Looking to buy 2nd Gen 70-81 Fbody LSx Swap Headers.

Just like the title says, I am looking for some swap headers for 70-81 Fbody for the LS1 swap in my 1976 Trans Am. If you have something, let me know. I would be interested in a shorty header, mid-length or Long tube design. Let me know if that is something you have.

I would even be interested in a set of stainless steel headers, even if they aren't specifically for the 2nd gen's. I would be willing to bend them as long as they are stainless.

I am looking for something similar to that, but they are for the 67-69 Camaro and 68-74 nova. Will those fit my application? Has anyone tried those headers for Second Gens?

Ryan, I may be pulling shortly some headers our, either Dynatech or Sanderson headers. Kepe in mind the Dyna are a

Check these out as well, I bought a new set and have not tried yet, but from the measurements I took they seem VERY close to dead on (need to check around steering box),

For $200, shorties polished are hard to beat :) I have them at home and teh quality and finish are excellent, compared to my Dynatech and Sanderson.

Also note, if you do not care for the finish and planning to wrap them or coat, Doug sells their headers which hang higher than Dynatech for about $300 (i.e. check Amazon)

remember guys, you get what you pay for and I know I want my headers to last at least a year of hard driving.

We use Dynatech and have been very happy with fitment.

geberhard 10-12-2012 04:22 PM

Vince thanks. I have been on the same boat, and have Dyna's now, and honestly they probably work good for a standard height car, my Musclemaxx just hang too low for my liking.

They were killer for the price, I think you could buy them earlier this year for sub $400 ( I believe friends were paying $300 something for them)?, now they jumped to over $600.

Old pic, but gives an idea on how low they hang when mocking things up on my first gen (Dynatech Musclemaxx and magnaflow after collectors). That is with a non lowered (almost 4x4 lifted, lol) Camaro on 18's. maybe I could lift the engine some, but seems counter intuitive ;)

Everyone should read this.
http://www.camaros.org/engine.shtml
Using the wrong combo can cause many issues including headers hanging lower than they should.
Many including myself did not know until a few years ago that these setups can be mismatched. Please read the section about motor mount heights, etc.
Hope this helps.

I actually did look at them, but I have gone away from them due to the small primary tubes. I actually would prefer a set of shorty or mid length headers over the Long-tube since my car is lowered 2". If the headers that you had were 1 3/4 or 1 7/8, I would have already bought them. That is a great price for stainless headers. Just in my opinion it wouldn't provide much performance over the stock manifold.

If you decide to make some headers that have larger diameter primary tubes give me a pm, since I am in the market right now.

I think after doing some research, I am going to go with either Headman or BRP Mid length headers. They are the same price as the dynatech's but I have heard too many people having problems with the headers hanging too low.

I just bought some Dirty Dingo adjustable engine mounts, so I need to use them for my header selection.

I used a set of 2010 Edelbrock Shorty headers.

They worked with very little mondification to the stock sub.

If you go long tubes then you are going to have a ground clearence problem.

cencalc6 IS THE MAN!!

Speedway Motors had a Garage Sale item for the Dynatech swap headers and I bought them up. Great deal too. Thanks again Cencalc6!! :hail:

I used the BRP long tube headers and hove no issues with ground clearance and they fit very well.

tpichevy 10-01-2017 07:58 PM

. Who has long tubes that don't hang to low for a lowered Camaro

I just installed my American Racing Headers on my second gen with a DSE clip. They fit really tight to the floor...almost too tight, though most of that tightness is my fault in the way I redid my floor/trans tunnel. Easy to correct the floor and of course having better ground clearance is far more important. I think this wouldn't be an issue with a stock floor.

Real nice pieces! Real nice!
