2013 Heidt's Performance Car Challenge Registration now open
Heidts Performance Car Challenge Returns to Autobahn Motorsport May 11-12, 2013
December 12, 2012 (Wauconda, IL) - The Heidts Performance Car Challenge returns this spring to the famous Autobahn Motorsport Country Club in Joliet, Illinois (near Chicago) under the direction of the American Street Car Series staff. This is your chance to have some fun and sharpen your skills with some of the fastest Pro-Touring and Street cars in the industry at one of the best racing facilities in the country. Media coverage for the event includes editors and staff from Super Chevy, Muscle Mustang and Fast Fords and Camaro Performers. The event will also be documented by the folks at Power TV Media who will be creating a video of the racing to be posted on the Heidts’ website shortly after the conclusion of the event. Heidts Automotive Group (Heidts, Kenny Brown Performance, and Alston Racing) will kick off the event at their headquarters in Wauconda, IL on Friday May 10th with a participant BBQ and plant tour. Following the tour, participants will “cruise” back to the host hotel in Joliet, Illinois near the track to prepare for the weekend’s festivities. Saturday racers will have access to the Autobahn Country Club North Track and test their vehicles and driving skills on the 1.8-mile technical circuit. The Autocross track will offer a driving test of man (or woman) against a tight cone-outlined track as participants race against the clock. As a special added test of driving skill, the Speed Stop Squared Competition, a combination of braking test, drag race and Autocross, is sure to entertain. As a special Saturday only event, we will offer an Autocross Driving School, taught by Pro-Touring level drivers, for the first 20 applicants who sign up for Saturday Autocross driving and desire to attend the school. To facilitate these students, special school hours will be dedicated to the school, however plenty of non-school related driving time will be available. In addition to Saturday’s driving events, a Car Show will be staged with participants eligible for multiple class awards as judged by top industry builders including the highly coveted Best of Show award. On Sunday, racers return to Autobahn to continue the fun driving the North Track and participating in the Auto Cross Challenge and Speed Stop Squared Competition. Throughout the weekend, spectators and participants alike will be able to meet with some of the most prominent vendors and manufacturers in the industry along the HPCC manufacturers’ midway. Throughout the weekend there will be technical seminars on improving your cars handling and performance as well as new product information from industry and vendor experts. The Heidts Performance Car Challenge is open to all domestic performance cars regardless of year of manufacture - 1964 Mustang to 2011 Camaro, 1969 AMX to 2010 Challengers - bring them out and have some fun! Participant registration is limited to 70 vehicles to ensure that all racers will have plenty of track time. To register simply go to www.heidtsperformancecarchallenge.com and click on “register.” The Heidts Performance Car Challenge will be staged over two days. Racers can buy either a one day pass for $175 or the complete weekend for $350. You must be preregistered and the event takes place rain or shine, no refunds. All makes and models of cars and trucks are welcome and a muscle car “review” will be included at some point in the show to celebrate the American Muscle machinery in attendance. Car Show participants can attend for $25 per day, which includes an event T-Shirt, and three free parade laps around the North Track. Trophies will be included for various classes of racing and car show. The Heidts Performance Car Challenge is free to all spectators. Over the years that has progressed to the point that in 2012 they did six events across the country and feel they are the leader in track days, focused on letting people get true track time on Road Courses and setting up Autocross venues that give people a chance to improve their driving skills and enjoy their cars. ASCS encourages both seasoned drivers and novices to their events and make sure both groups get their money's worth when they attend our events. Gonna be awfully close to get this done on time. Final buffing on the hood, deck lid and roof and then a mad dash to drop in the glass, attach a few misc. parts (like the front end!) and re-insert the interior. Hope no one will turn their nose up if we're missing the headliner!

--------------------------------------------------------------------- Just got this email today: Hot News from Heidts Performance Car Challenge! Along with a great weekend of car show and racing fun, Heidts and its "friends" have come up with some amazing prizes to be raffled off at the Forgeline reception party (light hor d'oeuvres only) Saturday evening (starting at 6 pm) at the HPCC host hotel Holiday Inn in Joliet, IL. While you may have heard about the incredibility generous Nitto Tires raffle prize of a free set of any tires Nitto sells to the lucky drawing winner, the list of additional prizes has grown immense. As of this date, here are the prizes you could win that evening: Edelbrock - $100 gift certificate for Edelbrock products Johns Industry - one free differential third member Sweet Manufacturing - two free U-joints Street and Performance 50% off any set of header Sanderson headers - $415.00 towards a purchase of any set of headers Tanks Ins -Yogis - $250 off any gas tank purchase Undercover Innovations - Two gift certificates IDIDIT - $369.00 off a steering column purchase Wheel fit - one gift certificate good for $379.99 towards tool purchase Forgeline Wheels - one free Forgeline Jacket Raffle tickets will be given out to racing event participants at the door as they enter the reception starting at 7 p.m. The prizes will be raffled off throughout the evening culminating with the Nitto tire giveaway at the end of the evening. The correct information is that $25 for 15 minutes of kart racing. We apologize for this inaccuracy. We still hope to see you there. |
Just a reminder, the track opens at 7am Saturday and Sunday, don't forget to turn in your Tech Sheet!!
Link to the Tech Sheet http://www.heidtsperformancecarchall...0sheet-pdf.pdf |
Every time I go to print the tech sheet it cuts off the heading. Am I the only one?
|
My tech sheet printed out OK, but as you can see, the Tech Sheet is the LAST of my worries at this point....still so much to do to get ready...

Well, after late nights every night last week, we DID make it to the HPCC. Here I am staging in a sea of camaros. Let's just say that Chevy was WELL represented at HPCC. Would LOVE to own any one of these!
http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6a3be12a.jpg My buddy ( & ad hoc crew chief!) snapped a few photos - I love this one because it looks like I'm in the lead ahead of these camaros. Only LOOKS like I'm in the lead... http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...ps76cd06cc.jpg http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...ps97337859.jpg http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...psd0463d0c.jpg I chuckled when I saw this photo - there's me in my jeans and cotton shirt/sweatshirt - attire that would be sure to SLOW the burning should I mess up and find myself in a fiery crash (my open-faced helmet is in the front seat). In front of me is Stacy Tucker in a full-on fire suit, full faced helmet complete with Hans device. Maybe I'll think about preparing a little more before the next track day... Probably the coolest thing about an event like this (besides seeing bada$$ cars being pushed hard) is how everyone (that I ran across anyway) is approachable and willing to help out or lend advice. Stacy could have blown me off as we waited for our turn on the track, but instead she was more than happy to chat and provide a little advice to someone slightly :D less experienced. http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...ps97604e4b.jpg Not sure who the driver in the black suit was, but she had one SLICK looking RS/SS camaro. Like many cars there, it just oozed speed... http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...psb9274228.jpg This was a sobering reminder to everyone that there are real risks involved with pushing our cars' limits. This brought out the red flag (race stopped) and we all watched quietly as the multiple safety crews (and an ambulance I'm told) sped onto the track and around the bend. Fortunately, I think the only thing hurt was this poor camaro. Reminded me that as a newbie, my skills are definitely not up to the level that my car can support and pushing it with my limited skills will likely result in some potentially serious carnage (to metal or even flesh!). Some serious seat time with an experienced instructor is in order later this year... http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...psc94dafd2.jpg I wish I could say that for me the event was a triumphant success for our first time out, especially given that the car saw its first real street time on FRIDAY night before we drove to the Autobahn at 9PM, but alas, by mid day Saturday we were done thanks to a blown torque converter in the 4L80e. On the bright side, we got the trans out by this afternoon and everything is in order to have it upgraded to handle the next event we throw at it. And despite all the pressure and "friendly" advice, I'm going to resist the temptation to start pricing a conversion to a 5 or 6 speed. We were situated in the pits next to Danny Popp and the white & black corvette he was driving - affectionately called "Snoopy" - and the first thing out of his mouth when he saw us with the car on jack stands messing with the trans was "you know what your problem is - you need a 6 speed!" http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...psec56aba2.jpg http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...ps807d8922.jpg |
Nice report. Your Chevelle looks great!
What happened to that 5th gen? Ouch. |
Nice write up!! With I could have made it out to watch. Nice black Camaro!! Anyone know where it's from?
|
Hit a guardrail. I am not sure what led up to it.
