Stielow's Latest Camaro
The May issue of Hot Rod magazine contains a press release on Mark's latest Camaro. It sure looks like John McBride did the rendering. As you might expect, the car carries Mark's clean and simple trademark look. At the same time, some dark 18" Fikse wheels (sorry, no dubs) add a dimension style and function to the otherwise white exterior. McBride can make anything look good. Drivetrain is a hybrid fuel Ecotec 4 banger. NAW! I'm just yanking on your spline. Relax! It's a LS7/six speed. A stock clip will carry DSE suspension and the back end will have a DSE Quadra-Link. Brakes are from Baer.
As the car represents his tenth first-gen project, it's called Project X. Gosh, that sounds familiar? I'm not sure if that's pronounced "ex" or "ten". :_paranoid Nobody's perfect. A name change might be in order. Hey, even Ferrari screwed up when they called their latest super car the Ferrari Enzo Ferrari. People call that particular Ferrari the Enzo, I'll just call this car Stielow-X. No I will not scan in the picture for you as I am on the road. Go get a copy of Hot Rod for yourself. Lots of killer P-T stuff in that issue. It might not be out for a week or two though, so be patient. (I got mine here at the Hot Rod & Restoration Show in Indy) |

Don't look for monthly chapters on the buildup. Mark is very busy at work so he couldn't commit to a deadline every 4 weeks.

It's not my place to say since it's Mark's project, but he's well into it. How about it Mark, got any pics to share since it's now public? :thumbsup:

I have a feeling it will look something like this one, minus the stripes and with a deck spoiler. Note the is NOT Stielows car, although it did inspire me to get black wheels.

To the question on "how far along is it?"
Chassis - All the chassis modifications are done using a combination of ATS spindles and DSE parts Drivetrain - All the powertrain has been modified up and trial fit in the car. I'm using ATS engine mounts, tranny cross member for a T-56, ATS headers and a C-5 Corvette accy drive for the LS7. The hardest part of installing the LS7 is the dry sump oiling system. I had ATS make me a pan that fits the engine and a '69 stock fron clip. Should work good. Paint and Body - The body is at Perfomance Restoration get preped for paint. I don't post that often so if someone can tell me how to insert some images I'll post them. |

The press release definitely says Project X --not Camaro X. But that's press releases for you. Also, McBride's signature is barely visible in the shadow behind the front tire. Glad to see that the car has an old school intake manifold. :thumbsup:

LS7 Controller
I'm going to use UMI Racings MEFI4 controler and mech. throttle body on my LS7. We have ran a few of these and they work great. Unlike the mock up photo I'm staying with the stock intake for now.

You know it. Mark builds awesome pro touring cars. I want to see what he would do with a Monte. Vette suspension all around maybe? Twin turbo injected aluminum 406 with SB2.2 heads? Who knows, I know it would be a great car. Scot |
We are in the process of building an oil tank for a customer car (dry sump early SBC). It should be very cool and perfectly functional, fits in the same spot but has a significantly different form factor than the typical round circle track tanks. And you don't need to cut the inner fenderwell..... Looks like it is too late for this car, but if you change your mind, we should have a computer model of it in a few days, with the prototype within a few weeks thereafter.
