Project G5.R
Edit: This has become more of a built thread then originally intended.
So I figured we add pictures of the car also. http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6f53755e.jpg Hey guys, though I'd post a few pics of my sons project. It's a Gen 5 Camaro SS hes been working on. On the performance side: It's been bored and stroked to a 418, 11.4.1 compression, heads massage by Lingefelter, GT11 Lingenfelter cam, CP pistons, Lunati crank and rods, Meizire Electric water pump, Innovators West 8 rid front drive, Turn One power Steering pump, Every freakin bolt inside and out has been replaced with ARP, Pure power billet oil filter, Katech tensioner, Improved Raving valley baffle, ported intake and throttle body, etc, etc... On the attention to detail: The entire block, both inside and out along with the cylinder heads have been completely grounded smooth. All the accessories front drive brackets and the motor mounts were completed sanded and powder coated in "Anthracite". The oil pan, valley tray and timing chain cover powder coated in texture black. The thermostat housing powder coated onxy, intake in a gun metal gray. The block, heads, alternator, ac compressor, power steering pump all sanded down of any casting and painted BMW "Frozen" gray It's a gun metal gray with flat clear). All the pulleys were given a brush finish. Ring Brother washer for the intake bolts and throttle body, Lokar dip stick, etc, etc ...... There is a lot more but you get the idea. Here's a couple of pics: http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...1295-Edit2.jpg http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/..._1304-Edit.jpg After relocating the factory EVAC solenoid and negative battery cable that mounted to the front of the cylinder head, the 4 factory bolt holes on the were no longer needed, so they were welded in and the face re-milled. http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...7319/028-6.jpg The factory vapor tube was replace with XRP AN lines and fittings. |

Nate is your son!!! Guess same last names should have been a give away  He and I have had a few conversations over on Camaro5 in the past few months. He does beautiful work.....you should be proud. Lol, because of him, I now have a LOOOONGER winter list :censored:
|
Very nice Al, your son has a eye for details that's for sure  He would fit right in at RS or Troys shop
|
That's so pretty that it should be on a stand in my living room! I'm sure my wife would feel the same.
Great work! |
Bitchin work. It's so smooth I thought it was a rendering at first. Amazing.
|
Very Nice Al, tell him it looks fantastic.
|
Dude--that is sweet.
Makes me wonder what the car will look like :unibrow: D |

Do you have any pics before it was assembled after the parts were powder coated?
|
:hail: That is a thing of beauty Al.
Did you guys ever get a definitive answer on which manifold to run, and how torque might be affected? I see you're looking at that fancy OZMO cross ram thingy. :unibrow: Matt |
WOW, Thats a very detailed look. Very nice
|
Sterile clean.
|
Looks great! Are all the accessory mounts from a 5th gen Camaro?
Also, why is there a belt on the w/p if it's electric? |
Awesome. Many electric water pumps run a free spinning idler for belt routing reasons
|
Hey guys thanks for all the words. On my way to SEMA. When we get back, I'll have Nathan post a bunch of pics and info on the front drive.
|
Stare worthy!
|
Put a peace of glass on it and plop it down in the living room. Nice peace!
|
Wow Al.... you can finally use your famous line! And this time I'd absolutely agree!
I'm seriously impressed! |
I've called those guys about that intake. Not Cheap! But nothing cool ever is!

Chris I can't wait to see what you come up with! Everything you do is top notch. You could probably tell there's a lot of your influence on these pics. Maybe Nathan can use some of your new stuff on his build. |
Has anyone found part numbers for these brackets? I'm wondering if factory setup like this is available.
By the way, as everyone has said, it doesnt belong under a hood. Awesome job. HEEP |
A very inspiring piece. Any more shots of the lower 1/2?
|
I found this link to the brackets. I'm guessing that the reservoir for the power steering has been removed and you are using a separate one. Can you get me this information?
Thanks, HEEP |
That is the prettiest LS engine I've ever seen! You and your boy are justifiably proud and I can't wait to see the complete build!

Hey guys Nathan here. As some of you might know, I'm the oldest of Al's three boys. What you might not know is I'm also the best looking, LOL. :D I hope my brothers don't read this. :_paranoid
First off, I just want to say I love this site and understand my first love is muscle cars. I've been a lurker here for a long time and have learned a lot from everyone. The other thing I've notice is all the folks here are TOP SHELF! So when I say thanks for the props, it means a lot to me coming from this community. I really appreciate it!!!! At my Dad's suggestion, I created an account and hope I can contribute to the group. I might start a build thread in the project section if thats OK. I know as a Gen 5 Camaro, it's outside Lateral-g's norm. Being we are all car guys, I think you guys would still appreciate the work I'm putting into it. Plus some of the stuff is relevant as it's an LS platform with Tremec trans. So you could say it would be more of an idea thread than anything else. Maybe I'll call the thread "Braking the Lateral-G mold II", Hope you don't mind Brent, LOL In the meantime, here is a quick background on the project. I've named the car "G5R". The G5 representing 5th gen and the R for racing. The theme is a racy, mechanical, industrial look while elegant at the same time. Part of my influence is Chris's "Blu Balls" build and Steve's "Bad Penny, Jame's "One Lap", Tenacity, etc, etc, etc,....... My ultimate goal is two fold, to build a decent handling car that I can take to the track with the attention to details you'd normally don't see in these cars. Thanks again for the great site and more importantly, the great community of car guys, Nathan Quote:
Before I had any of the pieces powder coated, I removed any casting seams, insignia, etc.... These are the factory motor mounts which look kinda cool for OEM. The one on the right is the before any sanding http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...319/001-14.jpg I tried a couple of different approaches before I settled on powder coating. this was a brush look. http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...7319/010-3.jpg http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...319/010-17.jpg http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...L7319/00lk.jpg Here is a before of the oil cooler. By the way, I'm not going to use this cooler as I'm replacing it with a remote system. I will post pictures later of the parts I'm using. Some of you guys might be able to incorporate them in your projects. http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...19/015-9-1.jpg http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...319/005-18.jpg Here a before of the AC compressor http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...319/003-11.jpg And an after..... In this picture, I used a spray can color called "cast iron gray". It was a pretty color but had to much bronze for the pallet I'm going with. I painted all the accessories in a BMW color called "Frozen gray". It's basically a gunmetal with a flat clear. http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/ee508/AL7319/11.jpg Here are the rest of the accessories in the "cast iron gray" http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...7319/024-5.jpg Quote:

i like the cast iron gray... the brushed finish also looked great but you almost have to continue the theme all the way through the build when you brush finish..
|
Welcome Nathan. You did a great job on the motor. The detail is amazing. When you have time, make a project thread for the car too. I know I'd like to see it.
|
I like the frugal use of the stock components for the accessory drive... Goes to show that people do not need to spend 2300 bucks on a tru-track or system of that matter.
Looks great Nathan! |
Welcome Nathan - Very much appreciate the practicality and tasteful attention to detail you're applying to the project.
|
Nice job, it looks amazing.
|
Very nice work Nathan :hail: Love the detail. And yes please start a build thread!!!!
|
Thanks guys! I appreciate suggesting I do a build thread being it's not a early gen.
Here is some of the work I did on the cylinder heads before sending the to Lingenfelter for a head job.......... somehow that doesn't sound right, LOL You can see the difference between the two. http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...7319/019-7.jpg http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...7319/022-8.jpg If you'll notice, the bolt hole on the right has been flatten while the one on the left still remains to be done. http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...319/003-15.jpg This pictures shows were the holes on the front passenger side cylinder head welded in and the face was re-mild to get a cleaned machine look. http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...7319/004ss.jpg Before I powder coated anything, I made sure to clean of all casting seams and imperfections. Before: http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...319/002-14.jpg After: http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...319/011-17.jpg Done: http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...319/001-18.jpg This is a "Turn One" high performance power steering pump in it's natural state. Before: http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...AL7319/1-4.jpg After: http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...AL7319/4-5.jpg Here is one of the oil filter I'm using. It's from Pure Power. I say one because I'm also running a second XRP filter on one of the oil lines going to the cooler. http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...7319/022-9.jpg http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...7319/023-7.jpg |
