whine.Congrats Mark, and tip of hat to Jason (new owner) for bringing it out to do this. Joe.
