My 67 Eternity Project Camaro
**Disclaimer**
I'm a first timer and i'm doing this out of my garage...so many "redo's" and progress which seems to crawl at times...Actually i've been on this project for some time so i have enough information to share and hopefully inspire myself to keep going... Starting Platform: 67 RS/SS Camaro i bought when i was in College Dependable but looked good from 20 feet http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps969707aa.jpg Tore it down in 2001 to PT mod it...well marriage three boys later the project was "postponed" for some time. Here's the mods...scope changes and timing ultimately caused some further delays. Front Clip: originally have one of the first Art Rassmusen's clips which i believe Wayne Duo managed after Art passed away....Now i have the DSE front assembly (scope creep....if my wife new what i had invested just in front clips...welll it wouldn't be pretty) Rear Suspension: DSE suspension Engine: LSX Block still in work...plans are a 700 fwhp N/A Tranny: T56 Magnum sitting in the corner of the garage waiting Radiator: PRC radiator and support assembly with dual fans Vaporworx tank: shipping in a couple weeks... Wilwood pedal & dual mstr cyl: should arrive next week 9" with 3:70 Wavetrac Diff: sitting in a box Brakes: Baer 14" rotors with 6P calibers all four corners sitting in boxes in my garage Wiring: I'm leaning towards the ISIS system...engine harness ?? ECU: ...still undecided Ok here's some pictures http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...rststep007.jpg after removing some more rust... http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ithnotrunk.jpg the first front clip mock up now obsolete http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...7/DSC01063.jpg going back together http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psffd81fc2.jpg more progress pictures to come.... |
Great project
loving the plans for it! |
This is going to be a great project!!
Are you keeping the same color scheme? |
Quote:
I plan on finishing the bottom and painting it a gun metal grey in the next couple months.... |
Welcome and great project. Let's hear more about that motor plan. :unibrow:
|
ok here's some more pictures regarding some mods....i wanted to put a cross over member between the frame rails and i didn't want to pay for it so designed my own....i also wanted to integrate the transmission X-member and keep in flush with the floor so i can snug the exhaust up tight...
Making the loop.....tied to stay with the contour of the tunnel http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...stattempt8.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...7/IMG_0520.jpg View from the top http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...itandtack2.jpg view from the bottom...http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps71992f19.jpg extremely happy the way it came out....it took two attempts to get what i want.... |
That is great work Tony!
|
thanks Ron,
Im really happy the way it worked out the middle piece that drops out..i placed 2 cap screws on each side of it and resessed them so you can't see any bolts...took me awhile to fab it up but i finally got there.... i gotta really give some credit to a local shop in working with me on the tranny & shifter...had to mock up everything prior to welding it up and these guys "loaned" me a Magnum T56 & a couple shifter plates for trial fits....suppose he felt like he lived close enough that there wasn't alot of risk....besides he said he's driven by my house several times seeing me work on the camaro and was interested in what i was doing..... Needless to say i bought a tranny and shifter from these guys.... Next I'll post some pictures on how i smoothed the firewall...i just finished touching up some spots..... |
ok i'm going for the smooth look but with one exception....i plan on using bulkhead connectors for the engine harness and the ISIS harness therefore recessed the area behind the intake manifold so i can hide as much of the wiring as possible...
cutting out the necessary items to get a flat surface. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...IMG_0485-1.jpg transfered my cardboard cut out to sheetmetal http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...IMG_0477-1.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...7/IMG_0478.jpg Cutout for the tunnel....this is where i had to fit the new tranny and decide how far i had to move the tunnel.. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...IMG_0483-1.jpg with the tunnel adjusted i started piecing the recessed panel in to get an idea how it was going to line up... http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...IMG_0492-1.jpg note from my wife.... http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ictures014.jpg solution...so i put them to work on the Camaro.. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...7/IMG_0511.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps1cf7c46f.jpg I think it would've gone much faster if i had any sort of welding skills but i finally made it through and I like the way it came out... |
lookin good! keep at it, and keep the kids working
|
ok as i mentioned earlier things move relatively slow but i've vowed to make some progress....actually foregoing my annual SEMA outing to focus on the car...
here's some pics... lots of deliveries lately....3rd member with wavetrac and 35 spline axles http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...7/IMG_0501.jpg T56 magnum waiting for the install http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...7/IMG_0498.jpg housing fully assembled..... http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps327535bc.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psaa246deb.jpg Now i had to get the bottom ready for Lizard Skin....used an etching primer first then went to a build primer to assure i had a barrier between metal and Lizard Skin...LS is water base and you had to assure there's no metal contact. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps4ecd3637.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps693d17e4.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psde8336ca.jpg i decided to paint the bottom to cover the LS with a single stage urethane per the recommendations from the rep....i'm going with a gray color similar to the Trans Am Racing look which i'll do inside the hood also... I'll have picture shortly on how the paint came out... also working on door skins in between coats.. Heads arrived this week along with the intake so i'll be heading out to the machine shop to start the engine build but i was shocked how expensive 1 ga of single stage urethane cost....$350 WOW trips like that will delay engine hardware.... shooting for Monday to put the car back on wheels (actually they're just rollers but nevertheless) haven't been on wheels for 13 yrs!!!!!!! just painted the DSE quad links to match the rear end housing so maybe i'll have some good pics of progress next wee. Also i had a good friend come over to help roll the qtr panel lip....came out wonderfull and he did with a body and hammer and metal file...it was like watching someone doing sculpting... i'll have pictures also... |
Nice work, should make for a very cool ride!
|
Looks good. Keep the updates coming.
|
As promised I'm making some progress...here's some pics of the bottom. I got so far ahead of myselft that i didn't take a picture when it was on the rotisserie.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps5354b229.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...pse404fc52.jpg Now i'm working on steering column and pedal assemble. because i've chosen to mount my master cylinder inside the firewall i've had to get a bit creative with space. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps531dc361.jpg I made the pedal assembly adjustable (fwd and aft) approx 2.5" just becuase i felt like i needed to account for some flexibility. |
Ok now i had some fun with rims and tires.....i a friend from work who's working on a 67 who has already purchased some rims and tires and let me fit them on my car. 18" 275 up front and 19" 325 in the back....really liked the look and now i'm sure i have room for 335's
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps8ddb633d.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps7b60a0aa.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps1417830e.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psb4db91b4.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps7694de7c.jpg Now i'm putting it all together for panel fit and preping for primer....this week i'll tackle door skins and primer. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps9ae740e6.jpg one more teaser...engine mock up with heads and intake...looking to send to off to the engine builder next week:G-Dub: http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps5b4ffea4.jpg |
Looking good!
Nice progress ... car is looking awesome! I especially like the painted Lizard Skin look on the bottom, thinking about painting mine after application of Lizard SKin now!! Did you use the entire 2 gallons or did you use more?
Can you post up some of those fender rolling pictures ... that is a good fit on those 325's. Did you do anything other than the tubs and a roll on the lip? Thanks for sharing. Michael |
Nice job its looking good!
|
Who's sheet metal did you use for the front fenders? How did it fit up.
|
Great job so far,you are building a nice ride, cool picture of your boy working on it:thumbsup:
|
Nice ride... looks like your making great progress; Stay after it.
|

I'll post some pictures another "wish i had taken some pictures before taking it off the rotisserie". Nothing special, used DSE tubs and the wheels had a 6" back space. let me get in there and attempt some better pictures for ya.... |
Quote:
I bought from Goodmark, Classic Industries (OER), AMD and can't say one is better than the other... |
Loving the progress you are making.
You went about the sheet metal the right way. one thing at a time. Sure wish I would have been that smart:bang: Love the stance it has with your buddy's wheels. |
Ok, got a better picture of the wheel lip and a did a quick measurement...at the thinnest spot its ~.410" and its "rolled back" betweenthe 10 and 2 positions.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps2b5d0571.jpg Now i'm working the body for primer prep....here's where i've "cheated" and hired someone to show me how. Pete came over with some bullseye picks and hammer and dolly to help straigten out small dings and low spots... one thing i was surprised was how you can fix a spot thats "oil canning" as Pete would call it. my passenger side qtr panel in the sail section towards the roof was indented or "soft" to the touch. He used his pick and hammer to stiffen it and straighten it so we don't need to fill it with filler. i'm kinda just watchin and learning at this point http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps3a47e7b3.jpg Qtr ready to go http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psdb02ab06.jpg Fender ready to go http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...pscf52e66b.jpg Door skins going on...BTW gotta send a big thanks to Michael because spraying the Lizard Skin on prior to putting the skin on was a big time saver. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps25327ff9.jpg Still shooting for the first coat of primer on prior to Thanksgiving. |
Time to post some more updates…progress is slow and steady. Trying not to cut any corners but the anticipation of finishing this someday is killing me….and my wife.
Here’s some of the things I’ve worked on since the last post: • Dry sump tank installation • Engine bay down bars • Brake lines • Brake/Clutch reservoir installation • Console customization • Battery/Power distribution panel install • Fuel Tank and wiring install • Throwing money at the engine build Updates mean nothing without pics so here’s some documentation: My Dry sump “relocation” program has taken an extensive amount of time and I’m still not done. Actually I once gave up and welded the cowl back up and after trying to find another location I cut the cowl back off to take another run at it, so I’m a bit stubborn. Working on the access door has proved to be the most difficult. I found that the an early 2000’s Hyundai fuel door fits in the top fender area nicely therefore I’m using that as my “model” although the hinge doesn’t get me the tight gap lines so I’m going to use a chevy fuel door hinge…..this is a work in progress. I had Peterson build me a tank especially for the cowl area and optimize my volume therefore I’ve gotta figure out how to make it work. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psaaa7c573.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psba20e821.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psa04fa0b0.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps8e49359b.jpg I noticed once on got the car on all fours again that there was still some flex in the front clip when I jack the car so I decided to add some support bars. I’m using the slick bar flanges from Chris at ….. and used some 1”emt to mock up what angles and where to position the mounts. As you can see I made pockets in the front wheel wells to receive the bar flanges. Now just need to get some 13/4” bars bent and I’ll weld them in. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps4752ce16.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps68ff2364.jpg |
Got my front brakes plumbed and routed, used the emergency brake hole in the fire wall and I welded in 1/8” female threaded pipe and welded them into the frame, then to clean up the fittings I made my own “tee”.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps376427dc.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps57939ee2.jpg Also worked on getting the master cylinders installed and plumbed. I’m hoping not the regret this down the road but having everything under the dash makes it real clean but any maintenance or adjustments will make it burdensome. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps531dc361.jpg I recently saw a console from a late model Camaro with some instrumentation mods. I really liked it and set off to mimic it. Lot of work but it looks real good (first time I worked with plastics) but I’m happy with it so far although I’ll go get the entire piece dipped (hydro graphics – carbon fiber visuals). I’ll also relocate the E-Brake to the console. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psc4ffcf44.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psaaa1cd4b.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps2bfa6d51.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps2bfa6d51.jpg Really spending some time on optimizing wiring and routing…..so for some background info I’m using the ISIS system with a trunk mounted battery. Secondly I’m also using the Vaporworx fuel system so to make it compact and clean I decided to build a “rear power distribution” panel sitting between the battery and back seat. I used both sides of the panel to optimize space and clean up the wire runs. I’ll powder coat the metal black along with the tank once I get everything fitted, wires run and mounts established. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psfa061ca7.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps22fda4d9.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps98ea60ca.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps18c0593b.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psd99d631c.jpg Also working the entire wiring diagram for the car and I’ll use the existing ’67 style switches for activation, a lot of detail and thought before starting cutting and terminating wires. I’ll also use military style round bulkhead connectors, 1 for the 12v requirements up front and 1 connector for the Holley ECU. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...pscc052589.jpg No pics on the engine build yet….i would’ve assumed it would’ve been down by now but as I’ve realized everything is underestimated cost and time…Waiting on the Callie Crank apparently they didn’t have any 8 bolt cranks on the shelf. So we’re waiting Crank and Cam everything else is here waiting for assembly. |
Glad to see you still plugging away at this. I like what you're doing. Good luck!
|
Love all the thought, hard work and parts you're putting into this Tony. I do have one request tho...post more often?

Thanks for the encouragement |
Tony, very nice work so far and like Ron says more updates.

Just found this build and it is inspiring!
Bought my 67 in 76. Did a frame off in 79 I started my second (more indepth) frame off rebuild in 1984, same year I got married, had my first child, 3 houses 4 kids later I still have it as a roller, in the shop, married budget was always bad, divorced is worse, but It will get done along with the other projects. Keep posting I love the build, keep us revved up ! You were right, Kids first, Camaro 2nd, good dad ! |
Great looking project! Keep up the good work.
|
thanks guys for the "boost" it helps especially when you've looked at this as long as i have...noticed missed uploading a pic with the console in 1 pc
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psc4d8adf3.jpg I'm going "dip" it here relatively soon along with center piece of the dash... |
Console insert looks good. I am going to try and mock mine up next week and drop it off to get it recovered.
|
still plugging away
All right I’m still plugging away, spent a ton of time working engine stuff over the summer….actually the first year in 10yrs i didn't go to SEMA because i wanted to make some progress, sounds like i missed a good show.
Here are a couple pics showing the fruits of my labor (mostly my cash)… Front cover on with Oil Pump on the side http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps368be1ed.jpg Side view http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps04bfde66.jpg Waiting on push rods and Holley HP kit….then we’ll make some hydrocarbons http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps790c7b70.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps7a7ce07a.jpg Dyno run planned for Tues but likely I’m thinking Wednesday regardless I’ll have it back in my garage for final fit tests for the Thanksgiving weekend. |
Your doing a beautiful job on this, and you have some great ideas. The console looks like it's a factory piece. Nice build.
|
For some reason I never knew you had a build thread - looking great and the engine is going to be cool. SUBSCRIBED !

Should give eveyone a little back story, Scott and i work together so we're sharing lessons learned as we go. Although i've got a 10yr head start on my project he's making a ton more progress and catching up quickly. Actually in post #15 those are Scott's wheels and tires, it was great of him to let me fit them to get a handle on what i can fit for my car. how many people do you know would let you trial fit your brand new wheels and tires...they aren't cheap! |
Tony where did you get the kit from ? The things they do with that stuff is amazing.
