I am kinda new to the site. I am intruducing you to my money pit. We don't know what her name is,as of yet. Maybe you can help?
Here is my vision. My car was purchased 2 years ago. It is a really nice car. All original panels. And I mean ALL of them. The car is very straight. My vision is to go pro touring. Ls2 automatic. Ford 9", leather interior A/C Kore 3 with Z06 brakes. Here is what I have done so far. I have completely disassembled and mounted on my rotissorie. Converted the bench seat mounts to buckets. Painted the underside and the floors. Then we also cut the roof off and replaced it. The previous owner put a sunroof in it. I will update you as I go on. I am in the process of sorting through my digital pictures and posting them. I will post the link if you are interested in following along. If you have any comments or ideas please let me know. Thanks Tom |
Welcome. Sounds like a good plan to me. Will you be putting all the side moldings back on or what do you have in mind so far in regards to paint?

When I purchased my car. Included was all the chrome (NEW in packages) including California one peice bumpers.
Here is my goal. I talked to the guy who owned this red one in the picture. I really like the red insert. They normally have white or silver sometimes even black. I like it in the red. My car will be BLACK, with black leather interior. Also using Dakotas new gauge set up. The VHX series. Heres a picture of the red impala. Picture this in black. Tom |
Tom, great project. Glad you posted it up!

Thanks,I can't wait to get it done. I have been looking for this car for almost 15 years (in the condition it is) I wantedsomething willall original panels. I ended up with this one. And very happy. I cant wait til she's done.:unibrow: Tom |
Solid black will look great. Did they make a black with red inlay? Maybe that would be a good selection? I've seen cars from the 50s and 60s that instead of having all the chrome trim on them, painted the car as if the trim was there and then used a pinstripe in the same manner as the trim. To me, that's a fantastic way to keep the original type paint but update it to custom. Regardless, the more this build style grows, the more I like seeing the original lines and styling of the cars preserved but everything else being updated. In this case, a modern 61 Impala. I dig it.

As far as I know they made a blackwith red inlay. I figured I would start out with the all black look. I f I find I don't like it I can have it painted.

I couldn't agree with you more. My first car when I was in high school was a 67 Impala SS 396 4 speed. Bought it for $243. I like my impalas..... |
thanks only problem with the stance is it needs to be 2 inches lower since in the photo its in the grass
|
I hate speed bumps............
|
it should clear around here though most are only 4.5 inches tall so the 2 inch drop should work out fine teeehee
|
Bag it
|
if only i had the $ im going to get coilovers so i have some adjustability i work in a dirt floored 4 bay garage so getting on the ground doesnt bother me haha here you can spot the rust to the front of the weel opening and i done some exploration on the bottom of the fenders and it looks like they will need a small patch like you stated this is all original sheet metal so im coming out pretty good for a North Carolina car plus it was bought and owned localhttp://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ma...f5vho1_500.jpg

Nice. I like it.
|
sorry for sorta hijacking your thread but in some ways our cars are few and in between in regards to pro-touring fashion its refreshing to see someone else fixing one up if you start a build thread im definitely subscribing
|
It's all good. Were all in this hobby together. It's nice to see people appreciate big bodied cars.
|
i couldn't have said it better my self
|
Tom, have you seen Red Sled that was done on the Speed channel "Musclecar" show?
It was pretty cool, the chrome was painted similar to what was mentioned. It might be worth looking up for some inspiration. Robert |
Nice project. It looks in great shape.
