1969 Camaro - Goodguy's Project G/RS (Built by Ridetech)
Project G/RS
Goodguys Rod & Custom Association's 1969 Camaro – Built by Ridetech http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum...aro/sketch.jpg Ridetech's newest project is now at the point that we're ready to start posting more information about it. We've been throwing up information about the project on our website for a while now (http://www.ridetech.com/69camaro/), but now we're ready to start posting updates here on Lateral-G as well. Overview RideTech speaks hotrods! So does Goodguys...that is why Goodguys has selected RideTech to build their new 1969 G/RS Camaro! RideTech and Goodguys have had a long business relationship that spans over 15 years…including building their 70 Chevelle giveaway car in 2008 and their 70 Nova giveaway car in 2010. Unlike those 2 giveaway program cars, the G/RS Camaro will be a permanent fixture of the Goodguys stable and will driven to most of the events in 2013 and beyond. Here's the basic synopsis: The G/RS Camaro will feature many of the typical protour type components: - Supercharged LSA engine from GM Performance Products - Tremec T56 Magnum 6 speed - Moser rearend - Baer Brakes - RideTech coilover suspension and TigerCage - Flowmaster exhaust - Forgeline wheels - Vintage Air A/C system - Kicker Stereo - Marquez interior and billet components - Interior by Hudson Rod and Custom - Dakota Digital VX Series guage pod - PPG paint - Flush windshield and backglass by Classic Auto Innovations - American Autowire wiring - Fuel tank by Ricks Stainless Tanks …and more goodies from Ricks Camaro Parts and Speedway Motors It will also have some tasteful and subtle body and trim changes as you can see from the rendering. The bumpers and stripes will be metalfinished, the glass flushed, the driprails removed, special lighting created...and more mods you’ll have to hunt for. Construction on the Camaro began in April. When completed look for it to hit some of the various track day events across the country, including the Goodguys autocross series. Text from GoodGuy's site: "The Goodguys Rod & Custom Association will be forever tied to the Thom Taylor-penned cartoon of Gary Meadors ’32 Ford sedan. Meadors’ famed sedan has stood tall as the GoodGuys logo for close to three decades. The bright yellow sedan has crisscrossed the country dozens of times and racked up over 200,000 thousand road miles spreading the Goodguys spirit nationwide. It now has company. A new project is currently underway to build upon the Goodguys legacy. "Project G/RS" – a ground hugging, pavement-pounding ’69 Camaro Muscle Machine will be added to the Goodguys stable this fall. The Goodguy-yellow Camaro will essentially be used to further promote the Goodguys brand throughout the country on the open road as well as on the Goodguys AutoCross course and other driving events. Handling the build is Bret Voelkel and his talented Ridetech team in Jasper, Indiana. "We are honored to be chosen to build the new Goodguys Camaro" said Voelkel. We’ve built 2 very successful giveaway cars for Goodguys over the years and now get a chance to do this Camaro – one that will be in the organization forever. It’s fun to work with people who share a common vision for what this car should be… I’m looking forward to the build, and to watching the Goodguys team enjoy the finished car for years to come!" The car will feature General Motors’ new LSA engine, TREMEC six speed transmission, complete RideTech Suspension, Moser rearend, PPG Paint, Baer brakes, Forgeline wheels, BF Goodrich rubber, Vintage Air A/C, Dakota Digital gauges, Interior by Hudson Rod & Custom, RECARO seats, a fuel tank by Rick’s Tanks, American Autowire Harness as well as other goodies from Speedway Motors and Rick’s Camaro Parts. "The Goodguys Rod & Custom Association and my dad's yellow '32 Ford sedan are known throughout the world," said company president Marc Meadors. "Gary’s '32 will be forever tied to Goodguys and all we do. We wanted to add to that legacy by building a muscle car and adding it to the Goodguys logo and company theme – something that represents the current landscape of hot rodding. Much like my father’s hot rod, this Goodguy-yellow Camaro will be driven hard and shared with cars guys and gals nationwide." I have been fallowing this build on your web site and you guys are doing an amazing job! In many cases the rendering is better than the actual car but this is one of those cases were the actual build is coming out way nicer than the original concept. Looking forward to seeing it come together.

I have seen this camaro in person it's going to be pretty cool.

The project started with dis-assembly. Within a couple of days the build team had successfully dismantled the entire car to it’s bones. The original 69 camaro was in decent running shape before it came apart. http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p1/1.jpg http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p1/2.jpg http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p1/3.jpg http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p1/4.jpg |
George keep the updates coming. Glade to see you guys do this build! I have a new found respect Mr Voelkel and the way he conducts buisness, first class all the way ! Good things come to good people!
ps, You guys will be hearing from me soon.. |

The next step of the process was sanding down every part to bare metal, nothing was left to rust. http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p2/1.jpg http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p2/2.jpg http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p2/3.jpg http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p2/4.jpg |

Looking great guys!

Cool, thanks for following guys!
Getting the doors flush were an initial priority. Kurt (one of the builders) decided to put the rear bumper flush along the sides, should look really clean. http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p3/1.jpg Ringbrothers hood hinge http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p3/2.jpg http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p3/3.jpg http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p3/4.jpg |
Great job on the rear bumper. That's like the 4th one copying Rogers..........:_paranoid

The car got tigercage'd http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p4/1.jpg Here's a picture of the original bumper being modified http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p4/2.jpg http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p4/3.jpg Working on the lower half of the rear end, exhaust ports http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p4/4.jpg |
Starting to look a more modified:
Marquez designed interior http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p5/1.jpg Was there any doubt that we would put our StrongArms/spindles on the car? :P http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p5/2.jpg Bumper laying flush with the sides http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p5/3.jpg Extending the lower sides a couple inches for a more robust look. http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p5/4.jpg |
Changed up the side vents, this picture doesn't show it but we cut a tunnel out through the wheel well so the vents are actually functional.
http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p6/1.jpg Moser Rear end for the car arrived http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p6/2.jpg Forgeline wheels for the car http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p6/3.jpg http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p6/4.jpg |
front fender mods?
Are you using a 18x10" with 5 3/4 B.S. wheel on the front? If so, I would be VERY interested in close-up pics and details of mods on the front fenders / inner fender wells.

Here's a picture of the front fender, though we may end up modifying it even more: http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p7/6.jpg Here are some of the latest and greatest pictures of the car: An LS motor was put in for fitment purposes, the car will end up with a supercharged LSA engine http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p7/1.jpg Tremec T56 Magnum 6 speed http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p7/2.jpg http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p7/3.jpg http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p7/4.jpg A nice new shiny Ridetech camaro gas cap http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p7/5.jpg |
Look's Great. And those RideTech suspension componet's will make it a real good driver.

thats what i went with. 18.9.5 with 6.375 offset ga3s. Mine are going on a 67 with dse subframe but i can put them on a 69 on a dse subframe and you could prob fig out the different offset that you would need |
George, love the build...I'm another '69 owner and am looking forward to the exact spacing on the front rims as well. The more pics the better with the fender lip and wheel well mods.
Also, when you get to the rear, I would really like to know what backspacing and rear end dimensions you guys came up with. The upcoming tax return will be spent on all Ridetech suspension, so I'm following this build closely! Can't wait for more updates, Matt |

Looking for the Tax return season myself :captain: Looking to go coilovers or air? whos door handles did you use?
|
door handles
The door handles are from a 1980 XJ Jag. They work killer on Camaro's and Mustangs as I have them on both.
Goodguys is looking forward to getting this Camaro out on the track as it will be driven everywhere it goes. AutoCross bound for sure..... Goodguy Ed |
Popped in the Supercharged LSA engine from GM Performance Products.
http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p9/1.jpg Making sure the Recaro seats will fit right, sneak peak at the center console http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p9/2.jpg More front end work http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p9/3.jpg Car will be using a PRC Radiator http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum/gg-camaro/p9/4.jpg |
Working on new front bumper brackets since the headlights were modified. The front bumper itself has been heavily modified to give it a “sharper” look. Lot of other fab work going on to make the front end look cleaner.

Coming along very nicely.

Nice work, its going to be an awesome ride. I love that motor!

Got a few updates, working hard on the car while shaking off hangovers from our company Christmas party. Been keeping up communication with GoodGuys, everything is on schedule.
Both wheels on checking fitment, they're going to look sick once the car is painted. http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum...maro/p12/1.JPG Tranny tunnel welded up some more http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum...maro/p12/2.JPG Can't go wrong with Hooker headers http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum...maro/p12/3.JPG Moser readend with Ridetech 4-Link and rear musclebar. Checking angles. http://www.ridetech.com/images/forum...maro/p12/4.JPG |
Looking good!

This is one nice 69. What motor conversion mounts did you use? Did the hooker header fit on the driver side with no mods?

I really like what your doing, especially the back end. Nice Job.

The guys are still hard at it on the metal details on the car. Heres some quick shots of a few of the engine compartment upgrades. You can see more detailed pics over at http://www.ridetech.com/69camaro/

I really like what's going on the air intake.

Big Rodger, It is Vintage Air....Now get back to working on my Camaro...
|
It started as a Vintage Air Front Runner LS kit. We had to clearance the throttle body and intake for alternator. The kit uses ATI damper so we were able to space Lingenfelter's lower pulley onto the dampner And their supercharger snout conversion. We did have to build the tensioner setup for the SC belt.
